To Protein Drink or Not To Protein Drink
Ronjohn replied to anwen_ut's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I bought some Quest bars a couple months ago and they have gone down hill. I used to eat them a few years back and they aren't nearly as good. -

@bikrchk-Those Protein balls sound pretty yummy. Do you have a recipe? They are probably to high in calories for me currently, but won't be in a few months. -

I am with Jamie here. I was watching the clock waiting for the coffee timer to clear. I so needed my coffee... That is pretty much the only calories I drink everyday outside of my Protein shake. Mine is 22.5 calories since I use 1.5 tbsp. -
To Protein Drink or Not To Protein Drink

I drink coffee, but I use Splenda plus a sugar free cream. Maybe 20 calories for me. Is there any research showing that losing it fast causes more lose skin. Every person is different, so I'm not sure how they could measure that. I had surgery on 12/23 and I am down like 50 pounds. No lose skin yet... Might be when I hit goal. Your surgery weight is less than my goal weight. LOL -

About three weeks after me. You eat a lot more calories than I do. I would struggle to eat 1200 calories with my pouch size. -

20 grams of fat? That seems pretty crazy. I have a general rule of making sure everything I eat has more grams of protein than grams of fat, but that's about it. What reason we're you given for keeping fat that low? I honestly never asked as it hasn't really been an issue. I will ask the next time I go the NUT. It really hasn't been a issue during the first two months. Now that I can eat more variety it is a little harder. I've mostly eaten skinless chicken breast, which have practically no fat. Lately I haven't been sticking to that 20 gram number spot on. I focus on eating lean protein and tend to stay pretty close. I am only eating 700 calories a day, so eating lean protein is pretty important. If I eat something high in fat I will go over 700 calories pretty quickly. I typically eat a fat free Greek yogurt and use Fairlife milk for my shake. Between the shake, milk and yogurt I am at 54 grams of protein with hardly any fat. -

I have been wondering about this also. I'm supposed to get 60 grams of protein while staying under 20 grams of fat. To keep the fat consumption that low is tough without shakes. If I ate chicken every meal I might be ok. -
I made this today and it was pretty good. I made a couple of them with cheddar cheese (I ran out of cottage cheese) and stuck them under the broiler for a couple minutes and those turned out pretty good also.

How to find a counselor
Ronjohn replied to CowgirlJane's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have gone to a few different counselors over the years, and have found the be quite useless. I'm not what I was expecting to be quite honest, but whatever it was I didn't find it. I have actually contemplated seeing a counselor lately to deal with my food issues (addictions in general). With the sleeve, I am losing weight and feel confident that I will continue. I have lost weight multiple times before only to find it all again. I would really like to figure out how I overcome this addiction and learn to control it and not let i control me. Do they have VSG food counselors? -
I had some with ground up pepper and some cherry tomatoes last night and it was OK. Not bad, but at least it was a change of pace. I bought some mushrooms list night to try out that recipe. That recipe looks YUM...

I will have to find that and check it out.

The first thing I ate on the Puree stage was also an egg and it was divine... LOL I am 6 weeks out and eating/drinking together is almost second nature now. i don't even think about it usually...

Maybe you can try a Bloody Mary. It has tomato juice, so there is slightly something redeeming about them. I had two yesterday at a super bowl party with no issues, or then a buzz that comes on a little bit quicker. The tomato juice has tons of salt, so I wanted get on the scale the next day. I gained two pounds over night and only ate/drank like 1,200 calories for the day. Not to people in weight loss phase. Alcohol does have calories, so watch you drinking. 400 of the 1,200 calories I had yesterday were drank, and I'm not talking about Protein shakes. Not a good idea to be doing frequently...

Do WLS patients ultimately go back to eating anything?
Ronjohn replied to reachbree's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They should pin this somewhere. -
Just a reference... My NUT had me at 700 and says I need to hit that number if I am doing cardio that day. Until last week it was a struggle to get in 700 good calories. I am 6 weeks post op.

I was actually wondering this the other day. Considering I cook for a large family, I knew there was no was I was going to be able to measure out before cooking, since I cook in bulk. After cooking it will have to be for me. If you use MFP I believe it gives you the option. Speaking of weighing... My food scale showed up toady...

You can mix them with milk also. I actually use Fairlife, as it has more protein than regular milk. Obviously you wanted do that with the fruit ones. -
I actually do this and then stir in some sugar free jelly. Be careful with the crackers, as they will stall you out quickly. I use low carb wheat bread things and only eat like 4 of them.

LMAO at that one...

4 days post op struggling with vitamin drink
Ronjohn replied to Joshua Torode's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One the fourth day I had a real protein shakes and the pain/gas in my stomach subsided tremendously. It was like my stomach wanted something of substance. I also stopped taking pain meds that day, which might have helped. -
I agree with Jamie here... Their dressings were not good at all. Somebody will have to report on this peanut butter. Until then, I will have to stick with my PB2 to get my peanut butter fix...
