Starting liquid diet again
idahoteacher replied to donaboss's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks to you all for sharing! I was sleeved on December 11 and have lost (only!) 30 pounds, but 24% of my body fat which my Dr. says is great! I am 5'11 and currently 225 pounds. I'm down from a size 18 to a 14/15, but I feel like I am sliding backwards in my weight loss goal! I, too, have allowed myself to eat most everything, and I know I drink way to often! I never thought about going back to the liquid phase, but I am going to start that today! I am excited to continue reading the posts for suggestions and updates from my fellow sleevers!! -

Links to/Ideas for Regular Diet Menus?
idahoteacher posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been searching the web, and there are TONS of ideas out there for "regular" diet menu ideas....but I thought it'd be handy for me to have a collection of resources in our bariatricpal site! In a week or so, I'd be willing to gather up all inclusions and create ONE link of all of them in a curation site (a online collection tool--it's pretty cool!) that we could all easily access. Do you have resources you'd like to share? -

You poor thing! I am allergic to Sulfa (not penicillin--that's rough!) so I can imagine your struggle! Stay strong and stay positive! We can do this!!! -

I'm happy that you are loving your job! I taught for 26 years up until this fall....and wrote a spontaneous resignation letter! I've enjoyed the break! I just finished my second Masters degree this month and would love to find a remote position such as yours (my 2nd is a Masters of Educational Technology). Until the right position comes along, I have enough funds to continue to be content not "living by a school bell!)! I enjoyed reading your response! Thanks for sharing! -
I'm not sure if I'm doing this right... help needed

UGH! I hope I haven't stretched my sleeve....I wonder if there is a way to tell? If so, do you know if it will go back if I get strict with my diet? I'm seeing my doc on Tuesday so I will definitely ask those questions! I've only lost 12 lbs in 14 days post op and it bums me out when I hear people have lost more! But don't get me wrong, I'm SUPER excited for your loss so far!You absolutely have not stretched your sleeve. Your incision isn't even healed yet and it would split wide open before it would stretch. And it will NEVER stretch with fluids or even purées. It would takes weeks, if not months of consistently overeating solids to even begin to stretch your sleeve. And as for weightless your expectations are way too high. I was thrilled when I had lost 17 pounds at 6 weeks out. Not to mention you have a very low BMI so are not going to have the kind of total pounds lost that most people that post on here see. Thank you sooo much for your reply! Maybe my expectations are too high, and I appreciate your reassurance about stretching it out! You've helped make the end of my day a positive one! I appreciate your information! -

I am 12 days out and have bent the rules a little at a time. I developed a secondary infection at my drain site and have had to find creative ways to get my antibiotic down. One involves a concoction with applesauce. I tried to drink a Protein shake today and gagged. I've been on them since November 30 and feel like if I see another I will vomit. So I have tried other ways to get my protein in without it being a complete solid. It's been interesting. Interesting! I don't have a drain site. Did you have laproscopic surgery? I only have six small incisions on my belly. I'm sorry that you have to take medication that is "tough to swallow" (lol!). I guess I'm fortunate because I like my Protein drinks....Premier Protein--here are the links to where I bought the two flavors: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CXB8XRG http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IOTB1L6 There is 30 grams of protein in each little box, and at this price, I really feel like it is a good deal compared to the prices I found in stores. Hang in there, friend!! -

As weird as it sounds...it is called "water nausea." It will subside! I found that drinking water at room temperature, rather than ice/cold water is easier! From what I understand, some people have a harder time than others! I, too, can drink a lot at one time! I am going to ask my doctor questions like yours on Tuesday when I see her 17 days post-op. If she provides any info that hasn't been posted all ready, I will reply! Hang in there! -
I did a bad bad thing

You are so cute! I'm only two weeks out, and I've been able to eat anything I've wanted (limited quantity, however!) since day one! I've lost twelve pounds at my 14-day mark, but I believe I could have lost more if I'd stuck to the protocol! From what I've read, you will be fine! Just get back on track and EXERCISE!! I am joining a gym today and getting back into my routine (I was walking five miles a day last summer!). The successful people I've heard from have really incorporated fitness into their routine. I've also read that one "blunder" won't blow it for you! Hang in there! -

I'm at my 15-day mark. I've only lost 12 pounds, but I'm feeling better already! My daughter, who is a physical therapist, told me that my weight loss will probably be slower than most as I BARELY met the requirement for surgery at 5'11, 250 lbs. and 37 BMI. I was wondering if I'm normal...I've had a really hard time sticking to the prescribed diet routine (clear liquid diet, full liquid diet, etc.) I am now supposed to be on a pureed diet, but since the first few days, I've been able to eat anything I've wanted! I've been making sure to chew it more than usual, but other than that, nothing has changed except my appetite and how full I get quickly! I am going to see my doctor for the first time after surgery on Tuesday, I hope I haven't messed myself up! I guess I'm most worried about stretching out my stomach early on and it never going back! UGH! Anyone else not followed the protocol? -
I am being sleeved on 12/21/2015 – would it be a BAD idea to go the family Christmas get together? (They don’t know I am getting sleeved)
idahoteacher replied to Scottyd1264's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took a stance toward this surgery that I thought I never would....I told EVERYONE close to me!! I simply asked myself, "what did keeping a secret regarding a past weight loss attempt do for me?" The answer was NOT A DAMN THING! I know I was afraid of failure and any ridicule that would follow if I didn't meet my weight loss goal. When contemplating this procedure, however, I realized that I cannot take this journey alone! I need the support of my friends and family to be successful! Regarding your Christmas party, my advice would be to attend and, if you are comfortable, allow it to be a plateform to let those that should love and care about you know that you are preparing for a surgery that will save your life! -

Thank you for sharing your posts! I just had sleeve surgery last Friday (December 11th), and my doctor only had me on Clear liquids the first two days. Beginning yesterday, I was able to start creamed Soups, Protein drinks, custard/puddings, Jello, etc. I have been able to tolerate EVERYTHING I've eaten with minimal pain, and I'm hoping I'm not eating too much to actually stretch my stomach back out (I'm not sure if that is possible at this stage or not!). I do get cramping and discomfort with drinking Water, but told I would. I have found Muscle Milk to be great tasting, 20 grams of protein per drink, and doesn't cause that "yuck" effect! I am anxious to speak with my doctor at my two 1/2 week mark!
