    A question about clothing...

I had a closet full of shirts and pants that did not fit going back 10 years; shortly after surgery my jeans were falling down and I found a smaller pair- and got rid of all my 'big' jeans. Ditto for shirts; I now have 20 shirts that fit me again but will get rid of as they become too big and other smaller ones begin to fit. Burn the bridges, but only after getting to the next size.

    Denial advice

There are always alternatives, self pay- either in the US or in Mexico, there is often financing if you qualify. Many doctors do the sleeve in conjunction with a hiatal hernia repair and the VSG is at a much reduced cost (my Dr in Dallas charged $3500 for this option, following his diagnosis that I indeed had a HH via EGD/scope). Don't give up hope!

    Eating after surgery

I went back and re-read the entire 2 pages and fail to see where anyone including myself was rude to you but did not see it. Perhaps you can point it out. I hope you are over your daydreaming cravings; surely someone coming up and complementing you for how much weight you've lost will satisfy your needs much more than a volcano chalupa or taco

    Hernia repair vs not

I had VSG+hiatal hernia repair in December, the first few days were rough but got better quickly. I am OK with the shakes but they're not my favorite. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Who was sleeved in January 2016?

Red meat is not a problem but it does seem to not digest well- feels like I have a belly full if rocks. Other than that I am good with all other foods so far except for pickles and vinegar type things which don't seem to sit well with me. Give it time hopefully things will settle down for you and your stomach too. best of luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

How can you tell you lost weight?

For me the biggest difference is the increase in energy. I actually am driving my wife crazy doing all the things I was too lazy to do before. Maybe lazy is the wrong word... too damn FAT to do. Also am down from a button popping 52 jeans to size 46 falling off my ass. I am down 80 lbs since my pre-op diet the day after Thanksgiving, 50 since surgery on Dec 28. I don't have to have the steering wheel all the way up to fit in the car, my legs don't almost bust the armrests off the office chair, and I didn't need the extender belt on the plane a few weeks ago! Leftovers? Hell, that's all I can eat usually- two or three bites of whatever we had the night before. One other side effect is that grocery shopping is BORING! Maybe I really was a food addict! Don't worry, you'll start to see and feel the huge difference soon. So will everyone else, and when they tell you how much weight you have lost, it's almost better than sex. Eating after surgery

Like most here my Doc had me on mushies for the second two weeks; now I fee better about my 'cheating'...a few Laughing Cow cheese wedges, some queso fresco and a bit of salmon. My new stomach does most things well, except beef (feels like rocks in my belly) . Desiring a taco from Taco Hell so soon seems like you may need to evaluate your priorities. Plus, I doubt the beef, let alone the spices will feel good in your tummy
  9. Any issues with having been sleeved 12/28/15 and having a colonoscopy now? Any issues with the pre-scope diet? I have an appointment with our Family doctor tomorrow, but should I also call my sleeve Surgeon? 3.8.16 edit: sorry, tried to past something and the post went crazy; sorry

    Today's the Day

Mom always said that if you can't say something nice, say nothing...but I can't. Maybe I am off base but to me there is something very strange about your post, your words. Almost scary. I wish him the best of luck

    Two months post surgery

So difficult to not compare; we are trained to do so our entire lives; you being down 100 lbs. overall is phenomenal. I guess I am just in a hurry, or worried that I should be trying harder.

    Two months post surgery

The 28th was my two month mark and I am only down 44, you make me feel inadequate damnit! Next step- join fitness center/excersize more!

    I had a binge :(

Feeling sick after eating at McD is normal, no? Nasty prefabricated, processed poison with the right amount of salt, fat and carbs calculated perfectly to create an addiction to it as it slowly kills you. One day does not a diet make- or break. Get back on the diet today and problem solved. As to after the surgery, if you go, only order a small cheeseburger or a couple nuggets because the rest will go in the trash...and then get ready to puke shortly after eating it.
  15. I am in the exact same boat, sleeved 12/28 @ 382; am now at 345. It does not seem as fast as others, though I think I am following the diet to a 95% level. Thinking about joining a fitness center to try and get some much needed exercise (I work in an office all day and don't get much). Can you folks who are 'years out' from surgery give an average or your experience say for the 1st year?

    Can't stop "cheating"

I hate to say it but it's time to put on your big girl panties and grow a pair (mixed metaphors I know, sorry). If you think that having the surgery is the end all answer and all these urges will magically go away you're dead wrong. As has been said a million times here it is only a tool. Drink a protein shake, go for a walk, read a book, anything other than surrender to your cravings. It will not change after the operation, you will only be able to eat less quantity- but you still can stuff yourself every time you eat and you can eat 24 hours a day...just less at one time. In no time you will be back to the same.

    Alcoholism & WLS

I must say that I drank to excess before surgery and always figured I was alcoholic; for the pre-surgery diet I just quit and really had no difficulties doing so; since then I had 2 drinks (before surgery) after work on the last day before our Christmas shutdown, and nothing since surgery. Again, it seems way too easy...always thought I would suffer more The Dr. said my liver looked good except that it was very fatty...no cirrhosis thank God and good genetics! I guess now thinking about adding 500+ calories daily of sugar back to my diet and most likely arresting my weight loss...after going thru what I have in the last few months seems a bit silly, so any thoughts of drinking are quickly vanquished by the urge to continue to drop weight every week.
  18. Curious about the umbilical hernia repair and how that goes, as I too need to have the same. Please keep us posted or send a PM. I seem to be more afraid of that operation than the sleeve. I just passed the 1 month mark for the sleeve with no problems at all thank goodness. I am eating a 'regular' diet for the most part, though things like beef or pork seem to bother my stomach (feels like a belly full of wood chips). Usually a cup of warm broth makes it pass. Broth is a blessing, I have learned to make the best bone broth, roasting the bones, then cooking them down with leeks, onions, carrots, celery, bay leaves and other assorted spices. It sure beats the heck out of the store bought crap. I am down about 30 lbs. since the day of my sleeve, and 60 since I started the pre-op diet just before Thanksgiving. Kind of it a stall around week 3-4, then last week started losing again. Hope I can keep it up. have not had much trouble at all getting 80g of Protein, I make a shake using 1.5 scoops Body Fortress powder which should provide about 80-90g, then whatever little bit I get from meals is an added bonus. It is more trouble remembering to drink enough Water during the day, I still struggle with that.

    What can I do with...Avocado?

Mash it up w/a smidge of EVOO and use in place of mayo in tuna/chicken salad, sandwiches etc. Great sliced/cubed and in a salad with heart of palm and white asparagus (not sure if that is permitted?)
  20. Just curious what other's are experiencing for stomach capacity with their newly sleeved stomach; after two weeks I really have no problem knocking back an 11 oz Protein shake, ditto for broth etc. My biggest problem is remembering to drink water during the day at work, I rarely do though I am trying to drink a couple bottles a day while working. I really have no problem drinking...just remembering and making myself do it.
  21. I seem to have the exact opposite problem with my BM's, very watery still after almost 2 weeks. I thought it was due to nothing but liquid going in (protein shakes, Soup, etc). I don't want to take anything, nor do I want to call the Dr. for something so minor- everything else has been perfect (no nausea, able to drink everything...feel great etc etc)

    Sleeved on 12/28

I have seen my weight fluctuate greatly as well, a week after surgery I was up 8 lbs! I did notice my ankles were slightly swollen so I choked it up to Water retention....a few days later I was back down and had actually lost 4 lbs. Makes sense, if there is next to nothing going in other than 80grams of Protein via Protein shakes and drinks, then it is impossible to actually gain weight (fat weight)

South Wales I having my sleeve in febuary

Not sure what brands are available in the UK; I like Premier Protein brand, you get 30 grams of protein with only 1 gram of sugar; you want maximum protein (more than 15-20 g), and less than 5 g sugar...or so they say God luck! http://www.premierprotein.com/

    Dr. Kim in Texas

I live in NW Arkansas, about 7 hours from Dallas; I traveled to Dr. Frenzel's Texarkana office for my initial visit, then scheduled the EGD test to determine if I had a Hiatal hernia, stayed the night at a motel and went home the next day. Four my sleeve my wife and I drove down the 27th, had the operation the 28th and was released the 29th. I rested that day and drove home the 30th. I had originally made reservations for two more nights but felt good enough to drive home...stopping every hour for a ten minute walk at the Dr's insistence I have read some coments about his staff not being up to par but my experience has been very good, in fact the agreed that my Post-op follow up.could be done over the phone as I have had no problems with meeting the fluid and protein goals each day. That saves me a 4.5 hour drive each way back down to Texarkana, thank goodness!
