How long was your pre-op process?
sharonsjourney replied to SarahSleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my first appointment with surgeon on 1/7/16 and had surgery on 3/7/16. So in two months I completed a battery of tests, X-rays, evals, etc. but I was extremely driven to get things done quickly. Also I was lucky insurance did not require a lengthly supervised diet. One month post op and lost 24 lbs since surgery, so thrilled! -

Unfortunately I had the same issue! I had to have a sleep study. Usually sleep apnea is the key. -

Someone, anyone, give me some ideas to respond to a debbie downer when discussing my plans to have WLS. I am so over hearing negative remarks like "I know (or my sister knows) someone who had WLS and gained all their weight back and then some!" Or "Why would you do that to yourself." I wish I could just stay away from these DDs but I work with them. Please help! ????

What Did You Learn About Insurance? Share Your Wisdom!

I was surprised to find out that I have to pay all my co-pays, deductables and out of pocket expenses up front to the surgeon's office prior to surgery. The surgeon's office states because this is considered an elective surgery. I'm not sure if this is an insurance rule or surgeon's rule but good to know since my fee's will be several thousand dollars. yikes! -
Thank you all for your suggestions. I appreciate this forum, the support is incredible ????

I like the suggestions so far, I'm taking them all in so I'm ready for the next DD. Thanks ????

I had my appointment with the nutritionist today and was happy to learn my pre-op liquid diet is not all liquid! Yay! I was so nervous! I will have 2 protein shakes a day, 2 snacks and a protein and veggie dinner. I can't say I'm excited to get started but I am relieved! I hope this helps for anyone who was freaking out like me ????

What happens if?
sharonsjourney replied to OregonBarbie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First, make sure you account for your correct height. I thought I was 5'2"' but actually I am 5'2 & 3/4s. The 3/4 of an inch ruined my initial appointment with the surgeon. I had been working on getting my BMI up to 40 for insurance to cover the surgery without a co-morbidity; I went to the appointment with all the confidence in the world and was shocked I was falling under 5'3" height on the BMI chart. Oh yeah, forgot to say that also the scale in the office was 4 lbs less than mine at home. Now I have to go through a sleep study ugh! The nurse told me many people put rolled coins in their pockets if they are close to the 40 BMI and kind of recommended it. When I asked what would happen if I lost weight and fell under 40 before surgery she said it did not matter. If you are close, coins, ankle weights, do what you can to ensure a smooth first office visit.
