    One week later

Im five days post op now, and it was a huge turning point. I feel so much better! The moodiness has gone, my energy is up, and the only pain left is at the port site. I am on full liquids and have not been hungry in between meal times. Its amazing! However I did eat a little too much at dinner tonight. Pureed some soupy scalloped potatoes and they were so good I know I ate more than my one cup limit. My tummy got full and round and that made my port incision hurt a little more. I am going to measure my food from now on while on my post op diet so I dont do that again. Things are def on the up and up though! I can sleep on either side at night or my back. No belly sleeping yet though.

    My Mexico Thread

Ok I wanted to close out this thread. My Mexico journey is over now that Im home again safe and sound and banded. Im now five days post op and things where signif better today. I felt great, had tons of energy, and the only thing left bothering me is a little port site pain. Nothing unbearable. I can even sleep on either of my sides at night now. Thanks for your support to everyone who read and posted here. Cheers!

    Cravings

are you on full liquids yet? I had the worst cravings ever until I got on full liquids and now Im good. Hopefully you get to move onto your next stage soon. And Yes Im sure its normal and will go away. You have starved your body on your preop diet and now your post op diet. Its screwing with your head. Once you get to eat again you will be better. I dont know if cravings will ever completely go away, but Id imagine once your not starving your body they would at least get better.
  5. I had surgery yesterday and today I woke up hacking (which believe me doesnt feel good at all in my current state). I wasnt feeling sick at all when I went in for surgery yesterday. Im wondering if this is just a side effect from the anastesia when they put the tube down my throat and pumped air into my lungs. Or maybe Im getting sick? I really really really really really hope Im not getting sick. Anyone else get phlemmy after surgery?:scared2:

goopy in your lungs after surgery anyone?

Yep, just wanted to let you know that this went away after a few days. It must have had something to do with the air they pumped in my lungs with the tube while in surgery. It was a little irritating because it hurt to cough, plus I was worried I was getting sick and that was the last thing I wanted to deal with while recovering. But yeah it totally went away after two days as suddenly as it came. I am four days post op and feel great. =)

    My Mexico Thread

I got back to my house at 1am last night. Immigration took forevverrrrr to get through. It was so nice to speak English!! Id been speaking my broken Spanglish Ive learned from a life in California the whole time I was in Mexico. Not many people in Monterrey spoke English. A few at the hotel and the Dr and that was bout it. All the other places Ive been in Mexico there were a lot of English speakers. But I had always been to really touristy parts, Cancune, Cabos, you get the drift. So on my way home the girl who worked for the airline put me on the wrong plane. Im not even kidding you. I gave her my ticket at my gate, and she looked at it and put me in one of two lines (turns out it was the wrong one of the two). Then when I got on the plane I gave my stub to the airline attendant (who also looked right at it and didnt notice) to ask where my seat was, she looked at my ticket and told me where to sit. I got to that seat and someone was already there. I called the attendant over and she finally realized that I was on a plane to Cancun, and my ticket was to Mexico City! HA! Thank GOD someone had been sitting in that seat or else I would have sat down and not thought anything about it until I landed in Cancun! Even though Cancun usually sounds nice, I was really ready to come home to the good ol USofA. My plane was still bording and hadnt left yet. So alls well that ends well I guess.

    Freedom Fighters Weekly Weigh In

Hi I like this thread. I want to join in. I weighed myself today. I didnt weigh myself before my surgery so I dont know how much I lost preop. I do have my starting weight on the day I was banded though, last Thursday. So four days post op and Ive lost a pound and a half. Not bad. 07/20/2009 -1.5

    No surgery today...

I went threw the same thing. I had to cancell TWICE. And I had the same doubts as you, 'is this a sign??' But the third time was a charm and I am sooo happy to be banded. I am now four days pre-op and just got home from my surgery yesterday. I love my band! We have have doubts, its cold feet. Then compacted with the cancellation, that adds to the jitters.

Hoping I didnt hurt my band

I know someone who was slipped for weeks before they went to the doctors and they were able to drink water with a slipped band. Maybe that is usually the case that you cant drink water, but not always. So if you think something is wrong with your bad your best bet is to get checked by your doctor. I just wouldnt use the if you can drink rule of thumb if you are truely concerned that you are slipped.

    My Mexico Thread

Kevin, that must have been the same lady and her daughter Casey. Thats too bad we didnt get a chance to say hi to eachother. I feel good today. Happy to go home. I leave for the airport in less than two hours. I will be awake when I fly over MX City. My second flight leaves from there lol. So Ill see it up close.

    One week later

Lisa, Im totally with you on the burps and Im on liquids too. I burp like a sailor about 20 min after I finish my liquid and it gurggles down from my pouch into my big stomich. Then a few min later.....**RALPH** I cant controll it. It actually scared me at first that kind of noise coming out of me. Ive never burped like that in my life, now it happens at least three times a day. Im afraid elegant dinners will be out of the question! :wink2:
  15. By the way, 14 pounds sounds like a whole lot to me. I think you should be proud of yourself. Id be happy with 14 pounds in one month. Ive never done that before even when I diet and excersize. It takes me months and months to lose that much weight on my own. Dont be so hard on yourself, youre doing a great job!

  16. I have a Dr lined up for after care who does fills. And there is also always fill center USA. I may use the fill center for the fills and the Dr just for the check up apt. I depends on the cost break downs. Ill figure it out in the next six weeks before its time for my first fill.

    My Mexico Thread

Shout out: When I went to my preop apt I met another woman there getting banded by my Dr the same day as me and staying in my hotel. She had brought her 19 year old daughter along with her for support. Being the kind hearted woman from Oaklahoma she is, she befriended me and her and her daughter have kept me company and checked in on me the whole time Ive been here. Bless her heart! I havent been alone and she has truely earned my friendship. I am so thankful to have met her and had someone to go through this with. She also has the same pain issues and nausia issues as I do, so its been nice to talk eachother through it. I gave her the info to the lapbandtalk website because she doesnt have any bandster's support at home and I hope she comes here.

    My Mexico Thread

Hi Kev, I was banded by Dr Rubaut. Yes was banded at that hospital. I stayed at the Hampton Inns and I was so impressed with how smoothly they work with band patients. They seriously have it down to an art and the staff at the hotel has totally held my hand threw everything. I have a long flight as well as a three hour lay over in Mexico City. Ugh. Not looking forward to it AT ALL. But I really do miss my family and cant wait to get home. Its great that you didnt have any pain. My pain gets better everyday, as long as I can keep the nausia at bay.

    Newbie banded on July 7th

Hi Tracy, welcome! You have such a great attitude about the liquid sugar free diet. Im a total whiner. I cant stand this stuff and come on here to vent frequently about it! lol Congrats on your band!

How will you know if something is stuck?

Aw hon, sounds like youre stuck or you were and now your swollen. Ive never been stuck so I really dont know, but from what I hear its a feeling like a golf ball in the bottom of your throat. I dont know what you should do because the only bandsters I know who have talked about getting stuck were further out from surg than you. They just wait it out and go to liquids and feel better in a day or so. I guess you should call your Dr. Feel better and get back on the wagon. Liquids liquids!

    Nasty Thing People Say

That guy is a serious A-hole. Thats all I have to say about that. I would have just given him a really WTF look, shook my head, walked away, and not think about him again. Eww what a pompus arogant creep

    Pureed/Mushy foods...

As soon as I had my band my Dr said I could have full liquids which included pureed foods if they were liquid enough to suck threw a straw (but not to actually use a straw because thats a no-no). So I could have a blended banana with skim milk YUMMY. This morning I had a handfull of cherrios blended with skim milk ALSO YUMMY! Or I can have blended cream soups as long as they are really runny when blended. In two weeks I can start mushies which are soft foods that are not pureed or super runny. Then two weeks after that onto reg foods. Im so happy to be off my clear liquid diet!

self pay should I do it???

I am a self pay and in mexico right now. I go home tomorrow. I was banded on Thursday in Monterrey MX with Dr Rumbaut. My experience has been very good. I saved for my lapband for two years to come up with the money. In that time I read books on it, joined this website, and a local support group so I knew I was ready to make the change. I also found a dr who would see me locally for after care (that was a hard one!). I am so happy I made this choice. Even though Im in pain right now and cant eat anything but liquids for the past week, I still love my band! I hope to have a happy healthy lifetime with it! Just get that after-care lined up for sure!
