To "Bypass" or to "Sleeve"?
CHM replied to Vagrant Violet's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Personally, I went in to meet my surgeon set on bypass for a couple of reasons: First and foremost was the presence of dumping syndrome, which I view as a benefit rather than a complication. As it turns out, I can handle both fat and sugar just fine. I haven't deliberately tested it or anything, but hey, I'm still human, life happens, and I've made out just fine. It has, however, given me a good kick in the pants the couple of times I've O.D'd on carbs, which I greatly appreciate as a recovering carb addict. Second is that, as previously mentioned, the average percent of excess weight lost is higher with bypass than with sleeve. Having said that, I have since read articles that indicate that the weight loss rate from the sleeve does catch up to bypass somewhere in the 2-3 year mark. Therefore, depending on how patient you are, this one may not be a factor for you. In the end, my preference for bypass was enthusiastically supported by my surgeon. She stated that bypass is what most surgeons will recommend in the presence of a very high BMI (mine was 55.6), and that it was what she would have guided me towards anyway had I been undecided. So bypass it was! -
Tired of discussing my weight with people
CHM replied to 24601's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had lost a lot of weight pre-op, so I was already plenty tired of all of the attention before I even got around to surgery. It was fun for the first 40 lbs or so, then I slowly became more self-conscious about it. Compliments now get an awkward smile and a timid thank you, and any requests for numbers (pounds lost, current size, etc) are met with "I'm sorry, I'm no longer sharing that." Thankfully, the attention has started to die down now that I've stopped feeding it. -
What signs should I look for to know I'm full?
CHM replied to numeby2017's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't help with any signs to look for, but what I can suggest is to stick with the portions advised by your medical team. At 10 weeks out I still have no physical way to determine fullness - I experience no 'signs', and I certainly don't feel it. Not everyone does. You can't go wrong if you stick to the prescribed serving sizes in your plan. -
I would love to be able to answer this! Unfortunately as I was leaving town to head to my appointment on Friday, the doctor's office called saying they had to reschedule me again, so I now have to wait until April 28th. I'll get this thing in eventually, dammit!

Well, its official: I'm out of plus sizes. Finally!

Very exciting for you. Can't wait for this to be me! So...do tell...what kind of goodies did you buy in your new size?

I wholeheartedly second this recommendation. I believe it to be www.crazymeds.us, however.

Anyones sexual desire increase after surgery
CHM replied to wandas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know I've seen several people stating this, but I am personally not convinced. I lost a lot of fat pre-op (86 lbs), but I didn't experience the surge in libido until after surgery. I believe it to be something else, although I haven't the foggiest notion as to what that something might be. -

Oh hell yes. This is not uncommon. You are in good company. [emoji6] -
Haddock and Broccoli Pie (a healthy pie!)
CHM replied to Shotochick's topic in Regular foods (stage 4)
As did I. Why don't we have those here...not fair. I suppose I could order some from Amazon, but that just sounds dangerous! -
I stepped on the scale this morning and was greeted by a triple milestone surprise! 1. I've officially lost 100 pounds! 2. I'm halfway to goal! 3. I am no longer morbidly obese! Such a happy happy day.

I love how none of these comments are about the pie. It's all about walking around half nekkid and Tim Tams! Which I will have to google... -
One day out of surgery...questions
CHM replied to LisaMergs's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My surgeon office says I don't need to bother if I'm consuming other liquids, such as protein shakes, broth, or milk. I only need to separate my drinks if consuming solids. However, as always, you'll want to check with your own surgeon to be sure of their policy on it. -
And don't forget the cramping. I can assure you from experience that when your body begins to eat its own muscle, you can feel it. You will get 'charlie horse' sensations in muscles you didn't know you had.

One day out of surgery...questions
CHM replied to LisaMergs's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You're doing just fine. I know a lot of patients have issues, but everyone handles things differently. I distinctly remember my surprise at how it felt to drink once I was cleared for liquids - unexpectedly unchanged. 2 months today, and I have yet to feel any distinct feelings of fullness. Granted I do stick to my portions and try not to push it. I still say that if I hadn't seen my modified digestive system with my own eyes during the X-ray the morning after surgery, I'd swear they forgot to do it! -
All calorie apps have been down for the last few days, why?
CHM replied to nsciolino's topic in Website Assistance & Suggestions
This could be possible. MFP is working just fine on my iphone, but I have yet to download the latest software update. -
Of course! Pre-op loss was 86 lbs on the morning of surgery - the rest is post-op.
-
Yeah that's just odd. I have an iphone and have never seen that error. Lol

I have quite the method for managing my bras during weight loss - I've got them stretched to last for 3 sizes a piece! Lol. When its time for new ones I go down 2 band sizes and up one cup size (because the band size is going down) from what I actually need. Then I use an extender on the band and deal with the cups being a touch small for the first size, enjoy a nice fit in both areas on the longest hook for the second size, then use cup inserts and the shortest hook for the 3rd size. I've only gone through 2 bra sizes throughout a 120 lb loss this way. Can't wait until my weight stabilizes and I can invest in all of the hawt VS stuff!

I can post fine. I'm on the BP app about half of the time (like now) and have never needed a tag to post anything. I wonder why yours is requiring it...

I don't remember getting to the OR at all, or even being wheeled out of the pre-op room. Last thing I remember is a nurse on the phone getting pissy with the lab because my pregnancy test results weren't uploaded yet and everyone was waiting on me. The first thing I remember afterwards is being wheeled into my private room, then the nurse checking my incisions and gushing how great they looked, as I wondered why I couldn't speak or even open my eyes.

So with all this time on my hands... I've been thinking... Rut ro! ha!
CHM replied to pammieanne's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I very VERY VERY strongly recommend practicing this habit pre-op. The separation of water and food has by far been my biggest struggle, leading me to not eat as much food as I should be because I really don't want to give up drinking each time for as long as we need to. Nearly my entire soft food stage was spent consuming little more than Fairlife milk so I could get calories and protein without having to give up drinking. It's compromising my weight loss! Lol. Seriously though, I foolishly disregarded incorporating this habit pre-op because I believed it would be a snap after surgery, since my stomach should be too small to be able to hold both anyway. It was NOT a snap. Start getting used to this as early as possible. -
I like my weight loss like I like my Netflix... dramatic ;)
CHM replied to swizzle's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I love that topic title. It totally lured me in! Congratulations on doing so well already. I'm glad you're feeling better so soon. If you're like I was, the head hunger will stick around until you start getting 'real' flavors on the puréed diet. Its funny, before surgery I was actually asking my surgeon if the puréed stage was even necessary, or if I could just do full liquids an extra week then go right to soft. The idea of mushy, liquified meats and veggies was just so unappealing. That attitude changed almost immediately after surgery, and 2 weeks later, I had never been so grateful for cat food-looking mush in my life! -
I actually had this for lunch today, on skewers with grilled shrimp and a splash of balsamic vinegar.
