Congrats! Think about Niagra falls!
-
I tried this maybe two months out since it was low cal and it was too acidic and Ibcouldn't tolerate it. I wouldn't try until you are cleared for full foods but that is my opinion and my experience.... Ugh I am getting heartburn just looking at the picture.

I don't want to offend anyone or be overly negative. But I have some questions (aspire users this is your opportunity to educate me) and some opinions as well. First, most of us are RNY, VSG, lapband. These surgeries force us in the short term relearn how we eat and many of us use therapy long term to deal with what makes us overeat or binge eating. Please someone describe how this device changes you mentally? Only those who make the mental shift are successful long term. Also do you have a Nut and will that be a standard of care .... Without restriction how are you learning better eating habits? What happens when the device is removed? Many many on this board have lapband removed and usually gain their weight back. What is the rate of regain after it is removed? What do the 5 and 10 year studies show? Finally my opinions. It will be hard for traditional WLS patients to get excited about this after seeing what our lapband sisters and brothers have been through. FDA approval does not impress us. Time and success will! Finally be please aware that is does gross us out the thought seeing stomach contents and if we are feeling this way the general public is going to be even more shocked and grossed out. All WLS patients need a thick skin.... And aspire patients may need to be thicker than most.

If I were in your situation I would go with 1 incision if insurance was paying but as self pay no way. It is not worth 3k believe me!

FDA finally approves AspireAssist
ocgirl15 replied to JennyJennJen's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I don't want to be negative but I am skeptical. It is not always easy being a WLS patient. We all know that! The general public is uneducated and very negative towards us. So please don't take my comments as personal to any one aspire patient. It must be tough knowing people that re-routed their intestines and had 80% of their stomachs removed are not rejoicing the FDAs approval of aspire. But we are seeing this journey from the other side, we have done our research and are living this journey. We know RNY and VSG are tools and only ones with long term success made a mental change, got therapy for binge eating, truly learned new eating habits. So first question how is this changing you mentally and making you relearn how to eat? Do you see therapists and NUTs and if you do will that be the standard of care for everyone or just this study group. Second question, most lapband patients that have the device removed regain all their weight. Same with balloons patients. What happens when the aspire device is removed? Remember lapband patients did have NUTs and restriction to help them change their eating and still gain their weight back. So what will make this temporary device different? Third FDA has a long history of approving devices without long term success. Are you concerned about rejection and infection? I am 7 months post op and pass as a normal person in every way. I wear what ever I want, doesn't the port restrict you? Also what about restaurants and parties.... Do you go to the restroom and pump. I am curious how this impacts you socially. It at least has to be a little inconvenient? Finally I am not going to lie.... The thought of seeing stomach contents is going to be icky to a lot of people. Yes that does seem drastic to a person who had 80% of their stomach removed. Yes I am skeptical but in 5 years I hope aspire patients were right and I was wrong. Good luck and I hope someday we see you as trailblazers. -
I have tried this and OMG delish! The mushroom is about 26 calories so once your cleared for full foods it is bariatric friendly and so good. I think I like it more than regular pizza!

Stop the negativity! Post something that makes you giggle.

Great thread.... I am a walking dead fan so here goes! -
Well the first hurdle is recognizing you have an issue and you have done that! I made the mistake of having about 4 drinks in about 6 hours. I didn't black out or anything but was drunker than what I consider acceptable. Plus it put me into a stall. The easy fix is not to do that again. It doesn't matter if you have an issue with alcohol or peer pressure.... It's. dangerous! I hope you follow the plan and don't drink. Please be careful in Italy.... Blacking out in a foreign country doesn't sound like the a good idea.

I was a "super healthy" fat person until surgery changed my life. Was it worth it?
ocgirl15 replied to LipstickLady's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
@@LipstickLady All I can say is wow! You are such an inspiration and have been since I joined this board 7 months ago. Your story parallel mines in so many ways. You look hot and at least 10 years younger! -
I didn't need help either. I was alone while kids where at school and hubby was at work. So peaceful!
-
I am the same way.... Eat to fast and don't chew enough. Even your bad habits are an inspiration because you are still successful. I work on mindful eating every day and it my biggest challenge of this whole process. I actually think I get less calories because of this. The slower I eat the more I can eat which at 7 months would be a good thing. Your body needs fuel. I am going to keep working at it.

Anyone lost or need to loose 65-90lbs?
ocgirl15 replied to reachbree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am close too. Started at a 42 BMI, 5 1", 213 lbs. I am almost 7 months post op and have lost 76 lbs (includes preop diet). I am about 6 lbs from no longer being overweight. About 11 lbs from my personal goal. Got to my doctors goal weight probably by 4 months out. Most of my health issues are either cured or in remission. Maybe it was slow by WLS standards but I am fitting into some size 6's and loving life. Its hard to believe morbidly obese at Thanksgiving and now I look like a normal weight person. I had some skin especially my breasts... But it was damage from pregnancy not from being obese. Good luck to you! -

7 weeks Post-op FULL OF REGRETS

What does your surgeon say? Did they contact your surgeon when you were in the ER? If you haven't called your surgeon yet do it asap. You could have a stricture or something. This is not normal. -
Hey I have been lactose intolerant since I was 10 so that is about 36 years. My doctor warn me I might become lactose intolerant after surgery. I laughed and said I already am. Then asked if lactaid pills and lactaid milk were allowed. He said they are safe and I can continue to take them. Use chewables after surgery if you have issues swallowing pills. The caplets are crushable and don't taste bad either. I eat dairy at every meal. Yogurt and cheese are my protein stables. Fairlife milk is lactose free and has extra protein! Ask your doc about lactaid and enjoy your cheese. I just had a cheddar omelet and my next meal will Greek yogurt. Yummy!

I accidentally used a straw without thinking over the weekend and nothing bad happened. No gas pains or feeling of fullness. Nothing! I Am 6 months out. Straws are not my thing so I don't plan to make it a regular habit. But I think this is one of those rules that is just BS.

So I live at the beach... I know poor me! Well our tradition is to literally drive on with the 4x4, take some wood, start a fire grill dogs on a stick and that is our lunch. Of course there always some high carb potato salad and pasta salad and s'mores, cookies, chips, etc. Well I was sleeved last December and the old tradition does not fit in my new life. How would you change it up? Lean hotdog with no bun? Cheese sticks or yogurt in the cooler? Any tasty things I could grill on a stick and that are on the bariatric diet? Side note I am not dreading the bathing suit this year! Beach here I come!
-
Well I made a hobo pack with shrimp, turkey sausage and red potatoes with old bay. My hubby ate most of the potatoes but it was delicious!!! Thanks again for all the awesome ideas. It was a tasty beach day!

Please don't give up! My social life revolved around restaurants (bars too when I could get a sitter!) before surgery and yes things have changed dramatically since my VSG six months ago. But in many ways it hasn't. First, the pre-op diet was the hardest part. So know it will get easier. 2nd, you WILL need time to heal so you won't feel like making restaurants and frequent thing early on. But with that said there is something you can have at every stage if you want to still go, even just a glass of water during clear liquids. I go to a restaurant at least once a week sometimes more starting at 6 weeks. I never go off the Bariatric diet because there are options that will fit. My VSG has not ruined my social life at all. Last time I had an adult night out I danced! Haven't done that in years. So yes what I ordered has changed but I never had more fun. You can do this!

I got mine out before I left the hospital and was really scared about getting it out! It was not the least bit painful but it did feel weird! The gas pain was what I remember the most.
-
Oh my this is going to be a tasty weekend at the beach! Who needs hotdog?
-
Wow awesome ideas BP friends! I think after this weekend only the kiddos will want hotdogs! All the adults will enjoy these ideas! No sacrifice needed!
-
Great ideas... Shrimp kabobs!

Chocolate version is delicious!!! However after buying it realized peanut butter is a trigger for me!! Even PB2! Especially chocolate and peanut butter. If you can enjoy in moderation go for it!
