Hi Friends-I'm 5 days post op and a little concerned that I am drinking too fast. I think I am ok with protein shakes. It takes me about 1 hour to finish one 11oz bottle (pure or premier). But when it comes to warm liquids I can get them down pretty quickly. Looking back at my food journal I have been having 16oz of broth for lunch (30-60min). And tonight I just sipped away 16oz of tea in 20 minutes. Is this too much fluid at once? Am I stretching my sleeve? Sipping has gotten easier each day and today was the first day I didn't have spasms while sipping so I just kept going. Any ideas/advice would be great!!!

I found out today that I have been approved for bariatric surgery!!!! I have been calling the Anthem pre-authorization line to check on my status for the last 4 days and I finally received clearance today. Hip hip hooray!!!! They confirmed that they received my paperwork on 1/26 so the review took about 6 business days. I just wanted to write a post because I, like many others, struggled with understanding the 6 month weight loss requirements in my policy. Basically the policy states you have to have 6 months of documented weight loss attempts in the previous 2 years. I am 5'4, 260 lbs w/ a BMI of 44 (also a 33 y/o female). When I visited my doctor (Dr. Jossart in San Francisco) I provided him an chronological outline of my past diets (Atkins, Paleo, HCG, Weight Watchers) and exercise efforts (half-marathon, Cross-fit, personal training, boot camps). None of these activities were medically supervised. Although I do not have any comorbidities, we also went through all of my various ailments (depression, joint pain, plantar fasciitis, rashes, etc.). I am not 100% sure what he wrote in my referral, but it worked!! All I can say is: there are no guarantees, but have faith in your surgeon! 12/18 - first contact w/ doctor's office - scheduled consult 12/27 - psych evaluation ( I got a head start due to the long lead time for my apt) 01/22 - bariatric surgeon and nutritionist consultation 01/26 - Insurance received paperwork 02/02 - Insurance approval TBD - surgery date Good Luck!!!!

Happy 2 week surgiversary everyone!!! I'm doing pretty well. Down 16lbs since surgery day. My post op appointment is this Friday and I'm going to try and convince my doc to let me start working out. I have a few more weeks before I go back to work and want to maximize this time. What was everyone's first "meal"? I had a poached egg over some marinara and a little cheese this morning. Delish!!!! My eyes are still bigger than my stomach so slow eating is the name of the game right now. I need to take a picture of my fridge bc I have one whole shelf of Jello, marinara, cottage cheese and greek yogurt lined up in little 2oz plastic containers. How often is everyone weighing themselves? Did anyone take their measurements before surgery? I've been weighing myself everyday but I think I need to move to once a week so I don't go crazy if I start to stall. I took my measurements but have already decided to only check once a month. Hope everyone is feeling well!!!

Week 1 - Am I drinking too much too fast?
newmeme replied to newmeme's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks everyone for the encouraging words!!! This made me feel a lot better and less paranoid!!! ???? -
I'm down 8lbs first week and doing much better. I really only get a spasm:pain if my sip is a little too big. It takes me an 45-60 min to drink Protein shakes and decaf lattes. Teas and broth go down fast 15-30min. I bought a 50 oz Water bottle and sip that through the day. I make sure I finish it before bed. Flavor packets have really helped me get it down. I live next to a lake so I've been walking 3 miles slowly every morning. My energy is still low so I usually have to take a nap by midday due to exhaustion. Since I'm never really hungry, I'm working on setting aside time to eat meals slowly and get in my protein. I did cheat last night and had some free popcorn at a movie theater( I lost the mind over matter battle). I asked for 1/2 of a kids size and chewed small bite fills until it was mushy. It tasted delicious but I know it was a bad choice. So I'll be sticking to liquids for one more week. @galleygal-do you have anti nausea and spasm medication? It really helped me to take it a little before meals. The spasms will get better. Just keep your sips really small.

How are you feeling since you've been home? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I'm feeling much better thanks! I didn't need the pain and cramping meds today. Energy levels go up and down and I'm still really bloated-but I'll take it!!???? My post-op is on the 18th.

I was sleeved on 3/2 as well. I'm still at the hospital but I am being discharged this afternoon. I had a lot of trouble with gas for the last two days but I am feeling much better now. I'm slowly sipping broth, water and jello but I start to cramp easily. Popsicles are my easiest at the moment. I'm concerned about getting enough fluids without an IV, but I'm going to just keep sipping away!!!

Hi folks. I had my surgery this morning and have been in pain ever since. My incisions do not hurt. Rather it is the pain from the gas in my stomach cavity. How have you all dealt with this? How long did the pain last? I've been given reflux, gas pills and pain medication throughout the day. I've also been using the gas-x strips. The pain is less acute now, but not going away. Please help!!

3/2/16 Surgery Date - San Francisco
newmeme replied to newmeme's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@jamielogical-my doctor does not prescribe a pre-op diet. But I was directed to lose 10lbs before surgery. I am following a paleo diet right now and will switch to a liquid/paleo dinner diet for the last two weeks. I'm hoping this combination will do the trick. @sullylab5-don't worry! I experienced all of the same emotions too!! I am a semi-secret sleever so very few people in my life know what I am going through right now. But those that do are very supportive. I hope you have the same-lean on them. We are taking back our lives. Let's enjoy this crazy ride!!! -

Hello Friends. I am a long-time follower of the site and want to first start off by thanking all of you for your posts and insights. Here's my deal: After months of consideration and internet research, I pulled the trigger and went to a seminar here in the Bay Area for a local doctor. Due to the holidays, I cannot get in to see him until Jan 22 for a first appointment. I have a BMI of 44.1 and my insurance does cover the surgery (Anthem PPO - $3500 out of pocket). However, given all the research I've done, I would be lucky if I got a surgery date in early March if I met all of the requirements. On the other hand, I am totally open to going to Tijuana for surgery. I am in contact with both Dr. Garcia and Dr. Kelly's offices and could get sleeved as early as the first week of January. The price difference would be ~$1000 plus I will have to coordinate aftercare w/ my PCP. I am 100% sure that this is the right thing for me after being obese for the last 21 years, but now I am getting antsy. I'm home alone for the holidays so I think this would be the perfect time to do my 2-week pre-surgery diet. What do you guys think? Should I go for it or am I being too hasty?
