    January Surgery Dates!

I somewhat agree, Day 2 pain is really bad but I am thankful to the pain killers because they really are easing the pain. Still at the hospital and they're keeping them coming in rotation! Only drinking Water and a bit of apple juice a bit scared to have any soup/broth plus, not feeling hungry at all feel like I can live off water! Good luck to all upcoming procedures, it goes quickly!

    PRE-OP HELP!

    Officially post-op guys!
  4. Hi All, I am scheduled to have my operation in January and it has been a long journey! I have chosen to keep my surgery private from my family and "friends", with only my mum, aunt and best friend knowing. I feel my generation is really critical and judgemental, not to mention the way people change once you've changed for the better so, I feel this would certainly work best. I want advice on EVERYTHING! How have younger people coped post and pre-op? (Teens/Twenties - but we're all young so what the hell) Alcohol intake post-op? (We all deserve some fun!) Loose Skin (if you have or have not experienced any)? What you did to prevent this or what you recommend to avoid loose skin? How soon did you exercise? - I know it's recommended to do 30 mins. Walking post-op in the beginning, but how soon did you start resistance training? As I know this is best to stop excessive skin as well as Protein. What did you take to the hospital? I'm on the low cal pre-op diet for 2 weeks and start on the 30th - What did you do? Post-Op: what is recommended? food wise, mainly the first 2 weeks Please share your thoughts and experiences!
  5. Hi All, I am now officially post-Op!!! Surgery went smoothly, although I have no idea what happened lol. Nonetheless it went well. One thing I will say is nothing can truly make you prepare for this surgery, I still cannot believe it's over it's so surreal! Seeing as I was knocked out and had no idea I had knocked out (the joys of anaesthetic) It still hasn't really sunk in. I am still at the hospital, only drinking water, using my spirometer and trying to ease the pain. It's finally done! Officially beginning my new journey...

    Any January Surgeries?

My surgery is on the 13th too just realised 3days to go!
  9. Assuming you're on either a liquid/no-calories/low-calorie pre-op diet. That should be fine! I'm on a low-cal diet and they encourage unlimited veg but only two portions of fruit a day so veg is good and you're on the right track. Carbs are the min contributor to high glycogen in the liver so, minimising or eliminating over a period would most certainly shrink the liver and if you compare what you're having now to what you may have been prior, I'm sure it is a lot less so no worries. Also, some people don't even have pre-op diets and are only required to fast the night before only drinking Water, I may do this also depending but I do think I a, not to eat anything after a certain time. So don't stress on the pre-op, the worry is what makes it harder and I'll that matters is that you aim to follow it to a T! Good luck.
  10. You will be fine trust me! I had a thread on this cause I was doing bad and although our diets are different (I am allowed food with mine, which may sound easier but is just as complicated due to portion control), the change in diet is an adjustment but, as long as you are following it as much as you can it should be fine! The occasional lapse here or there is not unlikely but try to avoid it. And water helps to flush and cleanse!!!
  11. I kept mine between my mum, best friend and aunty. None if my siblings are aware and as I'm still pre-op and on my diet I think some have noticed I'm not eating as much as I usually do but it may have gone overlooked. My excuse for future reference if there rare any questions are simply to mention drastic changes and you'll most likely be fine because you have been dieting which is clearly noticeable and those changes make a big difference.

    PRE-OP HELP!

Hi Bagpuss, Very well done, it's only the beginning! I can only imagine how you're feeling it hasn't sunk in yet for me but you are hours away from it and that's amazing. Let me know how it goes and all the best!

    PRE-OP HELP!

Thank you all for the messages, I took the step to call the hospital and the dietician got back to me yesterday. She sort of explained I was pretty much following the diet, asked me any challenges I may have encountered and tips to avoid them. Also asked about the sugar and condiments to which she did say use sweetener instead of sugar and in regards to sauces if it's a small amount it won't make any difference but too much is no good. I briefly discussed my carb intake maybe being more than the recommended amount on some days and she just expressed to me that as tempting as it may be just stick it out for the 5 DAYS TO GO! Also, judging by my weight loss so far of 4-5 kg (between 8-11 lbs), that I was definitely doing something right. That definitely helped and aided in avoiding anything over the next 4 days, so I will be sticking it out to a T!

    PRE-OP HELP!

Hi Bagpuss 5 days left you must be excited! I was thinking to do the same also, having looked at the diet and tried over the last few days I think I'm going to start alternating my current diet with Soups, because I do not want to take in too much carbs overtime. I have some soups at home that are only about 40 kcal so I'm going to try that tomorrow for lunch and dinner. Also it is strange how the diets differ in length also, but with the mistakes I have made being that it's Christmas period and I haven't been able to have any direct guidance I do think the two weeks may have worked out in my favour as the mistakes I may have made can be corrected for the next week and 2 days. I also think it works more so with curbing hunger afterwards, some forums talk about people sharing accounts of not following the diet and being ok (I have not read this personally though) an would never try that! This journey has been wayyyy to long to allow my errors now. I'm having mine at St Mary's in Paddington, how about you? Is it private?

    PRE-OP HELP!

That is a lot, I will try and call them tomorrow only issue is as I'm having it on our National Health Service, there i don't have a direct number for the nutritionist or dietician which is who I would need, the last time I called to try and have an appointment scheduled was a nightmare but I will attempt nonetheless, to make sure I am doing everything ok. It's good that you're ahead I think that is vital and once you get to this pre-op stage it won't be hard. I also think it prepares you for life afterward which makes perfect sense. Day 5 today and so far so good, weighed myself and my start weight before the pre-op was 152.3 and today 148.2. I am somewhat becoming scale obsessed which is so bad! But seeing the weight drop is such a change for me it's surprising and sort of a reminder that I must be doing something ok.

    PRE-OP HELP!

My surgery is on the 13th Jan. The diet Involves me consuming 800-1000 Kcal a day, the main issue I had was the restrictions weren't as clear, so for example it does not explicitly say I cannot have condiments (ketchup, Mayo, etc) or that I am not allowed sugar so, that's where it is a bit baffling - but I just felt it necessary to minimise sugar and now I am avoiding eating anything where I am used to adding sugar: Cereal, tea, etc. However, to be safe It says I have an allowance of unlimited low calories squash and fizzy drinks, tea, Water, coffee, but I've only been drinking water, had tea twice and will be drinking herbal tea, but strictly water just to be safe and I don't drink fizzy drinks. So yh, I have been fretting but it's only hard when I see other people eating but when I'm home alone for most of the day, I am only cooking what I need (when I have to cook) and that's helping me curb it. I would say the hardest part of this is the temptation when others are eating around you, besides that it's surprising how small amounts of food throughout the day keep you going.

    PRE-OP HELP!

That was my main fear the sugar amongst other things in ketchup, but definitely will not be continuing with that ruling it out completely. Despite the temptations, looking at the bigger picture it's just not worth it

@ninamarie @ that's different maybe it depends on weight, because I do know some people I have met are on a pre-op diet for up to 4 WEEKS! January Surgery Dates!

@@dayciavu Well done on keeping up with it. Mine is pretty much the same gives me a set of what I can't eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as snacks, very low carbs. A liquid diet would be very extreme! I would find it very hard, but excited for a better lifestyle. Officially starting tomorrow I think the first few days may be easiest as I have done various crash diets but cannot guarantee anything.
