I agree with the not lying part, but I disagree with the likelihood of people figuring it out. I am 3+ years out, 112lbs down and no one that I did not choose to tell knows more than the fact that I eat a diet much like atkins and I move my a$$ a lot. Only one person asked me out right if I had WLS and my response was simply, "What a personal question! You probably did not intend to be nearly as rude as you came across." My tone clearly invited no further discussion and no further discussion occurred. If I were to tell people I was having a procedure and they asked what kind, I would simply tell them it was very personal. Nothing else needs to be said. But I never told people that part, either. I agree 100% with this. I have only told my husband and 3 besties. My parents and extended family (9 hours away) have no clue. My young children have no clue! I work virtually and only told them I was having surgery. No one asked what it was for. Very professional people who know the law and know it is ILLEGAL to ask!!!!!! People do you know that your boss can't ask and has NO legal right to know that kind of detail???? Actually it is in their best not to know!!!! All that detail was handled by HR and they can't tell. Socially No one has asked me directly about WLS. I would have no issue shutting them down if they do. People see I eat clean, drink less and exercise more. I was a lower BMI (42) to start and haven't always been heavy. So I don't think my weight loss is very surprising for people who have known me a long time. Actually this not the first time I have had a dramatic transformation. It will be the last time . Sure people are prob wondering when will she regain???? But they are not the least bit surprised I lost weight. I get questions like ... Are you doing WW or south beach??? WLS is not even on their mind. I even told some I am on medical supervised diet and they still don't conclude WLS. So it is your choice and right to maintain your privacy if you want. Also fine to tell. No lying required because telling them nicely it is none of their business is acceptable response.

Ketosis and diabetic ketoacidoses
ocgirl15 replied to Butterflywarrior's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They are different but I would not pursue a ketosis type diet if your diabetic unless instructed to do so by a medical professional who knows you have diabetes. Here is an article that explains the difference. http://www.healthline.com/health/ketosis-vs-ketoacidosis -
Love the cheek bones!! Congrats!

9 months post op and it still happens but less often than immediately post op. When it happens I am usually eating appropriate things so I don't know any way to stop it. Also I can eat the same thing and 1 time my stomach will make noises and 1 time it won't. Weird!

Does VSG typically increase heartburn
ocgirl15 replied to krissyleigh's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Mine is about the same. I took Prevacid for years before surgery and still do. They did do a test to make sure I didn't have a hernia to qualify for the sleeve. As long as I don't to much or too fast or eat super spicey food I am fine. -
Fresh juice suggestion please
ocgirl15 replied to bubblegirl96's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I could have sugar free Powerade or Gatorade but no fruit juice at any stage..... My NUT thinks fruit juice is sugar laden empty calories and I was told to avoid it forever. Her #1 rule was do not drink your calories except for protein drinks when on pre post surgical liquid diet. Thats my plan but ALL plans are very different. I am not saying that's what everyone should do but it works for me ; ) -
Swan song—goodbye, and thank you.

You did your research and best of luck to you! You know you are always welcome back! -
I was lactose intolerant before surgery. Still lactose intolerant. Many become lactose intolerant for awhile after surgery. I found Isopure was the easiest to tolerate. Mixing shakes fairlife milk (if the powder is also lactose free) was also great. Lactaid milk is too high in sugar.

I do all of the above, order an appetizer, side dish ala carte, share entree with the hubby, get a kids meal if there is a healthy option (Carrabbas kids grilled chicken with vegetable of the day.... Yummy and only 6.99!!!). Sometimes I want the full entree (soup and sides go home and most of entree) and that's ok to. Most of the time do spend much less money than Before so I have no problem getting an expensive meal once in awhile. I do always avoid bread, fries and pasta.

I am more of a light weight than before. I think there is a lot going on that causes this. 1) I weigh 85 lbs less. 2) instead coating my stomach with a large carb laden meal (fries, bread, pizza) I always drink on an empty stomach now. I cannot drink and eat the same time. That makes a huge difference. 3) my stomach is anatomically different and that probably contributes. So I drink much less and less often. But when I do it is nice spending less money!!!

Every insurance is different and I have heard it go both ways. My was beginning BMI which was 42. I think I was 38 the day of surgery. Lost a lot with the 2 week liver shrink diet.

Help! What did you bring?
ocgirl15 replied to hernewselfie's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Most of what brought didn't get used.... But a phone charger is critical. If I could do it again I would bring my own pillow. Also bring your baggiest cloths to go home in. Extra roomy sweats. The swelling and IV fluid will bloat you and you don't want anything tight on the ride home. -

Life Insurance... Any success getting a good rate since WLS?
ocgirl15 replied to ocgirl15's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Same here.... It has been my motivation for 7 years. I actually bring in over half the income. Still close to 50/50 but tips in my favor. Loss of my income would really hurt my family. -
Life Insurance... Any success getting a good rate since WLS?
ocgirl15 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Background I tried to get life insurance when my son was born 7 years ago. I was in my 30s overweight and on many medications. Needless to say the rate was terrible and I passed. Now I am in my 40s and normal BMI with no HBP, no issues with cholesterol and really only taking prevacid.and allege meds. So has weighing less help anyone? I am the picture of health but assume my medical history and age could hurt me still. Let me know what your experience has been. -
It absolutely makes NO freaking sense to me... **MY RANT**
ocgirl15 replied to LipstickLady's topic in Rants & Raves
Shocking @@Lipstick you start a thread in the "Rant and Rave" and you are accused of drama.... Why are people who hate drama reading the rant and raves in the first place ??? Isn't this what it is for? When they saw you started it why did they not stop reading immediately? Nope they couldn't stop themselves they had to read it.... And comment??? -

ocgirl15 replied to LipstickLady's topic in Rants & Raves
@@Lipstick I have learned so much from you on this journey and though I am not vocal myself you daily give wise advice! Same goes for many of the vets. I am frankly tired of everyone that picks on the vets! It is getting ridiculous! Then they Accuse them of being bullies when they give sound advice. Keep doing what your doing and ignore the haters! -
Anyone have BCBS of IL but live in Virginia?
ocgirl15 replied to goaldigger33's topic in Insurance & Financing
I was BCBSIL but lived in MD and was told the same thing. BCBS MD did require 6 months but BCBSIL did not. I was right they were wrong. I did the 6 month program to humor them. I wasn't in a hurry. I could have fought it and you should if it is important to get the surgery quickly. -
WLS with Fibromyalgia and Arthritis of Unknown Origin
ocgirl15 replied to JenniferVSG2011's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have autoimmune thyroid issues (hashimotos) and psoriasis. I am 9 months out psoriasis is very mild now. Just a little patch on my scalp... I don't like putting stuff my scalp so that is without medication. It use to cover all 4 limbs and was considered severe. I only use a topical foam 2-3 times a week now and use to take Ortezla orally... It made sick as a dog. My fibromyalgia is almost nonexistent and I am off cymbalta (And many more Rx's as well). I don't think autoimmune can be cured but WLS has made it 95% better. But why? Was it weightloss alone? Low carb/ low sugar diet? No NSAIDs. And old Rx was making it worse? I don't know. I do know I am 99% gluten free. My NUT allows whole grain In appropriate quantities in maintenance but I have chosen not to bring them back. I gut tells me it is the gluten. I really think there is something to diet and autoimmune connection. I don't think I would have realized that without WLS. And maybe giving up dairy or soy would work for someone else. Dairy is my main protein source and I am clear while eating. I lost weight on medifast which high soy and had the worst psoriasis flare of my life so I know it is more than just weight loss. -
Ketosis - How safe is it?
ocgirl15 replied to IveGotThePower's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I would talk to your doctor to make sure it is safe for you. For most it is very safe but there are exceptions to that and only your doctor knows your underlying health conditions. Assuming it is safe it worked wonders for me. I got to goal weight in about 7 months. I am no longer in ketosis but most of my carbs are veggies, fruit and some potatoes. No wheat sugar or rice. I still keep my carb lower than the average person and protein first. Beating the carb addiction has changed my life! -
Negative comments - not "fat enough"?
ocgirl15 replied to Jim Paulette's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hate this opinion! I was 42 BMI when started my process and 38 the day of surgery. Insurance paid for it 100% (I had meet my deductible of course). I was fat enough for insurance and your fat enough....but not for long! Your going enjoy wearing your skinny jeans around them!!!
