Anyone from Pittsburgh?
Ronjohn replied to claddagh66's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are both you doing a liquid preop diet? I was so thankful I didn't do that. I did an extreme low fat and low carb. Wasn't great food, but it was food. -

I'm doing pretty good. First few days were kind of rough, but you expect that. Getting all my protein and water in can be tough at times. I started setting timers on my cell phone to remind me. I wasn't prepared for how little I could eat. Early on I purchased little 2 ounce cups at the grocery store, so I could measure everything out. It takes some adjustment, but I have no regrets. I started my preop diet on 12/13 and have lost 50 pounds since then. -
Almost a year out and only lost 64lbs

1,000 calories a day seems to much. My NUT set up MyFitnessPal with the following. Protein-60 plus Carbs-Max 60 Fat-Max 20 Calories-700 -

You will have few very small scars where they put the laparoscopic instruments in. They are pretty small though. I have larger scars from my childhood. :/ My surgeon was Dr. Christopher Hart with Atlanta Bariatrics. -

I am post op. Surgery date was 12/23. The season certainly had its ups and down. Line backer ply picked this year as everybody stayed healthy. The secondary needs some help. I think Pouncy has missed as much as he's has played. I never did get my "last dinner". They crammed me in at the end of the year, so the day I found out I had to start my diet. -

I was at Emory John's Creek and really had no issues. In at noon, and gone by dinner time. This was definitely not their first rodeo shall we say. Things went really quickly when I checked in, which worked out nice as I didn't have much time to stress. First few days are a little rough, but things get better quickly. I am a month post op and short of a few scares and the fact that I can eat more than a handful of food things are going great. -
Popeye's is nothing but trouble for me... Their fried chicken was one of my top five trouble foods. I could eat the black Beans and rice by the bucket load...

You might want to verify that 270 chews is a 9 months supply. When I was on the chews I was eating three of them a day. I actually switch away from the chews and take calcium carbonate pills from costco. I believe I get 500 pills for $10. I wanted to switch as I was tired of wasting my calories in chews. I wanted to use those calories to eat food and get more Protein in.

I used to be a Pixburgher, but move south for warmer weather... Rough loss for dem Stillers last week. If Cope was still around there would have been a few Doule Yoi's! Make sure you get your Primanti's in before your surgery date. It will be a few months after survey before you can eat one of those, or should I say part of one... Good luck with your surgery! -
ugh, these protein shakes make me gag

I like this idea. Do you mix this up in a mixer? -
Low carb Purees or Thick liquids

Do you mix something with it? I'm not really a big fan of cottage cheese, so I am looking for ideas on how to eat it. Also do you eat the skim variety? -

I eat a lot of regular chili and white chicken chili. I just put it in a food process for a couple secs to break it down some and then freeze them in single serve sizes. -

I drink the Syntrax Peanut Butter cookie and really like it. It is by far the best tasting one I have had so far. They also make a Mint chocolate Chip and Cookies and Cream that are pretty good to if that's your cup of tea. -
The above idea worked really well for the first 2-3 weeks post op. It also help provide a visual aid going forward on how much food I should be eating, which is very little.

You will here answers and opinions all over the board on this one... My NUT and surgeon said that I can have non carbonated alcohol (wine and liquor basically) at 6 weeks out. They also advised not to drink, as it is dead calories that will more than likely stall your weight loss.

Did you do all of the other crap UHC wanted like the 6 months of NUT visits? I have UHC and my file was submitted 12/3 and I was approved on 12/9 (that was over the weekend).

I am 4 weeks post op today and one of those little sugar free puddings is too much. I can't eat an entire yogurt either. I did eat an entire pudding one time and felt like crap afterwards, so I didn't do that again. When I try something new I always go slow and steady and watch my portion. My eyes are always bigger than my stomach...

The requirements definitely seem all over the place from surgeon to surgeon... You would think that their would be some standardization on it within the medical community at some point.

What such we be looking for in our MULTI VITAMIN
Ronjohn replied to Scottyd1264's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wish I help could you, but I just send me NUT an email with what I want and she approves/disapproves. I am getting ready to start taking the costco Daily Multi, which she said was acceptable. I think the problem with the gummies is that you don't get Iron in them. -
Wow, a year out? That seems a little excessive. I guess my surgeon is pretty progressive, as I was having over cooked broccoli two weeks out with no issues. He told me at my two week post op visit that he try's to get patient eating "food" sooner, so your stomach muscles can get back into shape. He said that staying Protein shakes for extend periods prevents for the stomach muscles from getting back in shape, so you can start eating "real" food again.

Family likes to eat out
Ronjohn replied to readyforachange84's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I guess I should have said I wasn't supposed to drink before I eat. I'm supposed to wait 15 minutes after drinking before I eat per my guidelines. I honestly have never tried to do it, as I was told not to, so I'm not sure if I would have an issue. In the instance above I just boxed it up and took it home. -

This would be a problem since I can't drink before I eat. One of the first times I went out to dinner I ordered a Water and went to town on it thinking I was getting ahead for the day. food came out and I was like rut ro. My pouch was full of water. Live and learn... -
Any 12/21/15 sleevers: How are you doing?
Ronjohn replied to mabarbee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wowsers... Just when you think you are somewhat in the clear. I know every time I feel a pain anywhere in my body I freak. I had calf pain for a couple days and thought for sure I had a clot. Little gas pain an I know that my stomach sutures have broke. My wife has to walk me off the cliff like once a week lately... Despite my stupidity when it comes to medical things; was the infection caused by the surgery? If so, was it the surgeon's fault or just bad luck. You have a really good surgeon, so I am guessing just bad luck. Keep us informed on your progress, and I hope you feel better. -
It's gone now thankfully... I had it a few months before surgery.

I have had gout in my big toe and my ankle. The one on my ankle was terrible. I think it was more painful than my sleeve surgery. I have never heard of anybody getting it on their middle toe. Take care and let us know how it goes.
