I tend to have really vivid dreams when I'm doing something life changing. WIth the nicotine stuff, and quitting aids I've had some seriously amazing unconscious acid trips. Full surround sound, in color, even tactile sensation, some even lucid dreams. One night I spent riding motorcycles through country lanes next to hedgerows in england and ridiculous rates of speed. That was absolutely amazing. And then you have a nightmare that's just as vivid. On one hand it's really cool just what your brain can come up with. On the other it's really creepy to think about your subconscious talking to you through a door while it's in werewolf shape telling you how it's going to chew your intestines.

I have to go through things like this in a process. 1. Polite, with definite go away context. 2. Grunting to acknowledge they are speaking. 3. Snark. 4. Telling them to go piss up a rope. 5. Superglue their butt shut.

What, specifically, caused you to become obese?

I vividly remember the first time I asked for food when I wasn't hungry. I was 6. We had just gotten back from my grandfathers funeral. I asked for a bologna sammich. tasted good. Felt better. Hey if it works for that... it should smack boredom right in the chops eh? -
I have a peeve. And it helps me be self destructive. When I'm doing something healthy for myself and someone looks at me seriously and tells me to do A. B. C. when I just finished telling them that I'm doing A. B. C.... I want to hold them down and pee on them. Then go have a pizza. Made of brownies. Does that just irk anyone else?

400+ pounds?
RoscoColetrain replied to shannonlarson209's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in that club :/. At first I was pretty much dead set on the bypass and not the sleeve. I was slowly convinced by all the success stories. -
14 days out for my sleeve. One last PCP visit for blood work/chest xrays/poking and prodding. Saw the surgeon monday, and the anesthesiologist tuesday. anesthesia lady gave me a lot of information. What to expect right before surgery, in the room, how the anesthesia process would work, recovery, first hours post op. Gave me the living will paperwork if I want to fill it out. Feel very comfy with the place, procedure, surgeon, and myself doing fine with it. Now that's an interesting question to me. I had a heart attack at 19. (weird narrow artery that sort of shed it's skin, not the classic veins filled with crisco symptoms) The omg I'm gonna fall over and die paranoia from that has helped get me in the shape I am now. I did it by myself, but I leaned on that crutch. So I'm probably at juuuuust a tad higher risk than most people. So.... to set one up or not. I know I don't want to come out with severe brain trauma. But living is good and I want you to get the jumper cables if I develop a miss halfway through. Opinions?

2 weeks out

Heh do you also get tired of the techs running the EKG freaking out, then you having to explain the whole dang thing.. That's my conundrum. I know I may pop off. Snuff it. Pine for the fjords. That's acceptable. Scary and worrying, but acceptable. It's the thought of having no oxy to the grey matter for an extended period of time and coming out with decreased mental capacity, or being hooked to 45 machines to keep my body alive. -
I personally tend to go for whatever answer is the craziest i can think of when i get pushed and pestered too much. 450,000 micrograms.

Heya. I mean the low fat/low carb diet that they want done for the pre-op. The "consider losing 5-10lbs" thing. So I've been hitting the greenery hard. Nothing fried, no breads, very lean meats, no condiments. and I'm chopping the portions down as much as I can. To me that generally winds up with a kind of bland product. I've been trying to combat it with lots of spices. I've come up with a sort of stir fry.... thing.... that tastes vaguely mexican. -
Pre-op diet, mini victory

I started mine early. I may stop on the way home and gnaw an oak tree. -

I suppose that if there is such a thing, I'm a chatoicist. I like the idea of a brownie pizza. I don't want to eat it. But I'd like to see the attempt???? I can handle one dose of the non listening. I know a few people that just keep not listening and spooling off the same thing 5-6 seconds after not listening. It drives me mad. -

Yep, I know people that live on the scale. It would drive me insane. That constant checking and calculating and worrying makes my corneas itch. I'm fairly used to goofy questions. Riding a motorcycle will get you squarely in that same class of dumb comments. *take riding gear off, shake the rain off. Did you ride today? *cue look like they're a golden retriever being teased with a tennis ball. Nope, elephant carried me in with his trunk. For the most part I have fun with it. When it's the same stuff from the same person over and over I begin to become more of the typical grumpy IT troll in the basement though. -

exercise after surgery, what did you start with?
RoscoColetrain replied to Amanda Elder's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I too am a Water rat. I have all the grace of a sheet of plywood in a hurricane when walking and running. I can do it... but it just feels 17 kinds of clumsy and just plain hurts everything I've got in a very short period of time. -

As an example. I'm starting to go my pre-op low carb, low fat, low taste diet. I say to my mother... I'm doin yadda yadda. It's hard but I'm doing it. Mom replies: Well what you should do is eat low carb, low fat, low taste. I'm already doing that. Well you've got to do it anyway. Try harder. repeat this a dozen times or so, then progress to. What are you doing on the computer? Looking for a sale on wood chippers. -
Now I understand why we dont tell people we are getting the sleeve...
RoscoColetrain replied to Scottyd1264's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've got the stereotypical gossipy ol biddy at work. Sticks her nose in everything. Pries for every detail she can get. Will come into your office and start picking stuff up off your desk and fiddling with it. Told whoever was around that I was having surgery pretty much. She gets wind that I'm having something done. So far I've told her that I'm having a foot removed, eye surgery to make one purple, hair transplants, an ear tuck, and a tongue extension. I take great pleasure in poking those kind of people with a stick. -

Hey all, Names will. Nice to meet ya. Man where to start. Live in south/central wv. Beckley in particular if you're a neighbor. Surgery is scheduled for 1/28 at johns hopkins. And I'm a self pay due to a ridiculous insurance company. Got one final PCP visit for bloodwork, last ekg, etc etc. Last visit in the surgeons office, anesthesiology, then it's sleeve day. Already had to get cardiac clearance and a stress test. Had a (birth defect related) heart attack when I was 19. So I always manage to scare the newbie they send into to plug me into those things. Which is hilarious in a macabre sort of way. I'm pretty tired of explaining it to every white coat I come across though. Started my (latest) process around june. Been a lot of miles and trips to and fro this summer. I'm an IT nerd, so luckily I can do 99% of my job from MD. Taking an tentative 4 weeks off to stay with relatives up there for follow up visits. And by off I mean I'll fix printers from up there instead of down here. Only thing I lack is an "official" support group I can attend. Anyone in my general area know of any? Have a nice one all!
