    Febuary

Hi I am getting banded in Feb with Dr Kuri in Mexico. Is anyone else getting banded in Feb?
  2. I want to start off by saying I don't have enough restriction most of the time. Its the weirdest thing. When I take my first bite of food, I have too much restriction. Then I stop eating after one bite, because I get stuck on the first bite every single time, and a few min go by and I feel that bite pass through my band. Well when that first bite finally passes through my band, its like the flood gates open up and I am suddenly so hungry and I can eat like I don't even have a band at all. I can eat anything and lots of it. But the first bite I am so tight that sometimes I even PB. This band business is so strange. I don't have restriction 99% of the time, but Im a little nervous to get a fill, because Im afraid of the FBS getting worse. I really need a fill so I can stop eating so much, and I have one sched for next Friday. For those of you with FBS, does getting filled more make it worse for that first bite? Am I going to PB every single time I take that first bite if I get more fill? Any advise is welcome.

7 ccs and I need some advice

I know its hard to have patience, but you will get to your sweet spot. Youre just going through what we all go through with Bandster Hell. Its so awful to be there! I know! And it sounds like you have a pretty agressive Dr to have you at 7cc's on your second fill. I went through the same thing as you, only I was going through it for six months after my surgery because my Dr made the fills go soooo small. I had to go to almost 4cc's in my 5cc band to feel good restriction, where others I knew only needed 2.85 to get to that sweet spot. So everyone is totally different. You wont know until you get to your spot where it will be. You may be like me and need more fill than most to get to that green zone. Take care and try to be kind to yourself while you are getting to that spot. Part of this process for all of us should probably be not to be so hard on ourselves and put so much pressure on oursleves with our body images and weight. You will get there, but it takes time.
  4. Isnt Dr Richard just the most amazing? I was having some issues with my band and emailed him for advise, since I wasnt happy with my local Dr's answer to the problem. Dr Richard replied to the email I sent him and gave me such wonderful advise. Every time I talk to him or Dr Rumbaut, I remember why I chose to go with them. They are just the best and so so knowledgeable. Just wanted to share with my fellow Rumbaut friend =)

People with FBS (First bite syndrome)

Hi, I just got home from my fill and got an additional .4cc's put in my band. This takes me from 60% full to close to 70% to the max amt of Fluid that my band will hold. I went and ate near the Drs office in case of a problem that I could run back and get an unfill, but it was fine. No change in the first bit syndrome. It was exactly the same. I took a bite, felt it get stuck (not any worse than usual), felt it pass through, then ate without any problems. So just wanted to let you know that in my case, the fill did not effect the FBS. When I got home from my fill, I had this email waiting for me from my wonderful Dr in Mexico. He did not do my fill because I live in Ca, so I get my fills done here by a different Dr. I do consult my surgeon in Mexico though when I come into issues, because he is wonderful and very knowledgeable (not to mention extremely handsome!) Shout out to Dr Rumbraut and Dr Richard! I wanted to share it here in case anyone else has the same problem I described. "Don't worry, we had patients with this problem in the past. I don't think you are too tight. I'm pretty sure that this happens with your first meal of the day or at night. What you have to do is drink some warm Water or tea before starting your meal. This will help you flush the mucus in your esophagus and pouch. If you hardly feel restriction during your meals, this means that you need a fill. I don't think this will get worse. Some antacids can help in case of inflammation of your pouch i.e. Prilosec OTC. Please contact us if you have any more questions" I have to say I think this is the problem and fills dont effect it much one way or the other. Good to know. Take care!

    Thats a thought
  7. How much fill do you have now? Do you think that maybe our stomachs are just less sensitive to the band? Like its just going to take more fill for us than other people? I still eat too much! How much fill do you have now? Im at 3cc's in a 5cc band and really JUST starting getting restriction with the last fill. So Im at 60% max fill. Im going to get somewhere between .25 and .5cc's on Friday. I really hope that gets me good and restricted.

People with FBS (First bite syndrome)

Im going to go in for the fill on Friday. I guess Ill find out afterwards if it gets worse or not. Hopefully it will be fine. I think Ill just go slow from here on out and have small fills. Im thinking .2 cc's.

People with FBS (First bite syndrome)

Right now I have 3cc's in a 5cc band. It seems like a strange size to people in the US because I wasnt banded in the US, but it works the same way as a 10cc band or any other size. I have an apt for another fill on Friday. Im thinking about getting .2 of a cc because I really dont want to end up in the ER foaming at the mouth. It just sucks because I am not too tight. I NEED more restriction. I am ONLY tight when I take that first bite, and for about five min after that. Then I eat like a horse. **frustraited** If I cant get more fill, Im afraid this band isnt going to work for me.

People with FBS (First bite syndrome)

**Bump** Anyone? To fill or not to fill, that is the question. Will I end up choking on my own spit if I get a fill because of the FBS? I am confused. I need more fill for the other 99% of the time; but Im really worried Ill end up gagging on my own saliva when I take my first bite of things if I do. Is FBS something that gets worse with fills? Or will it stay the same and the fill will help me with hungar after the first bite? **confused**

Why is my band so fickle now???

Yikes!! I JUST posted about this. I also have First Bit Syndrome, and I have a fill sched for next Friday. After the first bite I can eat and eat, but I ALWAYS get stuck on that first bite. I was wondering if I should get a fill or not. Your story is making me think twice. I need more restriction, but Im afraid that the FBS is going to get worse if I do get more fill. I dont want to end up choking on my own spit
  12. I have another fill next Friday. I dont have enough restriction most of the time. Its the weirdest thing. When I take my first bite of food, I have so much restriction. Then I stop eating after one bite, because Im stuck, and a few min go by and I feel that bite pass through my band. Well when that first bite finally passes through my band, its like the flood gates open up and I am suddenly so hungry and I can eat like I dont even have a band at all. I can eat anything and lots of it. But the first bite I am so tight that sometimes I even PB. This band business is so strange.

  13. Hows it going? I have had two more fills. I feel a little more restriction now, but STILL not enough. :( I am only 10 pounds down since surgery day five months ago. I want to get in for another fill soon. I think Im getting close. I have lost the last seven pounds of that ten in the last month so at least Im starting to lose finally.

  14. Hi, how are things going? Did you have your band removed? Did things totally get better once it was out? I have thought of you often.

Do you ever have band pain?

I have been banded four months and every now and then I feel band pain. Its not port site pain, its actually a deep pain in my stomach. I see my Doc in two weeks and Im going to bring it up then; but I was wondering if anyone else ever has band pain. It kind of feels like I rip something. I know in my surgery they stitched some of my stomach over the band to hold it in place, and I wonder if it is that Im tearing that when I stand up too quick or something. It usually hurts for a few days then the pain goes away and everything is back to normal.

Do you ever have band pain?

I have an apt in a few days. I said in my original post that I had made an apt.

Do you ever have band pain?

Yes my pain is also on the left side deep. I know its my band. At first I thought I was getting weird side aches; but then I realized it was my band around my stomach that hurt. My band isnt too tight though. I dont even have much restriction. I am starting to get worried. I go see my Dr in a few days. I really hope Im not eroding or something.
  18. Hi all my Freedom Fighters! So by now most of us have been filled a few times. I was one of those who lost only five pounds since surgery while in my "bandster hell". I have to say the name is appropriate because I did feel the hell of it all. Ten thousand dollars, three months, and only five pounds! I have had three fills and have 2.5cc's in my 5cc band. I am so happy to say that I have had restriction for the last week since my fill. =) I have lost two pounds this week which is what we are supposed to be doing. I think that means that I am now officially out of bandster hell. I have to chew now or I PB. I never thought Id be happy about PB's; but I am! That means I have restriction! Ive waited so long! I am not at the "sweet spot" yet and am going to get another fill in two more weeks; but I am eating less and able to make better choices because I'm not STARVING. So my tool is finally beginning to work. Are you guys experiencing the same thing?
  19. I was banded in July 09. I have only lost five pounds. No I haven't been exercising like crazy, but I did make several changes such as walking my daughter to and home from school which is a total of two miles a day. On top of that doing another mile walk on Tues and Thursdays. I am still eating a lot because I am hungry. I do PB sometimes, but most of the time I can eat a lot. Its so depressing to have only lost 5 pounds. My husband thinks this was a waist of money. I paid 10k because my BMI was too low to qualify for surgery. I want to believe this is going to work for me, but Im starting to doubt in myself and my band. I just wonder if anyone out there had a slow start but ended up losing the weight. I have read posts from people who the band didnt work for and Im starting to wonder if I am one of those people.
  20. Well I guess all I can do is stay positive, get another fill, and excersise more. Being negitive isnt going to help. I just wondered if there were those who lost super slow at first. Like five pounds in four months is the worst I have ever seen on the boards and being the slowst loser makes me wonder if I even have a chance. But thats a really screwed up way to look at it. I'll never have a chance if I look at it from that way. Its hard when I have failed at every diet, and that fear is in the back of my head that I will fail at the band too. With such a crappy weightloss after four moths, my head is like, "See!! Look this wont work for you either!" But Im going to shut it up, get a fill, hit the weights, and keep trying. Hopefully this next fill with some harder excersise will get it started. I really hope so.
  21. Well yesterday: for Breakfast one whole egg, one egg white, and one peice of whole grain toast. Then for lunch I had a chipotle bowl which had chicken, veggies, salsa, lettus and I told them to go light on the rice. For dinner I had a chicken breast in wine sauce, green Beans, and red potatoes. I know thats too much food. I had hoped that the band was going to help me not to eat as much.
  22. Hi Lana, Im glad to connect too. So by your signature it looks like you are one pound under goal? Im so happy to meet someone who had a slow start but still made it. I feel alone like Im the only one. I dont come on here much anymore because nothing is different. I have nothing to share and its hard to see everyone elses success even though I am happy for them of course. I am going to schedual another fill. They are so dang expensive. I hope I dont need as many as you because my insurance doesnt help me pay for anything band related. My band is half full now. Restriction is weird. I dont know if I have it or not. Sometimes I think I do because if I eat too fast I PB, but I get hungry fast after meals and I can eat a lot at one sitting. For example I ate an entire chipotle bowl. Have you ever seen one of those things? Id think if my restriction was right I wouldnt want to eat an entire one of those.

    Success rate with "low" BMI

I am four months out, started at 190 and now around 185. I dont have much restriction. I really hope that with more restriction the band will start working for me. But to answer your question, so far I have not been very successful with low BMI and the band.

Slow Losers, sometimes its NOT your fault!!!

A lot of Docs dont pull out the fluid just for this reason. It tends to upset the stomach with the loosening and tightening that happens when they do this. It also can mess with the elasticity of the band is what Ive been told. So many docs only pull out if necessary to see if there is a leak or a discrepancy in the amount that should be in there.

Are you out of "Bandster Hell"?

Yep. 5cc band. I get that same shocked reaction a lot. They use them a lot more in Mexico but not in the US. I was banded in Mexico. It is a common size band there. It works the same as bigger bands. I just guess that my sweet spot is going to have less wiggle room. Like I could get overfilled easier than people with larger bands.
