Lap Band After Fundoplication????
ForwardLeap replied to scott_37's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi I had fundoplication surgery done last year at the same time as my lap band. I do not know what you mean by it slipped down? What are the symptoms and how did you know it slipped? You mention scar tissue is this scar tissue from the fundoplication surgery or scar tissue from digestive damage? I had mine done Laproscopic. -
HELP! Swallowed Gum and it won't go down!
ForwardLeap posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I really need some advise if any of you have done this. I accidentally swallowed a piece of gum at 11:30 today, I have not been able to eat anything or keep even fluids in. I have voimited, and slimed myself many times over the past hours. I called the Dr and he said either wait till morning and just see what happens, or go to the emergency room and maybe one of the Dr.'s on call can help. Has any of you experienced this before and if so what did you do? Thanks for your help! -
HELP! Swallowed Gum and it won't go down!
ForwardLeap replied to ForwardLeap's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Yes, I tried hot tea--no luck. I then remember reading in one of the post that pineapple juice helped when meat got stuck--did not work on the gum. After 15 hours of it being stuck and vomiting I went to the ER and had to have all my Fluid removed from my band:sad_smile: I had to do something. But thanks for all your imput! -
need advice for work schedule and eating and drinking
ForwardLeap replied to Meme1504's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am right there with you! I work all the time often I leave the house at 6 AM and will not get home until 10 pm. I can not seem to find a way to eat to fit this hectic schedule! I have a problem if I try to eat to quickly( whilch basically my break time would require quick eating) I will slime--when I do it is bad so I often just do not eat as I could not work when these slime sessions happen. I am in health care and know it is important to take care of me, but am at a loss as to how I should even try to eat with my time schedule--but I would think not eating very much and being physically active as I am should create some weight loss and it is not---ugh! -
Am I eating enough? Am I too tight?
ForwardLeap replied to nymoosic's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Okay I am glad I ran accross your post. I have a 4cc band, I had my 3rd fill 3 weeks ago and am now at 3cc in my band. Prior to getting this fill, it was like I had no band at all. All the weight I lost was right after surgery on the total liquid, mushy stage. I only lost less then 5 pounds with my fills-(I had band placed on Christmas eve 07) This time I can eat some things fine one day and the next day I can't. Most mornings I can hardly eat anything--but can get Cereal to stay down. Sometimes I can not drink Water with out it hurting. I have read other post where people said they felt like this and had some taken out only to regret getting the unfill. So I keep thinking this will get better. I have frequent "slime" episodes and if I try to drink water to see if it will push it through--Up it all comes. I am more active now then I have been in years, no I do not go and exercise--I now have a job where I am physically working, mopping floors, cleaning, bending, lifting ect... I work constantly and hardly have time to sleep let alone go to a gym. I figured it is not the same as an exercise routine, but it was definately better then being a couch potatoe and should be helping me along..... Problem is the scales have not moved other then 2 pounds right after my last fill. I have only lost 2 pounds since January. I can hardly eat anything most days surely I should be losing weight! I do not eat the junk food, I do not drink pop. I am not good about getting protien in as I can't swallow it easily or have gotten aprehensive as I am working so much and it would be horrible to start sliming while at work. I also am for the first time maybe starting to feel full---I do not feel full, I just no I can not eat any more. I want to eat more but do not dare. My question is how do you know when your approaching your last bite? How much should you be eating? Lately I eat 2-3 bites and the sliming starts and yes, I chew, and chew--It is completely chewed when it goes down but it comes back up. Please share your experiences as many of us are in similar situations. -
Hiatal Hernia/EGD Surgery Tomorrow Morning
ForwardLeap replied to dlollie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery and left as soon as I was out of recovery. -
I hear what you are saying! I was banded at Christmas, and have lost some but have reached a point where I will lose 3 pounds to regain it. I am always hungry. I have no restriction and I have had 2 fills in a 4cc. band. I realize I have to change my eating habits and have made huge strides in the right direction. But still have been disapointed that the band is not helping me at all as of yet. I have lost weight but basically it was what I lost the first month on liquids and has been sheer hard work to keep it off---no I am not eating fast food like I did before, no chips, no pop, no I am not stuffing my face on icecream and Cookies, or bread.....all these habits I gave up, however, I eat salads, veggies, yogurt, meat and have healthy meals and still I am at a stand still.... it is very frustrating. I guess we just have to hang in there until we finally get restriction and the band can start helping us out. It is easy to get overwhelmed with it all....seems I am more obsessed with dieting now then I used to be but I just do not want to go backwards. Hang in there!

My Doctor explained that the band he placed in Dec 07 is called a 10 band but only holds 4cc. The type of band he places is determined by how much fat is around the stomach when he gets in there. If someone has alot of internal fat around the stomach he will place one of the bands that holds 10 cc or more of fluid.

Fills in Kansas City... or the area!
ForwardLeap replied to cmcginnis8's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You could go to the WLSC at Overland Park, they do other Dr. Fills. My surgeon is Dr. Selim. He works out of the clinic as well as his office at KU MED. located in the hospital. The WLSC said they do alot of fills on people who were banded in Mexico. Thier # is 913-541-0230 Dr. Selims office # 913-588-1489. I have had fills both places. If you have to pay cash the weight loss center is cheaper. But Dr. Selim is really good if you have insurance. You might want to give them a call and see if it will be a good match for you. I can tell you Dr. Selim only gives fills on Thursday mornings, and there might be a wait. I am sure you will be able to get into the clinic much sooner if you just call them up and tell them that you were banded in Mexico. I was told to get a fill at 6 weeks out. So I am not sure why they dont want you to get a fill for so long. -
My body, my band, my BETRAYAL
ForwardLeap replied to MamaJava's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay take a deep breath! The first 6 weeks are for healing. My doctor does not even care if you lose weight during this time. The band is a tool, and you do not feel restriction sometimes until 2 or 3 fills. So it will kick in but you have to give it time. Also sometimes people say if they increase the calories to 1,000-1200 calories they will start to lose. I know myself I was frustrated as the scales said the same thing for 4 weeks straight. I was exercising, and just was not losing. But yesterday I finally lost another pound and a half. I was banded Christmas eve. I lost 30 pounds total by the time I was 2 1/2 weeks out and then nothing for the rest of the time. I understand frustration but you have to have a "mind" check! You can't be thinking doom or its that much harder to keep your spirit up. I see so many post here of people that have achieved wonderful results and many go thru periods like this. Keep going! You will get there -
Terrible time with trying to get 1st fill
ForwardLeap replied to Lynn0216's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Actually my Dr. will only do your first fill under Flouroscopy. I read Dr. Oritz book and he says that if you get your fills done with Flo. you tend to have better fills, and better results. I would print out the emails and would take them to the clinic that is close to you and share your experience. There is absolutely no excuse for that behavior! You were quoted a price, and if they had done it as they were supposed to have then you would probably not have had such an awful experience! Remember you are employing the Dr. You do have a choice. He manipulated the fact that you did not know anywhere else to go and used that against you. They were going to charge you for the service and then tried to rip you off by not giving you the correct service. That sounds very unethical and I am sure there is something that can and should be done about it. -
I am freaking out!! I need advice......
ForwardLeap replied to findingme's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Can you have then do flouroscopy when they give you the fill? My doctor does this and they can see what they are doing. -
Hi Sharon, I did use the Isagenix prior to my band and it is a tool to get you started. That being said I lost around 80 pounds with it and my husband lost 90. Great huh? Unfortunately once I quit drinking the 2 shakes a day and the meal (400-600) calories I started putting it back on and with in months I gained it all and more back. That is why I opted for lap band. I need a permenate tool. I simply could not keep spending the money for both of us to continue.(almost $600 mo.) Plus the cost of food. But it would be a wonderful tool in preparing for the lap band surgery I would think. Has your Dr. told you what to do to prepare for surgery? Do you feel like this on the cleanse? I did and that is when I stopped doing the cleanse. It was funny, I had a rough time in the beginning but then got used to it and went months with no problems. I cleansed 1X a month then out of the blue, everytime I tried to drink the cleanse I would gag. Best of luck!

How much food do you eat at your sweet spot?
ForwardLeap replied to dustout's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Just my 2 cents worth but: There are many places you can get a fill, just like other companies the Dr. has to earn and compete for your business. I would sit down or write a letter to the Dr. and tell them you are looking to find another place to get your fills, NOT because of him., but because....share your experience and how it made you feel. Explain that it is a hard enough journey for you and it is upsetting to have the added stress by rude comments like you received and you find it insulting. Were your fills included with your band placement? If so you might just go directly to the Dr. tell your experience, and request someone else give your fills. Everyone is different and one person may require more fills then another does. I think it is understandable what your saying about Snacks and meals. You were just thinking how long between when you eat. Sorry you are having this experience. Keep us posted how things turn out and do not let this lady bring you down. -
AlkaSeltzer Cold & Flu
ForwardLeap replied to minpinmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just wondering how effective the medicine would be as I thought that what helped your tummy settle WAS because of the bubbles??? Hopefully a Dr. will post or someone who has already asked a Dr. -
I am going to have to try this! I don't think I have seen this in the store but is this something I can find at a local grocery store?
-
Let us know how you do. I love oranges and that was one fruit I do not want to give up. I have not had a fill yet but hope I can eat them once I do. What about Mandrin Oranges?
-
When you have surgery they pump your stomach full of gas to expand the area so they have room to operate. It seems to settle and make alot of peoples shoulders ache. I used Gas-x chewables and it really helped. I also walked around the house and that made me feel better.

I think I might explode!!
ForwardLeap replied to mindylouhoo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used chewable GAS-X and it worked great. I felt so miserable. Walking also helped but I would go to the Dr. -
that pain you get when you dont chew enough...
ForwardLeap replied to smed's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Now I am worried, I am now able to eat real food, no fill yet, and I eat what I want. Salads, stirfry, sandwhich, fish what ever. I have always had a very healthy appetite and am eating less but now I am worried I could stretch my pouch. How much did your dr. say you should be eating? -
Post Op Clear Liquids How can you heal?
ForwardLeap replied to 2band2008's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow I am jealous that you only had to be on liquids 1 week! I was banded on Christmas eve, and had to stay on liquids (full) until Jan 10 then 2 weeks of pureed food! But I did drink protien drinks and even bought the water with protien and the additional protien did help with the hunger. Best of luck! -
I have not had a fill yet but find it interesting your Dr had you eat. Mine makes you have liquids before the fill and then liquids for 2 days after the fill then 2 days of mushies. It is strange how different Dr.s have different quidelines!
-
Hi Lexi I had thought that you did not get real restriction until after you got your band filled. Did your Dr. fill your band some during surgery? You could just still be swollen from surgery and that is why your having problems? If it does not pass you might want to call the Dr. I can not wait to get a fill, as I can eat now and have no problem swallowing.

Small red blisters near post site - HELP!

Hi I developed a rash that hurt. I had some sort of reaction to the steri strips they used. I put cream on the rash and it eventually healed. -
Pls compare Lap Band surgery with Gall Bladder surgery
ForwardLeap replied to JillN's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi I had a hiatal hernia repaired at the same time, and I personally can not imagine having to sit at a desk for 8 hours a day. While I think I did really well, I could not wear my jeans as they placed the port where my waist band hits-and that hurt to have anything rub it or to bend. I know some people do fine, I just am glad I did not have to go to work. If your Dr. will give you the 2 weeks off, I would take it. You know your body, no need to put extra pressure on yourself. You also will need to make sure you get enough liquids---So I was running to the bathroom alot. Good luck with your surgery!
