    JUNE 2009 Lap Band Surgery

Im doing back flips over here that my Dr doesnt have much of a preop for low BMI'ers over here! Its gonna be hard enough doing the post op diet. But ya'll will have a head start on me with the weight loss.

    JUNE 2009 Lap Band Surgery

:thumbdown: My Dr doesnt really have a preop diet for me because Im at 35 BMI. He said just Clear liquids the day before surgery. But I think Im going to diet about three weeks before surgery to get things boosted. Im good at losing ten pounds fast lol. Perfect crash dieter. But I could never do a full on liquid diet of slim fast or anything like a lot of people are having to do the weeks before surgery. My Dr said Im going to have to do a few days of clear liquids after my surgery then full liquids for a week after that and then mushies for another week or so after that. Hopefully it will be easier because Ill have the band in place; but he said it would be hard the last week because its not filled at all so once the swelling goes down you are as hungry as normal without the band. Either way it sounds no buino! At least we will have eachother to vent to!

    JUNE 2009 Lap Band Surgery

Hi everyone  I thought Id introduce myself. Im a 28 year old girl from Cali, and Im getting banded in MX with Dr Rumbaut on June 18th. I was going to go this month but then the whole swine flue thing hit :cool2: and the President said no travel that wasnt totally necessary so I desided to wait till June. I guess thats coming up here shortly so Ill try not to bust with anticipation!

Going to Mexico and Nervous about Swine Flu...

I cancelled my surgery but I reschedualed for the 19th of June. Bummer this stupid flue had to come out right now! I wish I could have reschedualed for later in May or earlier in June but Im going to be out of town and then my babysitters out of town when I get back so the 19th is the first weekend things will work out again. What luck I have! Ive been considering this surgery for two years and when I finally deside to do it theres some weird mass hysteria flue virus going around. Go figure...

    Mayo Bandito's dates only

 I dont have a May date anymore. I cancelled my surgery because of all this flue stuff and Im going to be in Hawaii for two weeks at the end of May so Im gonna be reschedualing for June 18th in Mexico. Another month of waiting!

Going to Mexico and Nervous about Swine Flu...

I just dont think I can go right now. As badly as I want to, I cant justify putting my family at risk like that. I am thinking about it so much I had a dream about it last night. I have a toddler and I could never live with myself if I brought that home to him. Im so depressed because I was so excited and so ready to go. I feel like a teenager who's just been told she cant go to her prom or something. Im so crushed. But I cant let my selfish want for the surgery over cloud my motherly instincts for my children's safety. And even the President is asking people not to travel to MX if not completely necessary. Looks like Im going to cancel my surgery and not reschedule until this whole thing calms down. I guess Im not going to be a mayo bandito after all. Im so so sad. I know its just a set back, but my unreasonable side feels like its never going to be my turn.

Is anyone else as bummed as me and seriously considering reschedualing?

    Recovery Time

Well actually only one is mine. He is two. The other one is my best friends who I watch while she works. She is only part time so its only for a few hours a day. Her son is one and a half. Then there's also my 7 year old. But she's my angel and a big helper. Thank god for her!

    Pre-op diets?

I have had the same thought too. It makes me feel selfish to take the risk, but honestly, I trust my Dr and his team. (and I have life insurance which is all I can do for them if I did go) I think these thoughts are normal. Besides, we are way more likely to go in a car accident running errands than from such a noninvasive surgery. Im pretty sure we are going to be just fine!

    Recovery Time

Im so lucky, Im a student so I dont have to worry about this. I can study from bed and school is only three hours at night twice a week. Im having my surgery on Friday and I have a class on Monday that I will be going to. I think Ill be ok though. I thing Im worried about the most is being able to keep up with my two toddlers! I can hardly keep up with them when Im in perfect health. I guess the house is going to be a disaster for a week.

Going to Mexico and Nervous about Swine Flu...

I am personally even more worried about going to the hospital than anywhere else. I think thats a less safe place because thats where all the sick people will go with their germs. I was going to have my surgery done at the big hospital there, but the Dr also has a smaller out-patient office. When I originally booked my apt, I chose to use the big hospital because if something went wrong in surgery I wanted to be in a hospital, but Im going to change it and have it done in his smaller out patient office because only patients having the band surgery go there. IDK though. I really am considering reschedualing the whole thing. Even if I am carefull, that doesnt mean that Im not going to get infected. And even if it is treatable, I dont want to chance having to deal with it at the same time Im trying to recover from WLS.

    Mood Changes

My Dr doesnt have me on a preop diet at all except for the day before surgery. And Im kinda jealous because all of you are getting a jump start on your WL. My preop is clear liquids for one day before surgery and then nothing not even liquids from 10pm the day before surgery. I am only gaining weight. The last meals so to speak. How ridiculous am I? I know I should start cutting back; and instead Im doing the opposite, trying to eat all the things that bandster's say they have trouble with after surgery. Thank God I will have a tool to help me fight this battle in a few weeks. Im kinda worried about the post opp diet. That one is a few weeks long. Full liquids then a few weeks of mushies then Im free to try to start living my perminant new lifestyle.

MAY 2009 Bandsters - shout out!!!

Dr Rumbuat is also a member of the American Biartric as well as the International Federation surgery of Obesity. He came highly recommended by Inamed and has trained a lot of the Drs here in the US. He is on the same level as other Drs like Ortiz and Kuri. I considered all three of them but chose Rumbuat because of his single incision approach. My second choice was Dr Kuri because I just really liked him when I talked to him a few times over the phone. He seemed to really care deeply about his patients. If Kuri did the single insicion I probably would have gone to him because of his bedside manor. I think all three of these Drs in Mexico are beyond qualified and pioneers of this surgery. I honestly chose my Dr over the other two because of my vanity. I hope someday after my 8,000$ works for me I can get back into a bikini and I dont want to have five scares. The bikini is probably wishful thinking, but hey! We can all dream right?! lol

MAY 2009 Bandsters - shout out!!!

Ohh Im going to call the airline later today and find out. Im flying into Monterrey MX and the girl who works for the Dr with the US patients told me I needed one if I was flying. Im going to call the airline and find out. That would be PERFECT if I dont need one. Then I could for sure go on the 8th. Im going alone. Im a little nervous to go all by myself but my husband cant go with me because of work. I dont want to go with anyone else. So Ill just strap on a pair and do it. Im going to Dr Rumbrant. Anyone else using him? Ive heard a lot of good things about him.

MAY 2009 Bandsters - shout out!!!

LMAO!!! hahahahaha :w00t: I like that one! Hi can I join?? Im going to have surgery in May too! Im going to Dr Rumbrant in MX. I want to have it done on the 8th but Im waiting on a passport so I dont know if Ill have it by then. I ordered it last Friday. I didnt realize I needed one when I schedualed surgery. Last time I went to MX I just brought my Birth Certificate but I guess things are different now. But my pass port will come close to that date in May and the Dr said he can fit me in as soon Im ready. Im getting nervous! I keep checking the mail everyday hoping for my pass port!

Anyone heading to OCC-Mexico in May?

Congrats Sheila, Im getting excited too! OMG its almost here!! :scared2:I wish I would have had the money to do it this winter because it would have been nice to be down a few pounds for the summer but oh well. Theres always next summer. Im getting really nervous. Im going to MX alone because my hubby cant get time off work and I dont want to go with anyone else. Id rather go alone if he cant come. I was hoping to meet someone here who was going to Dr Rumbrant in May so maybe I could get the same weekend and I could know someone, but I havent met anyone who is planning on using him :w00t:. So looks like Im just going to have to put on my brave face and do it alone:cool2:. Its scary thinking of being in another country and having surgery without my hubby there. I just keep telling myself that this is a very well respected doctor who Ive done a lot of reserch on, and he isnt going to do anything weird to me. I have called a few of his patients off his referal list and also talked to a few people who used him here and everyone has nothing but nice things to say about him so that makes me feel a little bit better. Im going to get threw this and come out so happy I had the balls to do it.

Anyone heading to OCC-Mexico in May?

Wow :scared2:thats a really loooong preop diet! My doc only has me on clear liquids the day before surgery. :grouphug: I wouldnt be able to make it threw a month of a strict diet like that. But it will be worth it. Ill try to send some will power from my end!! Good luck :smile2:

    Band Buddy? Dr Rumbrant ....

Anyone getting banded by Dr Rumbrant in the next few months?
  23. headin_to_mxico

    Gastric Balloon?

I considered the Balloon, but desided against it because I know I can lose weight, I just cant keep it off. The balloon doesnt keep the weight off and as soon as it is removed you are as hungry as you ever were because nothing is filling that space. Also, if it takes you longer than six months to lose the weight you would need another balloon and the price would start adding up. Or if I gained the weight back I would have had to get another balloon later down the line and the expense of it could just keep adding up and adding up. I had the same amount of weight, 50lbs, to lose. If you have a hard time with yo yo dieting and weight fluctuation then the balloon wont be a good choice. However if you feel really confident that you can keep the weight off without a tool afterwords then I guess it could work. From what my Dr told me, it wasnt originally designed for people with low weight loss. It was designed for people with goals of HUGE weight loss as a first step. Basically people who were so overweight that WLS would be too dangerous until they lost some of the excess weight. So they would be ballooned to lose that first stretch of weight until their blood pressure or whatever was in line enough so that they wouldnt die in WLS.

Hi, I am going to MX in either late May or early June, but I chose Dr Rumbrant because he does the single insision surgery and I have enough scares to begin with!
