  1. I decided that today I needed to get up and get going. I went into work for an hour, and then I went to the YMCA with my best friend. got in30 minutes on the treadmill. Not near as fast as I usually walk, and with no incline today, but I am very pleased that I was able to do the whole thirty minutes only three days out from surgery. The added benefit, was that it seemed to help a bit with all the gas!!

    Three days post op

Had my sleeve done Tuesday. Tuesday night and Wednesday were horrible!! I have never felt so sick in my stomach in my life. Thursday was my first full day home, and I spent most of the day sleeping. Today has been much better. I got up this morning and have been sipping on my water consistently and am over the 30 ounce mark. I have also had two servings of my protein today. There is still a lot of gas, and hiccupping or burping is still painful. I did go to work today and did a gel polish, I could have done a haircut as well, but I didn't want to over do things. After we left the salon Christine and I went to the Y. I got in a full thirty minutes on the treadmill. I walked at half the speed I usually do, and had zero incline, but I did the whole 30 minutes. It has seemed to help some with the gas, although there is still a ton of it rumbling around in there. I haven't had to take any pain medication today or any of the anti-nausea medication, which I consider to be a very good thing. Though I am sure I will take a dose at bedtime, to ensure that I can rest comfortably, since its been a pretty busy day.

    Husband not supportive

Sorry you are going through this. My husband has not been real supportive of me getting surgery, but he certainly did not try to sabotage me either. We talked numerous times about why I wanted surgery, and what his concerns were. I'm three days post op, and he had to go to Texas for work a few days before surgery. He had been burning up the phone lines checking on me, and now that surgery is done he couldn't be more supportive. His biggest concern was that he will lose the woman he married. I just had to reassure him that I have every intention of being the same person, just in a smaller body.
  4. I had my surgery Tuesday, and all went as planned. I got home Wednesday night. Yesterday my first full day home, I slept alot, and only got in about 30 ounces of water. Today I've gotten in the first 9 ounces and working on the next nine. I haven't even really worried about my protein yet. Hopefully I will feel better today than yesterday. Had so much gas I could barely get anything down.

    Pre op diet.

My surgeon has all his patients follow a two week high Protein, low fat, low carb diet. My clinic has made it very easy for us, in that they have a store where you buy your entire two week diet for under 100.00. It has been a wonderful stress reliever to have everything I need, on hand and easy to prepare.

    Surgery is tomorrow!

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement. I have my bag packed, and all of my last minute errands, household chores, etc. done, so all that is left is eat my dinner and snack and try to relax for the rest of the evening. I don't have to be at the hospital until 12:15 tomorrow, and I am pretty sure that I will have lots of time on the ride to the hospital ( it's 60 miles) away to battle last minute butterflies. I will update tomorrow evening.
  7. Tomorrow is my big day! I am very excited, and a bit nervous. Not really nervous about starting my new life, more nervous about the actual getting put to sleep, and the procedure. Worried about possible complications and things of that sort. Once the surgery is done, I am sure I will be here on the boards continually for questions, advice, tips and tricks. I am very glad that there is a place where we can get support on our journeys.
  8. I have my surgery on the 12th. I don't have as much to accomplish before surgery as you do, but I know the next ten days are going to be very busy. Today is day two of my pre-surgery diet. I have felt slightly hungry all day, but no real loss of energy. Just keep reminding yourself that this is a temporary thing, and what the rewards are going to be. That is my plan of action for when I am really hungry, and I am hoping that it works.
  9. I have told my immediate family, my bosses, a couple of close friends, and my best friend of 29 years, who is also going through the pre-surgery process. I do not care one way or the other if people have good things or negative things to say am doing this for me, and my health. Unfortunately too many people think that they have the right to run their mouths no matter what the situation. I have learned how to shut them down quickly. It is an individual decision to tell, or not to tell. Follow your heart, and do what feels right to you.

    10 Days till Surgery!

I started my quest for weight loss surgery back in June, it has been a long wait. I got a surgery date of February 8th about a week ago, Then on New Year's Eve I got a call from Amanda, the surgical coordinator at Marquette General. She wanted to know if I would like to move into a January 12th surgery date!!!! I have been ready for this for years! I am so excited! I first investigated bariatric surgery about 20 years ago, but due to mortality rates, and the restrictions I chose not to do it at that time. That has been a decision that I have looked on with great sadness and disappointment, Fearing that there would never be another opportunity for me to have surgery. I will only have 11 days on my pre-op diet, and I am hoping that due to already lowering my carb and fat intake and increasing my protein intake the last couple of months; my liver will have shrunk enough for Dr Kemeter to be able to move it out of the way during surgery. I have not so far experienced too much hunger on this diet, but then again it is only the second day. I went through my dresser and closet yesterday, and got rid of some clothes that I wore to work at the store that I have no intention of every wearing again as long as I live. I also found a tote full of clothes that I wore when I was at my thinnest, and couldn't bear to part with. I am now washing them and hanging them up in my closet in happy anticipation of being able to wear them again.
  11. My final straw moment wasn't a moment, but a series of moments. 1. Having a hard time getting up and down to the floor to play with my grandson. 2. My feet, legs, and back in constant pain, especially after work each night. 3. Huffing and puffing over the lightest of exertion. 4. Having to get larger and larger clothes. There are many more, but those are a few, not to mention that I want to be healthy and see my grandson grow up.
