What are you doing post op you haven't done in a long time (or ever)
CHM replied to LisaMergs's topic in The Lounge
While perhaps not as meaningful as other accomplishments here, I'm just enjoying looking like a damn woman again! When I was a size 32 I just bought whatever fit and didn't make me want to cry. Now I actually get to SELECT things that are both flattering and appealing to me. I am made happy by an entire summer's wardrobe full of dresses - almost none of which are 'hide me' maxi dresses - and heels and accessories. I'd never really worn them before, but apparently I reeeeeally like dresses! -
Aww. So I need to keep my "straws are good" comments to myself then? Nevar!!!

I'm always looking for fun. I'll take whatever you have...

I need to stop taking evening naps... As usual, I missed all the fun!

Do certain comments bother you?
CHM replied to Learningtolive's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My feelings on comments depend less on the actual content and more on how accurate I feel they are, as well as who they are coming from. I'm trying to learn to accept reasonable compliments graciously, but it certainly does not come naturally. I tend to be more cautious with comments from family. Given the closeness level, family tends to be more likely to border on rude or intrusive than the average person. They are also more likely to offer a half-hearted compliment because they feel they should, rather than because they mean it. I'm usually okay with compliments from women, as long as they're not over the top and don't come across as catty. Comments from men, however, are a different story. I don't like comments on physical appearance from this group. Never have. Yes, I suppose it is flattering on some level, but that is far trumped by the uncomfortable factor. Depending on how these comments are delivered, they tend to leave me feeling either angry or vulnerable. And I don't like either. Yes, I have issues... The feast before the famine...
CHM replied to tiers4me's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had intended to have a food funeral a week before my surgery (no pre-op diet required). My 'last hurrah' that day ended up amounting to 2 crispy risotto bites and half of a breadstick from Olive Garden, then later, one small egg roll and a bowl of wonton Soup. I guess I was ready... Whatever gets your Fluid in! I enjoy plain water as well, but the fact is that Crystal Light just makes it go down faster and easier, allowing me to get more down in a day. I would like to wean off of the artificial sweeteners one day...but today is not that day.

Personally, my hunger returned at 6 weeks, but according to my surgeon's office that was far earlier than expected. They assumed that it was because I was only getting half of the calories I was supposed to at the time, however even after getting those up to standard the hunger remained. I have to say, I'm happy to have it. I'd thought that one of the perks of surgery would be not feeling hungry for a length of time. Now, however, I realize that I would not be doing as well without it, as I am definitely one of those people that would not be eating enough without my appetite nudging me in the right direction.

Does anyone's goal weight still leave them "overweight" or "obese"?

Does anyone's goal weight still leave them "overweight" or "obese"?
CHM replied to provenzee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've mentioned this in another thread or two, but my original goal weight was 155 - right at the upper end of a normal BMI. My surgeon stated that she'd rather see me in the 170's on account of my body type, which is well into the overweight catergory. The GP I saw in my late teens also told me that I shouldn't be below 170 for the same reason, but at the time I was young and stupid and just wanted to be a size 2. I am no longer young and stupid and wanting to be a size 2. If two different doctors of two different specialties in two different countries agree that below 170 is not right for me, then that's just fine. Overweight or not. -
@ Hmm...I HAVE been called a robot actually. On several occasions...

Oh no! I let an inside thought slip out! I'm such a terrible person...

I'm with @ and @@LipstickLady ...you can think whatever you want. Your thoughts are not only entirely your own, but they are quite often beyond your control. What matters is what you do. Do you voice them? Act on them? I haven't a violent bone in my body. I've never hit nor been hit. Everyone who knows me personally would describe me and very polite, accommodating, and passive. But let me tell you, I have had thoughts of absolutely murdering people on some occasions. I am not immature. I am not irrational. My inside thoughts do not dictate who I am. Nor do anyone else's dictate who they are. So @@Fredbear , maybe try keeping your inside thoughts to yourself and stop being an ignorant, judgemental prick.

Personally I think they're fine on occasion. I use raw wonton wrappers to make mini lasagna or ravioli when I just want Pasta. I use 4 of them, which contain 80 calories, 16g carbs, and 3g Protein. Yes, they have carbs, but I don't feel the count is that bad for an occasional fix, especially if I've been watching them elsewhere for the rest of the day. I wouldn't make them a daily staple though.

What Has Been the Hardest Habit for You to Break?
CHM replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@VSGAnn2014 Similar to above, I've never been much of a recipe follower...I don't like other people 'telling me what to do', so to speak. If I turn out a good dish, I want full credit! There are a few things I've made that have turned out and gone over so well that I've taken the time to develop an actual recipe so I remember how I did it. For the most part, however, cooking is one big experiment, and I do need to taste to be sure it's palatable. I may not be so concerned if I hadn't had more than a few 'down the disposal where's the takeout menu' nights... But I have. So I am. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

What Has Been the Hardest Habit for You to Break?
CHM replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I find the further out from surgery I'm getting the faster I'm eating. I used to be good at chewing carefully and taking a breath between bites, but now that I realize that it often doesn't bother me I've been less careful. I'm still good at taking small bites though! My most difficult habit to break however has been drinking with my meals. I like salt. Salt makes you thirsty. Thirst makes you drink. Definitely still a struggle. I do my best, but its still not uncommon for me to follow a meal with a mouthful or two of Water. -
