    Angelnurse's Lower Body Lift

Thank you for sharing. I know I will be walking down the path and needing a Lower Body Lift myself. I think the more people share the more educated we are. I myself feel more comfortable if I have had time to prepare myself mentally for what It will really be like. So Thanks.... Christie

New CPT codes for Lap Band

I had BCBS of Kansas city -blue care and I had my approval within 1 week and surgery scheduled within 2 weeks. That being said our company changed insurance Jan 1 to BCBS traditional. (GM) I am not sure if they will pay for my fills now. So if any one else has GM BCBS traditional insurance and knows please let me know. Thanks Christie

Help: Pain in Throat, Chest and Back

I would go to the Dr. Do you have your gallbladder still? I had similar symptoms like that. My ultrasound showed the gallbladder was fine, but when they did a test showing it working it actually was not working properly. Also if you have a hiatal hernia this can cause pain in chest, back and reflux which causes pain in the throat. I used pepcid over the counter chewables and it helped slightly with acid. Just sharing my experiences and once fixed I felt like a new person! Hope you feel better soon Christie

Banded 1 1/2 Years Back Pain & Breathing Issues

Hi -by the way I live in Kansas City also! Missouri side. I was just wondering if you have ever been told you have a hiatal hernia? The reason I ask is I had prior to band GERD it is where reflux scars your tract and makes swallowing hard. Sometimes you have to go in and have your tract stretched so you can swallow. I also had boughts on pnemonia that for some reason took many rounds of antibiotics and they could not clear it up-I still had all the wheezing..... Several years go by I am still struggling with wheezing, pains, ect...My husband was transfered to Kansas City so I got of course a new doctor. One morning I woke up with terrible sharp stabbing pains and could not catch my breath. DR said go to ER. I ended up being admitted-they thought I was having a heart attack-I was not. After a ton of test, even the ultra sound on my gallbladder came back good--DR ordered more test. One of those was a test that showed the gallbladder actually working. Mine was not-Alas one of the problems was brought to light. Dr. then ordered another Endoscopy which I had just had surgery 1 month prior (endoscopy done then) and was a little put out that I was having another 30 days apart. Again it showed a large hiatal hernia....but did they fix it? NO..crazy So when I went to the Surgeon for the lap band I insisted the hernia be repaired....I can not believe the difference NO MORE WHEEZING, no more heartburn, no more pains in my back (which felt like someone stabbing me with a knife!) I can breathe like a normal person. I do not feel what I termed snap crackle and pop (i felt this often when I would try to take a breath in-which is why I kept going to the doctor for years thinking it was my lungs; and it was hard to breathe! I felt like I could not expand my lung all the way) The surgeon told me he has performed hundreds of hernia repairs and mine was the largest he has ever seen. He said it was much worst once in there then the films showed him. It took a really long time to fix but I am soooo glad. You may want to ask about this--may not be your problem but after all the time I felt miserable I am glad someone finally investigated further. I share this because I was being treated for something I did not have! I also was being in a way pushed aside because a film did not tell all the story. My moto now is to be in charge-it is my body and I do not have to be miserable I just have to find a Dr who will listen and investigate. Also I am confused about being under 200 pounds and the lap band; I have heard many people that are at 130-150 that the band helped them get to that weight. Maybe it is the type of band you have? I hope you are able to feel better soon! Christie

    Hi Everyone

Did the person who told you that have a lap band? It has been my experience that often it is people who do not have a lap band that pass along info that is not accurate. My doctor said it is permenate; that being said he also said IF there would be a medical need or I just felt emotionally I could not handle the band it COULD be removed. But other then a medical reason why would I want to take out the tool that controls my eating and helps me maintain a healthy weight. There are alot of good websites that you can educate yourself on the lap band as well as great books. I would listen to what a surgeon who actually places and treats patients with lap bands say. Not someone who has no experience or knowledge of the lap band. Good luck on your journey! Christie

Baked Cakes and never dipped in!!

Hooray for you! Some may think it is crazy but I personally did the same thing. I had my band placed Christmas eve, and made my husband a Christmas dinner, and cooked like crazy for the next 2 weeks! I have no idea why I did-maybe living vicariously? But somehow through the process I got empowered! Sounds crazy I know, but it felt liberating to be around the food and me be in control: Not the food controlling me! Keep up the good work! Christie

    It's not working for me

I have found if I do not get enough protien, and H2O I just do not lose. Are you regular with your exercise? Maybe you should shake things up and do a different form of exercise? So sorry for the stall. Everyone goes through them. My doctor said that my band is a success if I lose 1-2 pounds ave. a week--You have had your band almost a year---52 x 1= 52 pounds should have been lost-- Your ahead of schedule. It is so hard to be patient with ourselves! It is good you are trying, but remember to give yourself a few pats on the back along the way for all you have accomplished! You can do this! Christie

    Soreness

I was banded Christmas eve, and my port area is still tender.
  16. I should have had my tubes tied--darn it! I had a hiatal hernia repaired that actually required 2 surgical procedures at the same time as I had the lap band replaced.
  17. Hi I also had a hernia repaired so my surgery was a little more extensive then just placing the band. But it took me almost 2 weeks to be able to lay flat on my back in bed. I tried, I would get down and could not move. The pain was awful, I just gave up and slept in a chair. But if your in a hotel, maybe the mattress is the culprit?

    Port Sites

Mine is above my belly button and slightly to the left about 5 inches. I did not get a choice, and am not thrilled with it being there. I had my band on Christmas eve and still can not wear anything but sweats. I tried to wear Jeans on Sat. and had to take them off after 3 hours. I hurt all day Sunday. My waist is lose in my jeans, so its not because they were to tight. The port incision is right where my waist band rubs. I wish I could have requested where it is placed.

    waking up after surgery

I do not even remember leaving the hospital. I remember a couple things the nurse said to me while I was laying on the bed, but was so sleepy I just could not wake all the way up. I am suprised they let me go home. I must have been sleeping with my eyes open! I do not remember the drive home which is almost an hour. I had surgery done early am and did not wake up until 5 pm. Crazy huh? I would rather be asleep then in pain!

    Will pills get stuck?

Isn't it funny how each doctor has different rules? My doctor said NO PILLS and I have been crushing my tiny BC Pill. YEK! I also worry about doing that-do not want any more kiddies!

    Port Incision Draing Blood

Wow, I would definately go back to the Dr. ASAP. I had a little bleeding when I first came home from the hosp. I think I must have rolled wrong in my sleep. But after the first night I did not have any more bleeding or oozing of any sort. By 10 days my strips were falling off, and while still tender to touch they were healing good. Have you been getting your incisions really wet? I would call your doctor in the AM
  22. Hi I was banded on Christmas Eve so we are pretty close in our journey! I had a very large hiatal hernia that slid all over the place. The surgeon actually had to do 2 surgical procedures to fix it. He said he had never seen such a large hernia, and he had fixed hundreds. Mine was repaired laproscopically when my band was placed. Before surgery, It was hard to breathe, I had sever reflux, and I actually was hospitalized in Oct. they thought I was having a heart attack but it was a combination of my hernia, and gallbladder. Are you having any difficulty breathing, or chest pains, or pains anywhere? If so I would go to the doctor and talk it over. I had actually had surgery for my GERD in September, and the surgeons did not repair the hernia. But I had a fall down some steps in October and I think it made things worse. I absolutely insisted that the hernia be repaired when I spoke to my surgeon about lap band. I stressed it was more important to me then even getting the lap band. If I could only get 1 surgery done it had to be the hernia repaired. That is how miserable I was. I had severe pains that would wake me up feeling like someone was stabbing me repeatedly. If the surgeon did not see it, and if you are not experiencing pain from it many doctors will not operate to fix a hernia. As the doctor who did surgery on me in Sept. would not repair my hernia. But it is always a good thing to discuss your concerns with your doctor. I am not a doctor, and just because I had surgery does not mean you will need surgery.

    Eating alot after surgery

Wow, its funny how every DR has different instuctions. I was still on liquids 10 days out! Here is why: The diet after a Lap-Band® is restricted for the first 6 weeks. The restriction is necessary to allow proper healing and scarring around the band to prevent band slippage or stomach prolapse, which may require surgery to correct. During this period you will be doing the opposite of what will be expected from after your first adjustment (when all the rules will begin to apply). The 6 weeks are split in half. During the first 3 weeks you are restricted to a liquid type of diet – “Straw Test Diet” or simply put – if you can drink it thru a medium straw it is allowed. During week 4 thru 6 you can advance to a puree/soft diet – “No Chew Test Diet” food that does not require chewing to swallow. After the 6th week your first adjustment may be performed. Remember the point of the first 6 weeks is to allow scarring around the band to form. To increase compliance during this period it is not necessary to further restrict your diet to low sugar/fat liquids or foods. It is more important to us that you stick with the “straw test” diet, and the “no chew test” diet, than it is to monitor calorie intake. Once adjustments start, you will be fully expected to comply with all the Rules (page one). You can read all the details at WWW.IABSOBESITYSURGERY.COM Just go to diet quides and there you will find the Lap Band guide.
