Most of us can't force our families to follow our new diet pre-op or post-op. All my former favorites are just a walk to my kitchen. Snack cakes, cookies, candy, you name it. It is not realistic to ask that of them and our being morbidly obese is not their fault. I have two small kids and a husband that doesn't cook much. Every day both pre op and post op was temptation. I am talking pizza, hamburgers, spaghetti, hotdogs and take out from my favorite restaurants. I was sleeved before Christmas. I baked cookies with my kids i couldn't touch. Made Christmas dinner, I do mean delicious favorites that I couldn't touch. Don't expect people to conform to you. You have to adapt physically and mentally. I will say dealing with temptation is so much easier after surgery. I bought a pizza for my family last night that I didn't eat. I am free to eat or try anything as of yesterday but that pizza no longer appeals to me. This surgery is hard work regardless of some saying it is an easy way out. But it is so worth it!

Your beautiful! Keep on venting! Most of the comments were very bad taste. I had gotten a couple myself. Sad thing negative comments seem to come from other obese people. Like "was your husband ok with you getting surgery"? My reply was "he hasn't said anything negative yet. But I didn't ask him his opinion either". I am only 5 weeks post op today and going sled riding w our kids. Why would he want the unhealthy, less active, less fun version of me back. Neither of us are missing her! This surgery was good for our marriage.

My doctor's office doesn't have an official stance other than they realize some patients eventually will. My NUT said please wait at least 6 weeks for the stomach to heal. I plan to avoid it longer than that. I am 5 weeks and still struggling to get everything I need.

Pain/Discomfort/Recovery: C-Section vs. Gastric Sleeve?
ocgirl15 replied to AmyQwith2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Both of my c-sections were worse than sleeve. Less pain with sleeve and no midnight feelings. My c-section scare still annoys me after 6 years! -
My dr allowed it 2 weeks post op. Yes two weeks! But it always has gotten my reflux going so haven't tried it. I haven't had coffee or Diet Coke I about 7 weeks. Not sure when and if I will.

Do i qualify for the surgery ?
ocgirl15 replied to jessicasantana28's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It will all depend on your insurance. I was 5 ft and 213 (40 or 41 BMI) and was approved. I didn't have any obvious co-morbidities by insurance standards. Find out your insurance criteria and program requirements. Good luck. 5 weeks out and I already have more energy for my kids! -

Wow great job! -
I totally agree If you have PCOS hormone based birth control improves (actually mask) symptoms. You might feel a little better.

Hi I have PCOS and use nuvaring. It is a little more convenient than the pill and seems to cause less side effects compared to some of the pills I have tried. Best advice is to ask your gyno! Good luck!

Revision from Band - Surgeon wants sleeve, I want bypass!
ocgirl15 replied to Taunter's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
You are right to question and research! My surgeon is like yours.... Loves the sleeve. And that was fine for me with a lower BMI and no co-morbities (at least that insurance recognizes). But my support group friends with mult co-morbidities and much higher BMIs are also getting it. He gave them the "choice". If I was you I would be asking the same questions. Maybe get an opinion from another surgeon. I think it is awesome you are being an advocate for your health! Too many blindly think doctors are all knowing Gods! -
Yes I have!!! I was sleeved 12/14 and wanted to go back to work 12/28....I work in IT and thinking clearly is essential. My body was ok with the idea but my brain said "I don't think so."! On 12/29 was the post op visit which is also the day I was to begin the bariatric multi vitamins. The doc said the fogginess was common and probably a vitamin deficiency. Think he said "b" in particular. But I did have fog brain and I might be remembering wrong. Starting the vitamins plus purées lifted the fog and increased my energy. It will get better! I am 3 weeks now and the low energy and brain fog are gone!

Who do you want to be after?
ocgirl15 replied to Nurse_Lenora's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I live at the beach with 2 young children. So wearing a swim suit was a every weekend nightmare! I want to just feel comfortable in a Swimsuit and stop dreading summer. I want to be the mom that enjoys and looks forward to the beach. I also want to fit in any amusement ride seat. -

Parents of young children - what are you telling your kids about surgery?
ocgirl15 replied to walkinggirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My kids are 5 and 8 and I knew that they could NOT handle the idea or visual of most of their moms stomach being removed. So I used their grandfather's recent hernia repair as an example. Paraphrase, "Just like Pop I am getting stomach surgery and it will help me feel better in the long run. It is not dangerous and I will probably be home in a day". They visited me at the hospital Monday night (surgery day). I was home before they came home from school on Tuesday. My husband got them on the bus Wednesday morning and he went to work. After that I got them on and off the bus and took care of myself 100%. My explanation for my diet. "The dr wants me to eat this way I guess my stomach not ready for regular food yet." Since I am keeping it private I plan to say I had hernia repair if they spill the beans. But haven't needed to do that in 3 weeks. -
Former HR person and they do need that information but are required to keep confidential.
