    Black and White Thinking.

You'll never be 100% perfect, 100% of the time. If you think that, you are setting yourself up to fail. Everyone slips up, everyone has bad days. Its what you do with the rest of the time that matters.

When did you feel "normal" again?

I've been wondering the same thing! I'm 5 weeks out and pretty always feel those same things. Glad it's not just me and that it goes away.

    Pre op liquid diet

My liquid diet was just the day before surgery. I was on 20 grams of carbs or less for two weeks beforehand.

    Hair loss

I also have super thick hair so I feel like if I lose half of it, I'll still have more than most people. I'm super scared about it too as my hair is also one of the only features of mine that I am proud of. I think we'll be ok. Worse case, we have less hair for a few months but we'll have a lot less fat too!

    Questions

My dad had RNY surgery 4 years ago and while I've always been a supporter of WLS, I never thought it was for me. I figured I could do it on my own, just like everyone else here probably thought at some point. I was always able to lose weight dieting but was never able to keep it off. About a year ago is when I realized that I needed a little extra help to be able to succeed. I did my research and decided on the sleeve and had it 8 months later. I'm only 5 weeks post op but so far, don't regret it at all. I'm down 19 pounds in those 5 weeks and have lost a total of 18 inches. I could have never done that with a regular diet. I'm ok with the small meals but I do wish that I was able to tell when I was full a little easier. I'm still a newbie so I'm sure it'll come but at this point, I'm sure I'm still not eating enough. Eating and drinking is the one thing I miss. I really enjoyed that and it's taking a while to get used to. If that's the worst thing that happens to me though... I'll live.

    I'm dying inside!

It'll get better. You'll be able to eat whatever you want again some day. 30 pounds in 7 weeks is amazing. You should be so happy with that. Have you thought of going to a therapist and talking to them about how you are feeling? Regret is an awful thing so maybe someone could help you through it.
  8. This is a great post. Thanks for sharing. The way I see it is, you can hide excess skin with clothes way easier than you can hide fat! [emoji3]

    Staple Line Pian

I'm 5 weeks post op and still haven't tried bread so I can't say for sure but I do know that our stomachs don't have pain receptors so it probably isn't a staple line pain as much as it is just having something stuck. I would do what others suggested and if you are still having pain, call your surgeon. You are still at risk for leaks 2.5 weeks out so definitely not something you want to take a risk on by waiting.

    Attention Deficit and VSG

People are jerks. Sorry to hear it.

    Stalling already?

I'm 5 weeks post op and I did the exact same thing! I lost 9 pounds in a week and then stalled for 9 days. After that, I started losing a pound a day. Be patient. Your body is adjusting to your new way of life and needs to realize it's not starving before letting go of the extra fat. [emoji3]

    Attention Deficit and VSG

I was sleeved on 8/8 and also have ADHD. I've noticed that my Adderall was pretty much the only thing that made me feel normal after surgery. I'm on 10mg of instant release. Definitely give that a shot as the extended might not be absorbing correctly.

    Birth Control After Sleeve

Yeah. My IUD fell out but apparently that isn't common so hopefully you have a good experience. I've heard great things about it!
  14. You should try and up your protein since that's more important than calories. How many grams of protein are you getting a day?

Is it normal to get cold feet?

For me, it didn't get real until my surgery was scheduled and I got my actual date. I remember asking my fiancé if he'd be disappointed if I decided not to have the surgery (which of course the answer was no). I considered backing out of it for about a second until I remembered all the times that I've lost weight on my own, only to gain it back (plus more) over and over again. I'm now 4 weeks post op and I've never regretting it. I'm hopeful about the future and it feels good to know that I have this tool to help me succeed.

    Decision

I was tired of being uncomfortable in my own skin. I'm only a month post op but can't wait to be comfortable in a bathing suit, wearing a pair of shorts or something other than black all the time. I want to be able to walk down the aisle of an airplane without having to turn sideways. I want to be able to comfortably paint my own toenails or be able to bend over while still being able to breathe. There are so many things that contributed to my decision but mostly, I just want to be able to do normal things easily. I've done every diet imaginable and they were never sustainable. I needed the extra help to contribute to my success.

    1st NUT appt, over!

Yep. My BMI was 35.4 when I started and I had 6 months of medically supervised weight loss. I couldn't lose more than a pound or two for 6 months and I could gain either. I ended up at 35.1 when they submitted to insurance. You just need to work with your nutritionist to figure out how many calories a day you need to maintain. Be sure and track all of your food. Worst case, if you lose too much, wear ankle weights to your last appointment. [emoji6]

    Stretching stomach in the beginning

I'm about a month post op and the only meat I've tried is deli sliced lunch meat (turkey) which has been fine. I'm restricted to soft foods for another 2 weeks and agree that it seems early for no restrictions. Be careful and don't eat what you can't handle. If it is painful, you probably aren't ready.

    Pain three days out

It is normal. My surgeon told me that they use a numbing agent that typically wears off after 3 days. Give it a week and I'm sure you'll feel so much better.

How long do we have to worry about leaks?

I just heard back from my doctor who said that leaks generally happen within 2 weeks and they stop worrying about them completely at about the one month mark. Just FYI in case helpful for anyone.
  21. Hi all, I'm 3.5 weeks post op and for some reason, I can't stop worrying about getting a leak. Does anyone know when we are "out of the woods" with those things? I've had a great recovery so far and everything is going fine. I've followed my doctors orders to a tee but for some reason, I'm still scared to death that I'm going to get a leak. Can someone please just tell me I'm being ridiculous?

How long do we have to worry about leaks?

I'm not doing anything crazy. I'm almost too scared to eat soft food even though I've been cleared! Haha. I did email them and will see what they say. I hate asking these kinds of questions cause I feel like a crazy person. I'm young and healthy and have literally no reason to worry about these things but somehow, knowing that is still not enough.

    gas pain

Nothing worked for me. It just had to run its course. It'll get better in a day or two.
  24. ...why we can take all of our regular medications but have to have chewable multivitamins for the first 3 months? It seems like it isn't an issues with swallowing pills so just curious if anyone knows the reason? Maybe they absorb differently?

    Swollen Esophagus?

It happened to me too. I'm 3 weeks post op and it still happens some times. I think it just takes a while for the swelling to go down.
