My surgery is on May 24th. I will have a 2 week pre-op liver reduction diet. I am excited but nervous. I have only today a few people, most of which have been amazingly supportive and understanding. I can't wait to officially be on the losers bench!

I'm having surgery in May. I am currently a student at a conservatory. I haven't really heard anything about waiting (I play euphonium), but it makes sense so you don't put to much pressure on the wounds as they are healing.

My tentative date is May 24!! It's insane! I can't believe this is actually happening, I'm so excited!

Yeah me neither. The hard part for me it going to be just figuring out what to tell people. I don't want to tell them I am having surgery, cause is none of their business, but when the ask me how I'm losing weight I need to have an answer ready. Oh yeah and I am in college.

I'm 19. I am planning to have bypass around mid May.

Just do your research. I am having the bypass because of the amount I need to loose, and also I have slight acid reflux that I wouldn't want to get worse from surgery. It all depends on you. See what your surgeon recommends.

I totally agree with you. My BMI is 59 and I never really realized how big I was until about a year ago. But we have to chance to get healthier so hoorah!! We are making steps in the right direction!

Mine was really short. Maybe took 25 minutes total. I had a huge 300 question survey in the beginning, which is why they may have scheduled it for so long!

I am currently 19 years old. Many people feel that I am to young to understand the risks and responsibility of having this surgery. As a little bit of background I have been overweight as long as I can remember. When I was 10 my mother started me on my first diet program. I have been on countless programs that just haven't worked for me. I would just like some opinion on the topic of my age. What do you think?

If feel like people say they understand what it's like being overweight but you don't really understand if you haven't experienced. Many of my friends, who are much lighter that me, say that I am too sensitive and that they know what it is like to be as big as I am and all the struggles that come with it. I am having really bad anxiety lately and people don't understand that it is my self-consciousness. How do you deal with people who think they have an understanding of being 330 pounds (5'2"). It is much different than people think.

To clarify, my mother was at first terrified at the idea of me getting surgery. Totally against it. But, I showed her all my research and all my reasoning for it and she eventually opened up to the idea. She understands that I know all of the risks and responsibilities of this surgery. Of course I want to please my mother, but this time this is for me, and me alone.

Thank you everyone for the advice and comments. I have been doing a ton of research and I do think WLS is the best choice for me. I believe that I can commit to the changes necessary for this to work. I want to be able to enjoy my life and be healthy while doing so.

I am currently at college but am from Buffalo. I am planning on having my surgery in May. I would love to join a support group as well!

I know that it shouldn't matter what others think and I am usually more confident and comfortable with myself that this, but it's just when my best friend is like that it's upsetting. It matters because I value her opinion. I don't hold it against anyone for not understanding, but when people continuously say that they know what it's like and they understand it just is a bit annoying. Thank you for all you advice, I am feeling better about it.
