I'm sure it's just my nerves kicking in...Surgery 3/16
xochtlem posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I'm getting sleeved next Wednesday, and I'm ready like Freddy...I've been on my pre-op liquid diet for a week and 2 days, although I have to admit I've cheated a little. I've kept it carb free, so at least there's that. I've had a couple pieces of grilled chicken or cheese here and there over the last couple of days. And it felt GREAT....until afterward I got this sense of failure, because I ate something other than these stupid shakes and/or broth. I keep trying to justify it that a) I KNOW my liver is normal sized (I had an ultrasound and CT scan of it recently), and It's Protein that I cheated with. But I still feel bad about cheating. And I shouldn't justify not following my diet orders. I haven't really lost any weight on the pre-op diet, even though I've been tracking and staying around 1100 calories. The NUT told me not to worry about calories so much as just getting the protein in, and to drink as much as I wanted. That's odd advice to me, but whatever. So because I haven't lost much weight pre-op, I'm beginning to freak a little and wonder if this sleeve will actually work for ME. I've seen everyone's pics and read their success stories, but I keep thinking "What if it just doesn't work for ME, tho???? What if it's all just a huge waste???? What if I don't lose anything at all?" I'm sure it's just nervousness leading up to the big day, but has anyone else experienced these types of feelings? How did you deal with them once you had the operation? -
Pre-op liquid diet is rough... ~_~

Reading your post, I felt like you were in my head. I'm on pre-op and cheated at day 7 the exact same way - bites of Protein here and there (cold cuts, grilled wings, cheese). I felt bad but it felt sooooo good to chew on something and feel it fill up my tummy. But you can't beat yourself up about it. Just move on, and try to maintain the liquids. Good luck! Documentation of Non-Surgical Weight Loss Attempts
xochtlem replied to careya123's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was in a medical weight loss program a year before starting this journey, so I just got a letter from that doc stating what went on during each visit, nutritional counseling, the phentermine doses, b12 shots, my weight loss, etc and submitted that to insurance with the other requirements. I'm sure it's just my nerves kicking in...Surgery 3/16

I think I've lost about the same amount, and I think I may be retaining Water with all the sodium in the soups and broths. Also, I'm SICK of sweet flavor, and I'm craving savory. However savory usually means more sodium. I was on a phô kick, and then egg drop soup, but I'm sick of that also. I don't know how I'll do it post-op, I'll just have to suck it up. Lol -

Did everyone have a Pre-op diet?
xochtlem replied to coleycole127's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The purpose is to shrink your liver, as they assume it's likely enlarged and fatty if you are morbidly obese. The goal is to shrink the liver so that it decreases the risk of cracking or otherwise damaging it when they move it out of the way using the retractor. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Did everyone have a Pre-op diet?
xochtlem replied to coleycole127's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on my pre-op diet now...not everyone has to do it, it depends on your doctor. Pre-op diets vary from Doctor to doctor. Mine is a 14 day liquid diet, while others may be 3-4 shakes per day and one low carb meal. A friend of mine was sleeved last year and didn't have a pre-op diet at all. -
I was just curious, but why are we not supposed to have caffeine early on post-op?

Ahhhhhaaaa. Got it. Thanks!! [emoji4]

I feel like a prisoner, marking off each day in a calendar.... I've had to go pee like every 30-45 min, my head hurts, and my stomach never quite stops grumbling. The nutritionist said I can have as much as I want of any liquid, but I feel like I still need to take the calories into consideration. How did you all get they this phase?? Tips, please!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet....
xochtlem replied to xochtlem's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just don't understand why my surgeon has this one-size-fits-all approach to the pre-op diet. I just want to eat a salad. Just a salad. I don't even have to have dressing, give me lemon juice and a dab of olive oil. I'm so jealous of people who get to eat an actual meal in their pre-op diet, especially knowing that my abdominal u/s shows a perfectly normal sized liver. I've never been so jealous of someone eating a Lean Cuisine. Right!!! I'm being such a hater right now.... -

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet....

My doc does allow sf jello, sf pudding, Dannon fit & light Greek yogurt, ice pops...I just wish I could at least have a small salad included too. -
I'm scheduled the same day. [emoji4]

I'm scheduled for March 16. Start pre-op diet on the 2nd. Good luck, everyone!!

It was so quick! I have Anthem BCBS of CA, and my surgeon's office submitted the paperwork late Friday. I got a call from Anthem this afternoon with my approval code. Wow!! I have my final consult next Tuesday, and my surgery is March 16. Now I'm a bit nervous about this whole liquid pre-op diet, but I know it'll be fine. I'm just so excited!!

Is it possible they put your height down wrong? No seriously, I ask because all my life I've believed myself to be 5'6" (and a half lol), and when I went to my first surgeon consult, they asked my height. They never measured it. But when I switched surgeons, they measured my height and I was 5'5, which made a difference in my BMI by like 2 whole points.

Reasons given for requesting time off?
xochtlem posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I have to put in my request for time off for surgery, and I was wondering what, if at all, should I say? I mean, I know it's ultimately none of their business, however I'm trying to use vacation time rather than sick time, because we get unlimited vacation and only 7 sick days per year. I know I can simply say I'm having surgery, but I'm wonder what others have said beyond that. My surgery will be on a Wednesday and I'm planning to be out the rest of that week and the following week (1.5 wks). Ive even considered telling them I'm going out of town, but then my imagination runs wild and I think, "what if I have complications and they found out I lied about going out of town??" I know, I know....I'm likely overthinking all of this. -
not enough sick time to cover sleeve, advise please
xochtlem replied to NYdad's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
How long can you wait to have the surgery? If you can wait about a month, I'd suggest signing up for Short Term Disability through a company like AFLAC and then taking FMLA time. The FMLA is unpaid time off, but with the SHort Term Disability you can at least get paid a portion of your salary while you're out. -

I just died laughing at the rehab and animal abuse! But, you make a good point. It's none of their business. Glad to know I'm not the only one who overthinks. -
question:Is the increase in Protein worth the increase in calories? I've been tempted to try them , but am hesitant. Each serving is only about 120 calories, 7g of sugar, and a whopping 15g of protein. Also 0 fat, 0 added sugar, and 0 artificial sweeteners.

I love Dannon Oikos Triple Zero, especially the Coconut creme flavor.

What can I do with...Brussels Sprouts?
xochtlem replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in Regular foods (stage 4)
I like to grill mine on a grill pan. Sometimes I sear them with diced pancetta, for a smoky, bacon-y flavor. However I haven't been sleeves yet, but I'm thinking it should be okay in moderation at the regular food stage?
