1.5 weeks post op, feeling down
kelliev2015 replied to happycamper06's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Chicken broth really helped me during that phase. I needed something savory desperately bad. Good luck. It'll get better. -
I thought I had more time! (Kinda long)
kelliev2015 replied to Candygyrl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I kind of know what you mean. I'm 163 now and feel like my clothes fit different from when I was 150 or so. Are you working out? Doing squats and lunges will help keep your booty only it'll be nice and firm. [emoji3] -
My doctor said it was common for the pain to be worse after day 3 than day 1. The reason being that they use a numbing agent and once it wears off, it can hurt. Take the pain killers as long as you need to. That's what they are there for. There is no shame in using them a few days longer than other people may have. You'll feel a million times better this time next week. [emoji3]

Do any of you vets completely ignore this rule?
kelliev2015 replied to tenseintexas's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
There are all kinds of reasons not to drink diet soda and that goes for everyone, not just people who were sleeved. https://authoritynutrition.com/why-is-diet-soda-bad-for-you/ -
I've had it before and it was from acid reflux. Not sure if it's the same thing though.

What has been the hardest part of your journey thus far?
kelliev2015 replied to xoxococojay's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Immediately after surgery it was the gas pains. They were horrific for me and had me literally screaming in pain at the hospital which is crazy cause I never verbalize pain like that. A few days after, I had a really hard time getting my liquids and protein and was getting about half of the recommended amount. I did enough to not get dehydrated though. At 10 weeks out, I still struggle to get my 80 grams of protein. My weight loss has slowed to a crawl which has been difficult to deal with. I'm starting to step up my workouts and really focus on getting my protein in. Overall, I've had a great experience. I've been able to tolerate everything, have never been nauseous and have healed well. [emoji3] -
I'm 10 weeks out and have been eating salads since about week 6 or 7. No issues. I just eat the protein out of it first and then don't have a lot of room for the rest but can still eat about half of a small salad.

Does anyone find that they can tolerate something one day but not as well the next? For example, I am 2 months post op and ate an apple the other day, for the first time. Everything was fine. I ate the entire thing with no discomfort. The next day, I had a few of my fiance's apple slices and every bit was uncomfortable once it hit my stomach. Is it normal for that to happen and if so, does anyone know why? As a side note - I've tolerated everything since surgery and have never been nauseous or thrown up.

Sleeve scheduled for 10/19- would you do it again?
kelliev2015 replied to jaylee9146's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My BMI was 35.4 at the time of surgery. I'm 10 weeks post op and don't regret it at all. The first few days were harder than I expected so keep realistic expectations since everyone is different. I thought mine would be a cake walk which set me up for quite a struggle those first few days. -
Yeah. I've eaten popcorn once since surgery which was 10 weeks ago. I had no issues but it didn't help the scale move any faster! I air pop mine and use spray butter to avoid the extra calories although I know there are chemicals in that stuff. I figure everything in moderation. [emoji3]

If you (or your work) can afford it, do first class. There really isn't any other way to make it comfortable, unfortunately. Hang in there. You'll be on the other side before you know it.

I am at a state of frustration and confusion.....
kelliev2015 replied to Color83's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
How fast did you think it would be? You are 3 days post op! [emoji3] I know what you mean though. Just be patient. The time will fly and you'll feel better every day. Your body has just been through a major surgery and needs time to heal. Just cause you can't see the scars/swelling, doesn't mean it isn't there. -
Does your hair ever come back to normal?
kelliev2015 replied to GOM123's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'd rather be able then fat. At least if you lose your hair, you can get some cute wigs! I am/was worried about it too but there is nothing you can do to avoid it. If it happens, it happens. I'm only two months post op and haven't experienced it yet but I've heard it does grow back. Regardless, the benefits outweighed the risks for me. No one ever died from thin hair. [emoji3] -
I would try and skip the chicken and tuna for a few days and see if that helps. That is a lot to eat a few days post op and I noticed when I ate too much in the first few weeks,. I would sweat profusely.

You really aren't going to be able to help around the house if you are in the hospital or dead. Sorry to be blunt but a few weeks of not being able to help around the house doesn't seem like a deal breaker, in the grand scheme of things.

Is one week post-op (but 3 weeks total out including pre-op) eligible for the dreaded 3-week stall?
kelliev2015 replied to Heather I's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Mine did the exact same thing. Lost 9 the first week and then nothing for 10 days. Just be patient. It'll come. -
When do you feel no pain
kelliev2015 replied to blackbenzjeep@yahoo.com's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Do you mean internally (stomach) or externally (incisions)? For me, my incision pain was completely gone at 3 weeks. Internally, I still feel pain at almost 9 weeks out. It definitely happens less but it's still there if I think too fast or eat certain things. I know it's hard but be patient. It'll get better soon! -
Did anyone get a prescription for Emend to take pre op for nausea?
kelliev2015 replied to ella37's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I took it but only cause my insurance paid for it 100%. I didn't have any nausea but have no idea if it was from the pill or not. I've never been nauseous or thrown up 8 weeks out. -
Not scared, nervous or excited
kelliev2015 replied to QueenOfTheTamazons's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was nervous and excited until the day of surgery and then I was just ready to get it over with. Sounds like you are practical and have faith in your surgical team. -
I felt the same as you right after surgery. I'm only 8 weeks post op and am leaps and bounds better than I was right away. You'll get there. I promise. I know it doesn't seem like it now but the time will fly. I feel like I just had surgery yesterday!
-
I'm 8 weeks out and have not thrown up once and have never been nauseous. You shouldn't be worried that it hasn't happened to you. It isn't necessarily normal for those things to happen. Consider yourself lucky and don't over think it! [emoji3]

I haven't tried it but I have two friends who use it and have been very successful. They both lost 70ish pounds using it (without WLS) and have kept it off for at least a year so far.
-
I'm on depo and have been for years. No issues pre op or post op. It is also good cause there is no estrogen so it doesn't contribute to blood clots which you are already prone to after surgery.

Chewing Gum Sugar Free of course
kelliev2015 replied to Crystal Ann Keister's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgeon told me it was fine but be super careful not to swallow it as it could cause serious issues. -
Does it happen with everything you eat?
