How much weight did you have to lose before surgery?
Tricia K. replied to sleepyjean's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My surgeon didn't require that I lose weight prior to surgery but recommended that I try to lose 3-5 pounds. -
Good luck to both of you!

I'm so stoked!

Clear liquid stage and Isopure question
Tricia K. replied to Lisa*in*NJ's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Lisa, every doctor seems to have different post-op diet instructions. I've attached a link to my surgeon's post-op diet, which had me on clear liquids for only 2 days. Just remember to trust in your surgeon. http://www.geocities.com/tricia_kutz/misc/post-op-diet.JPG -
For breakfast, I have one of the following: 1 scrambled egg w/cheese 8-16 oz. Protein shake (depending upon restriction level) 8 oz. yogurt 1 packet instant oatmeal

I haven't taken Metformin since I had the surgery. Both my PCP and my surgeon didn't see the need for it any longer.

Mississippi Dr's???????????
Tricia K. replied to buck100's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Also, if you're close to Louisiana, there is a great surgeon (I'm a bit partial, of course) by the name of Thomas Lavin. Here is a link to his website. www.whyweight.com -
VelvetKiss, I'm not sure if you're aware of this or not, but there is a well-known and well-respected bariatric surgeon in Portland by the name of Emma Patterson. Below is a link to the website where she performs the surgery. This might be another option to consider. http://www.legacyhealth.org/body.cfm?id=681 Good luck, Tricia

Banded 11/17 - First Month until 1st fill?
Tricia K. replied to lyndalafe's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, this is typical. After the initial swelling from surgery subsides, you're typically able to eat almost anything and more frequently. There are things that your body just will not tolerate so remember to be conscious of it. Your first fill may not provide much restriction but just be patient. I just had my 3rd fill and feel much better restriction. Good luck! -
I hit my 1st goal of 30 lbs. TODAY!!

I just had my 3rd fill this past Tuesday and now have 2.2ccs. I'm feeling good restriction and have had no problems thus far.

HELP - I need LIQUID cold medicine
Tricia K. replied to lovecats85's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks for the tip. I'm typically good with taking Nyquil at the first sign of a cold and by the next day or 2, it's completely gone. I've never really had a severe cold. -

I'm a huge fan of Nyquil. It always quickly knocks out whatever I have. Plus, it helps me sleep. -
Why did you choose the band over GB?
Tricia K. replied to sleepyjean's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I concur with both vinesqueen and Alexandra. Had there not been the option for the lap band, I would have not had any other type of WLS. This is a wonderful tool and I'm so happy with my decision. Yes, the weight loss is slower, but I'm a working part of that process. With GB, I feel as though the weight would come off regardless of whether or not I watched what I ate or exercised. This is my opinion, mind you. I also didn't want to deal with my insides being re-arranged, permanently. I find comfort in the fact that with the lap band, it's adjustable AND reversible (if necessary). -
Congratulations on obtaining your surgery date. There were plenty of people in your shoes prior to surgery. I, on the other hand, didn't have any concerns but I suppose I'm the exception to the rule. Just remember that you're doing this to change your life AND to add years to your life. It's a great tool. There are no guarantees in life so I believe you should live each day as it comes. Try not to worry about complications, etc. but rather the benefits of this tool. Keep your chin up!!

What about a get together in Shreveport
Tricia K. replied to ladysplenda's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow, I can't believe I'm seeing a post about a get together in my state. I'm an hour northwest of New Orleans. I would consider attending a get-together in Shreveport. I'm not at all into gambling but I could do something else. -
