Anyone not telling anyone about their surgery?
ironpoorer replied to taramarie523's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Most everyone I know is aware of my surgery; I see no reason to hide it. Everyone has been very supportive, several co-workers have even asked for my surgeons contact info. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Fatigue.... 5 months post op
ironpoorer replied to bhopeful's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Odd your Dr"s advice about meals and protein; contradicts totally what I was told. 3 lite meals plus 2 snacks; 80 grams Protein, 64 oz Water, around 1200 calories/day. I would double check with your Dr. and maybe get a 2nd opinion Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I had a VSG on 12/28. My doctor has an outreach office in Texarkana TX, closer to me than his Dallas office so that is where I had my pre-op visits. Surgery went fine and I was released the next day and drove back to northern AR where we live. We set an appointment for 1 month later for follow-up. The day of the appointment I could not travel to Texarkana due to inclement weather. I called his office, left VM asking for another appointment the next time he was there (every second Saturday) but never got a callback. I called again and spoke to an office assistant and was promised a call back, again nothing. As I have had no complications at all, I was not too concerned but after having several episodes of neuropathy/paresthesia of the tongue I called again to see if there might be a connection (B-12 deficiency is isted as a possible cause though I do not have the other symptoms and take 3500 units sublingual each week); spoke to someone in his office; we got cut off- so I tried again and only got VM which I left. Nada, sent a email contact thru his website, and again, nothing. WTF? I am now 4 months post-op and have never seen him for follow-up. W even discussed having my umbilical hernia repaired after sufficient weight loss. I have lost almost 100 lbs and cannot say enough about his surgical skills as I have not had any complications at all and seemingly have healed completely, I still question my relationship with a Doctor whose office staff at least seems so incompetent at simple office protocol. Ideas?

As long as the billing staff is as inept as the appointment staff, and they never send me a bill...I am good -

How long was your pre-op process?
ironpoorer replied to SarahSleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I went to a few seminars at various doctors, starting in late summer 2015. My first visit with my would be surgeon was in October, I had an EGD test November 1 , And ended up having surgery on December 28 following a two-week pre-op diet and a two week liquid liver reduction diet; I was a self pay case as my insurance would only pay a small portion, I went with the hiatal hernia program that the doctor offered Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

ironpoorer replied to socalLA's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery

Is anyone's goal weight higher than the BMI chart weight?
ironpoorer replied to her1981's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Having started with a BMI of 55 ( 6'1" 414 lb) I personally would be content to get to 250, happier still at 220 and ecstatic if I ever make it to 'onederland'. Have not seen my weight beginning with a 1 since shortly after boot camp 38 years ago. -

Help me pick a Multivitamin...
ironpoorer replied to mid's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Is there any danger in taking too many Vitamins? Not that I take hundreds but I take an extra Vitamin every day. Also I take 3500 units of vitamin B 12 sublingual weekly as I have read of concerns of B 12 deficiency; has anybody had any issues with B 12 absorption due to the loss of the factor which helps you absorb it? 5 Days out of VSG
ironpoorer replied to MissSunshine_danimarquis's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It was about the same for me, followed by a sudden 12 lb gain; water weight can fluctuate greatly post op -
With the high number of Banders out there with serious issues I would think there has to be a law firm somewhere just licking their lips getting ready to file a Class action lawsuit.

Dr in Dallas or Irving
ironpoorer replied to StephanieS13's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I had my sleeve performed by Dr. Clayton Frenzel at the Plano Surgical Hospital. I can't say much about his office staff as they seem lacking in general skills such as taking messages, answering voicemail, etc., however his surgical skills must to be great as I have had no complications whatsoever and I am quite happy with the results Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Is it normal to be afraid ?
ironpoorer replied to biglady904's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was a bit nervous but OK really until just before the surgery; gowned and such, hooked up to IV and ready to get wheeled into the OR...then started sh#$$ing myself, and having a serious dialog with a certain All Powerful entity that I often debate His existence . Really got nervous when they got me into the OR, and would have said F$#k this...if they hadn't put me under rapidly. Best thing I ever did in retrospect, no regrets at all. -
What Was Your Final "straw That Broke The Camels Back"
ironpoorer replied to bigjoe102's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It is rather difficult to pinpoint one single straw, there are so many. Like probably everyone here there has never been a single day when you do not think about being fat and wishing you could do something about it. Photos...few and far between. I passed to never getting a booth 10 years ago cuz I didn't fit, about the same time airline seat belts didn't reach and every shirt I owned was stained from food as I couldn't lean over enough for it to fall/drip back on the plate/bowl. Blood Pressure went up, Feet and ankles swollen- had to buy shoes another size larger. Couldn't button pants as my fat roll got in the way. Couldn't zip my zipper after taking a pee- arms were not long enough to get both hands down there, Could barely wipe my ass...again arms not long enough to reach. Could barely do anything around the house, mowing the lawn to have my 11 yr old help. Dropped a cigarette and could not pick it up without taking a knee- then could not get up without help.Diagnosed as diabetic, had to take oral medication to lower sugar. Finally began seriously looking into WLS, went to Blue Valley Surgical office in Springfield MO, had to go into bathroom to give a urine sample and there was the biggest toilet I had ever seen; bowl must have been 20" diameter and the seat was at least 8" wide and 1" thick...suitable for My 600 lb life! Of course I was nowhere near that big (LOL)- then weighing in at 414 lbs! Almost fat enough to get on the show! Thank God for that toilet...it really got my attention I am now almost 100 lbs down from that weight, 30 or so on the pre-op diet, the rest since my sleeve on 12/28/15. Next milestone, weight that begins with a "2"...then my ultimate goal of getting under 250 (or even 200??) later this year. -
I actually had my 1st FF meal since mt sleeve today; a 1/4 pounder/cheese plus all the goop they dump on it. I was able to eat most of the meat but ill not be going back soon. Should of had a grilled chicken sans bread...and goop.

Hernia repair vs not
ironpoorer replied to Juhygtfrdsd's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My next step will be umbilical repair surgery, hopefully I will not need to take off so much time. Any insight you can give me would be great. How bad was it? Did you simply have surgical repair or did they have to use mesh or exactly how did it go? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Tell me about the week after your surgery....
ironpoorer replied to breezy25's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Following the surgery the first 24 hours I was in the hospital and honestly only felt bad the first six or eight. The next day I was released and felt much better. The following day we drove home six hours I drove all the way with no problems and felt fine. I really had no complications either- no nausea, no gas and was drinking broth and Isopure Protein drinks right away for the first couple weeks. The biggest problem I had was one thing to eat, to chew, to have something other than Protein shakes and broth but I became a big broth fan Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
