Sleeved on 12/28
ironpoorer replied to courtcourt90's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
YOU SAID IT! I hope I never see another Protein shake again, when I am done! And I started the liquid diet Dec. 7, because we were unsure if I would get insurance approval to have it done the week of Christmas. Ended up a week later, so an extra week of the shakes! I also agree 1000%; I could kill for anything NOT broth, Premier Protein Shakes, Isocure Protein drinks etc. This week I am allowed tomato soup or creamed Soups with no lumps (like chicken chunks etc); Next week I graduate to baby food...pureed meat/veg, no lumps of course and I believe V8 veg juice and cottage cheese (yea! some flavor finally!)I keep looking at the little round box of Laughing Cow cheeses in the fridge, I have almost convinced myself that they really ARE a liquid, not a solid .I have only dropped about 5 lbs since my operation last Monday, hopefully that will increase substantially over the next weeks -
Confused over Post-op Vitamin regimen
ironpoorer posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my sleeve 12/28 and have had no complications, in fact I feel almost 100%. Prior to the sleeve I had a 1 hour teleconference with my Doctor's dietitian where we reviewed all the Vitamins etc I would need to take, plus she sent me a 50 page attachment which also describes the same. On my release from the hospital, they also reviewed what I will need to take. Now comparing notes there are inconsistencies between the 3. I know I have to take a Multivitamin, Calcium (citrate), Vit D and B12. Hospital said 3000 mg B12 sub-lengual, the book says 500, neither says what kind of Vit D (as I recall there were several), but do not know quantity of units, ditto for Calcium, not sure how much. Can anyone help me to set up a daily regimen of exactly what to take and how much? -

Welcome to the group and good luck with your surgery. I assume that you are going to Poland because the NHS restricts Bariatric surgery? -
Sleeved on 12/28

I was also sleeved on Monday and what you describe is about what I feel though I have been able to drink all the liquids needed; lots of broth, water and Protein drinks, no problem with the 64 oz min they wanted. I think the tightness as you describe it is normal wounds swelling/healing -
Sleeved on Dec 28, a few questions1
ironpoorer replied to LeslesLosingIt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hope someone answers you as I have the same questions; I was also sleeved 12/28 and so far have zero problems drinking broth, Water or Isocure Protein drinks. I can drink about 12 oz of broth in 10 minutes and I think I am starting to feel full (have not wanted to over do it). So far, 64 oz Fluid and 60 grams of protein are no problem, I have been drinking 2 x 20 oz Isocures/day at 40 gms protein each, plus numerous cups of broth. The only nausea I have had were the night following the surgery. Other than that, I feel almost normal, albeit a little weak. Good luck to you! -
I agree, I did the same thing thru Dr. Clayton Frenzel in the Dallas area. You have to go for an EGD test to determine whether you have the hernia; if so then the sleeve only costs you $3500 out of pocket. I just had my sleeve done on Monday and think Dr Frenzel did a great job; other than the incisional pain, I feel great and am very able to drink broth and the Isocure clear Protein drinks with no nausea. In fact I was able to drive back home (NW Arkansas area) two days after surgery. Can't say enough good things at this point.

Dumb question - I hope it won't offend
ironpoorer replied to TinyTink's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
As a frequent traveler to TJ and other parts of Mexico...do not drink tap water ever and I would avoid ice chips unless I was assured by the hospital that the water is purified. Even such things as brushing teeth should be done with bottled water. I would assume the hospital provides such bottles but if you are worried, take a 12 pack from the US -

December 2015 or January 2016 sleevers ?
ironpoorer replied to neequa25's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As I stated, I just had my Sleeve on Monday and am doing surprisingly well; so well I am a bit worried. Reading about my new stomach's capacity, I am worried that only 3 days after surgery I am able to drink a 10 oz coffee cup of broth in about 10 minutes with no problem, and have no problem at all drinking Water and Protein Isocure shakes- I have drank almost two 20 oz bottles today, as well as multiple cups of broth. I feel fine other than the incision pain. Thoughts? I hope he didn't leave my stomach too big. -
December 2015 or January 2016 sleevers ?
ironpoorer replied to neequa25's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my operation Monday afternoon in Plano; had a tough time coming out of anesthesia in recovery but eventually came out and went to my room;Dr. Frenzel said that I "had made hem work pretty hard' as my liver was very large and fatty- and that he should have made me lose 50 lbs pre-op instead of 25, but everything was successful. I was released Tuesday afternoon, 24 hour after surgery, rested up on Wednesday and drove home yesterday (we live 6 hours away from Dallas)So far everything is OK, drinking broth and Isopure protein drinks with no problems. The night of the surgery was a little rough, I had some nausea and just felt like I got run over by a truck but by the next day I felt much better. Today I feel great, a little discomfort around the incision sites but nothing too bad. But anywho I was reluctant to have my surgery because I've known I had a fatty liver for 6 yrs now and it has always hurt me for yrs cause of my weight. But hearing your story just made me realize I need to move forward with my surgery I'm just going to do a two week liquid diet instead of one week. So thank you for sharing this means a lot to me Glad to hear that, hope everything works out for you as well. -

December 2015 or January 2016 sleevers ?

I also worry about my wife, she has not been very supportive up till the last minute (maybe she didn't believe I would go thru with it?). Loks like we're all 3 getting sleeved the same day- the 28th. I was hoping for an early am appointment but don't have to check in until 10:30-11 am....more time without coffee!!! I must admit that after starting the pre-op diet well, losing 25 lbs, I have not been very good this week. I have not re-gained any weight but I doubt I have shrunk my liver much We leave early Sunday am to drive to Dallas and check into the hotel where my wife and son will stay until I am discharged and recuperate enough to drive back home. Good luck all!!! -
12/28/15 Sleeve in Plano TX
ironpoorer replied to ironpoorer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks, Dr Frenzel is my Dr -
I will he having my surgery in a week; trying to do the liquid liver reduction diet during Xmas is a bit difficult and there has been some minor cheating but I have lost over 25 lbs already so I hope there is a bit more elbow room in there.I will be driving down to Plano from about 6 hours away; wife and son will be staying at a hotel close to the hospital. I just pray I will be able to drive home 3-4 days after getting out of the hospital. Getting nervous as hell this week, but am still committed to getting this done. Thanks for all the advice I have read in here over the last few days

Dr. Frenzel Arlington/Dallas
ironpoorer replied to ready2bmenow's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Dr. Frenzel will be doing my sleeve on 12/28; so far he and his staff have been fine. I saw him originally ib Texarkana, then had the EGD in Plano with no complaints. Had my pre-op visit in Texarkana on Saturday and am cleared for surgery. Fingers crossed! -
December 2015 or January 2016 sleevers ?
ironpoorer replied to neequa25's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is also the 28th, in Dallas. I have dropped about 25 lbs, still trying to lose more. My Doctor also requires a minimum 1 day stay, sometimes 2. As we are from out of town we will be staying in a local hotel for a few days to recuperate as it is a long drive back home and my wife does not like driving on the highway...so I hope to. Doc says it should be Ok but to stop every hour for a 10 minute walk. Right now still very nervous, but I know it is the right choice; I need a lifestyle change- I have been up and down forever, last few years just up up and up. Best of luck to you and all!!!
