You are increasing your risk for a leak significantly every time you smoke. I'm a former smoker and quit 8 years ago so no judgment but just want to mention that since a leak is far worse than going without a cigarette. If you did develop one, you would be kicking yourself. It's not worth it. If you are going to start smoking again, at least wait a few months until you are healed.

Headache Medicine After Surgery

You should try Excedrin Tension Headache. It is Excedrin without the aspirin. -
I'm at my 3-week stall. How long does it last?
kelliev2015 replied to Hiraeth's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I asked my surgeon specifically and he said no strength training. Not even legs cause you engage your core whether it seems like it or not. They worry about hernias since your abs have weak spots. Anyway, not saying it is right or wrong... Just be careful! I would hate for you to hurt yourself. Great job getting to the gym right away! -
I stalled for 9 days one week after surgery and have now lost a pound a day for the past 4 days. Hang in there. It'll happen. Your body is adjusting to your new normal.

@@CLN.BK - strength training 3 weeks after surgery? My surgeon told me 6 weeks. I'd love to be able to do it now. Assuming you haven't experienced any issues? -

I stalled one week after surgery for 9 days and just started losing again. I've lost 4 pounds in the past 4 days. So I'm down 13 since 8/8 which comes out to about 4.5 pounds a week. I've also lost 2 inches from my waist, hips, bust, etc. I'd give it a week to 10 days and you'll probably start losing again. -
I was the same way. I still kind of am. I'm 3 weeks post op and it's almost like I'm waiting for something to go wrong although I feel great. I haven't had a second of nausea, have been able to tolerate everything I've eaten and overall just feel great. People would ask me before the surgery what I was worried about and I would say the same things you mentioned above. You've just got to trust the process and trust your body. My body has always done what it was supposed to. It's healed as it should and responded to medications as it should. There is a risk with any surgery but they are so rare and usually only happen to people with pre-existing medical conditions. That's what I have to keep telling myself anyway. I feel like elective surgeries are always scary but being afraid of something that rarely happens isn't a reason to not do it. Again, things I have to keep telling myself. [emoji6] We are young (also 34) and healthy and there is no reason to think we'll be one of the unlucky ones. My surgeon has done thousands (not sure exactly how many) of surgeries and has never had a complication. I bet yours hasn't either. If you look on this forum and compare how many people say it's the best thing theyve ever done to how many people regret it, it's like a thousand to one. I would say that the odds are in your favor.

I was wondering the same thing. I'm only 3 weeks post op but have found it very hard to eat slow. I think the main reason is because I haven't felt any discomfort when eating so it's hard to remember to do so. I'm certainly not struggling to slow down because I'm hungry - mostly just impatient. It gets better! I'm 3 weeks post op and the first few days are miserable but it gets better so quick! Hang in there!

I hate to say it but I agree on gaining the 7 pounds. Insurance companies make it so difficult that if you didn't qualify based on your comorbidities (it's a limited list), they could deny you even if you got to a 40 BMI and applied again. I just wouldn't risk it. Of course, it sounds ridiculous to do that but sadly, that is what insurance companies are forcing people to do by being so outrageous with their requirements.

How long before you could go back to work? (desk job/non physical)

I took two weeks off but went back after one. I was sick of sitting at home and I love my job. [emoji3] -
Feeling a weird stretchy pain on my left side.
kelliev2015 replied to Hiraeth's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I got sleeved on 8/8 and my large incision is still sore so I'd say it's normal to be sore after 2 days. -

kelliev2015 replied to Hiraeth's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm two weeks post op and am drinking a lot at once as well. Liquids go right through you and will not stretch your sleeve. Call your surgeon if the pain doesn't go away in a few days. -
My nutritionist didn't recommend those. She said there was no evidence that they actually worked. Not sure if that is true or not.

Feeling like I should see my doctor.

Diarrhea for over a week is a little concerning. One stool softener shouldn't do that. I would go to the ER if it doesn't stop by Wednesday. -

I had surgery on 8/8 and haven't had anything like you are describing at any point. It doesn't sound normal to me. How long has it been going on? -

When was your surgery? -
I'm wondering when most people really started to see weight loss? I was sleeved on 8/8 and started at 191. As of 8/15, I was at 182 and haven't lost anything since. I want to stress that I'm not concerned about it and don't think I'm in a "stall". I am curious however when people really started seeing consistent weight loss. Was it after you started back on solid foods? I am pretty sure that once my body figures out what's going on, it'll let go of the extra fat. In the meantime, slow and steady wins the race, right? Sjfink, this is awesome. This is EXACTLY when I was looking for. So far, I'm right on track!

@@Jane1979 - if you are considering the Band, I would check the band to sleeve revision forums on this site. It has a lot of good info from people who had the band and ended up taking it out. I originally went in for the band but my surgeon practically refused to do it and said he even wrote a letter to the FDA about why it should be taken off the market. I'm not saying that people aren't successful with it but just do your research. Some people like the idea of it not being permanent but a lot of people end up with permanent issues from it.

Same here. I was sleeved on 8/8 and the scale hasn't moved since 8/15. I honestly don't care though. I know it's going to come off eventually and I figure the slower I lose, the better chance I'll have of not having loose skin. [emoji3]

I'm not sure if I'm im in a stall.
kelliev2015 replied to RaulG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was also sleeved on 8/8. My day of surgery weight was 191. By 8/15, I was down to 182 and the scale hasn't moved since. I am guessing it is normal to slow down while your body adjusts to your new diet. I'm hoping it'll start moving again once I advance to soft foods. -
Ok. I'm going to stop apologizing for all of the questions cause clearly, they just keep coming. I was sleeved on 8/8 and am still not able to eat yogurt very easily. I'm on liquids but can also do Jello, yogurt and sugar free pudding. I've done fine with everything else but still struggling with the yogurt. Did anyone else have this problem? Maybe I'm just trying too soon?

How long did your incisions hurt for? I'm 10 days post op and I have one incision that is still painful. I'm assuming it's the one they took my stomach out of even though it's not that much bigger than the rest. It looks ok so I'm not worried about it. Mostly curious when it might stop hurting.
