It's amazing, isn't it? It's like we've gained about 8 years of equity in less than a year. I am still in a bit of shock over the appraisal amount. The mosquitoes aren't any worse there than they are here in Hammond. We have friends that live less than a mile from the new house and we're over there quite a bit. I don't notice any difference. But, if it does start getting bad, you better believe I'll be stocking up on it.

Diane - I had this happen to me on this board as well. I called out the person in question openly in a thread and it stopped, immediately. I hope it stops for you soon.

Wow...this is becoming quite the event! As soon as I get some sort of schedule out of my husband, I'll have a better idea of when and where. Telly mentioned something about dinner and a comedy club, which is right up our alley. I'm thinking Friday night would be best but, again, I need a definite schedule from the hubby. We should all exchange cell numbers so that we can keep in touch. Telly and I have already done so.

Thank you very much. The home we're currently in is 1600 sq. ft. living. This new house is 3000 sq. ft. living but approx. 4000 sq. ft. total counting the carports, porches and pool house. I'm hoping it won't be a hassle to clean. Thankfully, except for the bedrooms upstairs, the floors are stained concrete or hardwood, which I've found to be easier to clean. And, thanks for the hint!

LOL...that's ok. Yes, next Monday we're going to Eustis, which is about an hour away from Orlando. We'll be arriving late in the evening but we'll be there until Sunday morning. Where are you? If you're close, maybe we can coordinate everyone meeting at the same time.

Funny - thanks! We're in love with this house too. I walked in and my jaw dropped. I would love to have people visit. We don't know that many people here. Come on up! Meow - I'm sorry you're not able to view the pictures. It might be because you're on dial up. I've uploaded the pics to my server and they're showing for (almost) everyone else. Diane - LOL...that would be fun! I would have to run it by the dear husband but I would love to start one at my house! Paula - my husband posted photos on another message board and other people knew it was in Louisiana as well. I'm not originally from here so I guess I don't understand how people can tell. In any event, I'm madly in love with it. I can't wait to move in and enjoy the house, pool, land, etc. The man selling the house is single and was originally leasing the house with option to buy. He exercised his right to purchase shortly after Katrina because he had no where else to go. He never wanted to own it but really had no choice at the time. So now he basically wants to unload it because he already found another place to buy. He said that before Katrina, it appraised for $40k more than what he's selling it to us for. We're hoping that the appraisal we're having done on it shows at LEAST a 10-11% increase AFTER Katrina. BTW - our current home recently (last week) appraised for 44% more than what we bought it for last year.

My surgeon had no limitations on coffee. He did mention that it increases the appetite in some people but that's not the case with me.
-
Ugh...wasn't it just unbearable yesterday? We have our 12 year old nephew and my 8 year old step-son this week and next and we're trying to find things to do as well. Maybe we should get together and let them all play. We're in Hammond. Where are you?

1/2 hour of swimming 15 minutes on trampoline

Thanks again, everyone. We're very excited and can't wait to take possession of the house, which will probably be the first week of August. Emilee - lol...no drooling! Diane - LBT house parties? Have I been missing out on something? Jachut - we definitely need to find an icon for that, don't we? Or rather, just take a picture of my face when I saw the inside of the house and use that. We got a great deal on the house. I suppose we were in the right place at the right time. Telly - I can't wait to meet you either! We HAVE to take pictures to share with our friends here at LBT. Oh yeah...you're bringing DOC? Hee hee, j/k. So, you're coming in August or September?

Thanks, everyone. Here are some more pictures. Small living room downstairs Large living room/family room upstairs Kitchen (the barstools are going and we're getting a stainless refridgerator to match the rest of the appliances) Formal dining room Master bath
-
Pool, hot tub, and pool house with bathroom and showers. We'll be using something other than lattice. (The pool is empty because the liner was being replaced)
-
Thanks so much. Yes, there is a pool and a hot tub. I'll post more pictures soon. I love the porches too. I've only lived in Louisiana for a little over 2 years. I grew up in Oregon and then lived in New Jersey for 9 years prior to moving here. My husband has lived in Louisiana for about 14-15 years. We currently live in Hammond but this house is in neighboring Livingston Parish.
-
The front door. (All the doors are distressed wood and have beveled glass) Stained concrete floors in the living and dining rooms, and the kitchen. Front yard Back yard
-
Thank you! No screen or glass porch but the porches are gorgeous. In the shade, it's bearable even in hot and humid Louisiana.
