You guys are too much sometimes Good neighbors can be hard to come by. Luckily the ones on the other side are super sweet. My dad was Air Force and we spent a few years in Oklahoma. Definitely very nice people there!

@@KristenLe lol I could but a reaction is what she wants. I come inside, hubby and I laugh it off, and I go about my day. It's definitely not mature, and it's not an example I would want to set for my children, but she's hopefully leaving soon. She doesn't know the progress I've made. And it really just hits home with me how yes obesity is a huge problem, but making or trying to make people feel bad about themselves won't do any good.

    Is my bypass working?

Not necessarily. Stick to the plan your surgeon gave you. Measure your foods and only eat/ drink what that amount is supposed to be. It's easy to get bored with liquids but it's imperative to give your body time to heal. Chicken at not even two weeks out isn't the best idea. Neither is continually eating. My personal plan limits meals to 30 minutes. If it's not finished within that time frame it gets saved for later.

    Birth Control

I was taking the pill literally the morning of surgery. Post op I've switched to a Depo shot once every 3 months.

    I'm in love!

Love this stuff! It's weird Walmart doesn't carry it but my local grocery chain does.

    Walking

For exerting yourself, yes that's a good heart rate. You could probably find an actual formula from the American heart association about what your heart rate should be based on age and weight if you want to get really specific. http://www.heart.org/HEARTORG/HealthyLiving/PhysicalActivity/FitnessBasics/Target-Heart-Rates_UCM_434341_Article.jsp#mainContent

    Negative vibes go away

There's a lot of support to be found on these forums. It really depends on what you consider support though. For me, I consider encouraging others to stick to their doctor recommended plans support. Some people view support as tell me what I'm doing will be fine. Personally, I appreciate the people that will hold me accountable and offer healthy suggestions. Doing and eating the way I want is what caused me to need surgery in the first place.

    I'm stuck and frustrated

Would just like to say, not everyone is on protein shakes after surgery. My surgeons office does not want us drinking calories at all. Granted our protein goals are on the lower end of the spectrum (60g), but to say that everyone will need shakes after surgery is not true. I can't justify spending $120 on a month's worth of breakfast either but that's a different issue.

    Food

Doing what we're comfortable with is probably in part how most of us ended up here. What she needs to do is follow her doctors post op instructions, or at least contact them before just moving to solid food so soon post op. Telling someone they'll be fine in time is NOT necessarily true and could be incredibly dangerous.

    Food

Wow. 9 days post op eating chicken WHILE drinking water and by saying that's harmful everyone is a negative nancy? No. That's not how it works. What she did is dangerous. At 9 days the body is still healing from MAJOR surgery. There is the potential for very serious, life threatening complications by eating off plan. And again, drinking while eating is one of those rules that is pretty much the same across the board. Giving someone facts, no matter how unpleasant or unwelcome, is not shaming or talking [emoji90].

Pre/Post Surgical Plans Are Not Required

Ya know, I'm only 7 months out. And a coworker brought in kfc right as I was getting ready to leave for the night. Holy buckets it smelled good. So I went home and made myself some garlic shrimp and quinoa. Because the "mean bullies" on these forums who don't just pander to people were in my head. Thanks for keeping me on track meanies!

    Food

Drinking with meals is also a no no. Just because you think something went down fine, doesn't mean you actually didn't cause internal harm. You're still healing! Doctors didn't get together and come up with the post op diet to make people suffer. You NEED to follow the directions your doctor has given you!
  13. You won't find people here just telling you what you want to hear. And that's a good thing! For some of us, enabling has played a huge part in how we ended up needing surgery! Knowing that you're thin skinned and realizing that maybe you just wanted to hear certain things are really good things to recognize in yourself. Everyone here genuinely wants to see people be successful. Sometimes it's hard to step back and realize that everyone has a different communication style. I've almost never seen anything posted that was purely out of malice though. Stay, ask questions, look around at other forums [emoji4]

    After Surgery Helper

It should! My hubby was with me the day of surgery and the day after and then went back to work. I don't have kids, just two little dogs, but the three of us managed just fine [emoji4]
  15. No one was ganging up or bullying you. People gave informative answers. My experience is with bypass and not sleeve, but both tools are just that. Tools. They don't fix food addiction. That comes with either starting or continuing therapy. This site has wonderful people that will give you great advice! Sometimes it's not always what we want to hear.

    After Surgery Helper

It differs for every person. If you're currently able to get around independently then you probably should be fine after surgery. You should be up and walking within a few hours of being admitted to your room post op. You'll just likely be moving a little slower! Walking frequently helps, and pain meds are your friend if you need them!

Post op regrets topics - not popular

In regards to the C. Diff, if family hasn't caught it yet, hand washing is key. Those little germs are incredibly pesky and ONLY get killed from bleach wipes or soap/water. It's one of the most common hospital infections since its related to antibiotic use.

    I Need Help

My surgeon and his team won't even talk about goals until the 6 month follow up appointment. That's where they told me that WLS patients typically lose between 50-70% of their excess weight and they calculate your goal weight based on your starting weight and the percentages. I like having two different numbers to reference [emoji847]

Anemia despite high dosages of iron

Not speaking as a vet or newbie, just as a nursing student. It has been pounded into my brain throughout school that iron is best absorbed with vitamin C. Don't know if it would make a difference in your levels but if you can stomach OJ it might be worth trying.

    First Time Out Drinking

It takes time to heal from a MAJOR surgery. Alcohol does not aid in the healing process. Besides the possible surgical complications, there's also a risk for transfer addiction. Everything in moderation sure, but seems to me like if we were all experts at moderating ourselves we wouldn't be here in the first place [emoji848]. I'd much rather see the vets, supposedly mean and sarcastic, stick around than have to coddle people who just want to be enabled.

    Pokemon Go!

I know absolutely nothing about Pokemon. But the app makes it really easy. Walk along, some creature thing pops up, throw a ball at it, move on [emoji4]

    Triple Zero Drinkables

Thank you!!! I can't handle the consistency of any Greek yogurts yet so pretty excited to try this!
