I'm sorry you're having difficulty obtaining health insurance that will cover WLS. My insurance company didn't cover it so I was a self-pay patient. It's tough, but I wasn't about to let the insurance company dictate my life. I took it in my own hands. Good luck to you. I feel your pain. In early 2004, I applied for individual coverage with Ocshner (now Humana) and was denied due to not fitting within their height/weight charts. I currently have COBRA coverage through BCBS of Louisiana but was recently denied individual coverage through them BECAUSE I had weight loss surgery. I was also denied for the same reason by Humana One and Coventry. BCBS of Louisiana did state the reason was "because you had weight loss surgery within the last one (1) year" and that I could apply again after my 1 year anniversary but they wouldn't guarantee coverage. I've been with them this long under a group plan, they know my medical history as well as my history of doctor visits/prescriptions/etc., yet they won't give me individual coverage right now. I even asked that they write in an exclusion for anything related to my surgery, but they wouldn't even do that. Ugh..I can't win for "losing." :faint:

P.S. Not to rub it in, but I haven't had a period for the past 5 1/2 years since I started taking Depo-provera. :biggrin1:

Also, make sure you're only copying the text " through " and pasting that into your signature.

YAY!! Isn't it wonderful?

If you were banded only 6 weeks ago, you're still healing. If I were you, I would wait another 2 weeks before you continue the exercise regimen you mentioned. Walking is fine, but anything other than that may disrupt the healing process.

Pre-op, not dieting and friends are "concerned". Help!

I think some of the other suggestions are good but, personally, I would just tell them that it's none of their business. And then, just smile and walk away. -

Removing the tape from "wounds"
Tricia K. replied to nofattipatti's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
At my 1-week post-op visit, the nurse practitioner removed my steri-strips. I suggest that you call the doctor's office and ask them their opinion. -
I've traveled several times after getting banded and had no issues with my band setting off the metal detector. As far as air pressure affecting your band, I've only had it happen once, during our last trip to Vegas in February. I was a bit more restricted for a few days but it subsided. Have fun!

*sending good thoughts your sister's way* Best of luck for a speedy recovery!

Congratulations, Emily!! Keep up the good work!!

Due to allergies, I cannot wear anything but gold or sterling silver in my ears or on my fingers. I don't have the same issues with watches though. I don't have an answer for the staples question as I had cat-gut (internal) dissolving stitches and steri-strips. Good luck!

I got an unfill of .3cc this morning so I'm going to concentrate on water and protein today. Of course, I had to have a latte!! Breakfast: none Snack: 20 oz. latte made w/ whole milk & 3 Splenda Lunch: 1/2 Lean Cuisine Pepperoni Pizza Snack: 1/8 c. cashews Dinner: 2 meatballs w/ 1 slice american cheese and 3 olives Total Calories: 632 Total Fat: 36 grams - 51% Total Carbs: 51 grams - 30% Total Protein: 29 grams - 19%

I went in this morning to get a slight unflll - .3cc - and now feel 100% better. Chris (the nurse practitioner) pulled out .2cc then had me drink some Water. It still hurt a little (golfball feeling) and I was so thirsty so stuck the needle in, took all of the fill out, then had me drink the 16oz. bottle of water that I had with me. Then, she pushed it all back in, had me drink a little more water, which was still a little uncomfortable. So, after all was said and done, she took out another .1cc, which brings me to .1cc less than what I had in there last Tuesday. That's ok though because I'm probably a bit swollen from the 4 PB's I've had in the past 3 days...ugh! She told me that to give it a few days and if I felt I needed to have that .1cc put back in to call her and she'll accommodate me.
