  1. I've been doing it the last few days. I start my pre op diet on Thursday. But I don't think I changed a whole lot with my 6 month physician monitored whatever. Just like always I had a week or 2 of eating well then a week or 3 of crap, rinse, repeat. So I don't have some amazing change to maintain. Just life. And I'm indulging a bit because life is about to change. Jess, mom to Ysabel, 6 and Maggie, 3

    So frustrated

I started the process in 2014, but as a single mom with a toddler still in a crib, I was moving at a snail's pace. No point until she was out of the crib, right? Fast forward 9 months, and my kid was in a bed, so I thought I was finishing my insurance requirements. Only to find out that, in 2015, my insurance added a 6 month physician monitored diet. Ok. Changes my timeline, but nothing to do but follow the rules, right? Well today, after jumping through every hoop, repeating the steps I did in 2014, they tell me that I will probably be denied. Because of a scheduling issue, my sept appt ended up happening in October. So I have July, August, 2 October appts, nov, and dec. Today, TODAY, the patient navigator says "didn't you know it had to be 6 consecutive months, with no less than 4 weeks between appointments?" Beyond the magic if scheduling that must require, why the duck did you tell me this at the END of the period, and not the beginning? So-the current plan is to get a note from my pcp explaining that his front office staff screwed up and hope that someone is actually rational at the insurance company. Otherwise I actually need 3 more appointments! Does anyone have other ideas on how to approach this? My insurance is Anthem BCBS in VA but they are just the administrator. My employer self insures and they make the rules. I had to appeal a decision years ago and lost. So I'm feeling pretty down right now. Jess, mom to Ysabel, 6 and Maggie, 3

    So frustrated

Apparently the note from my pcp explaining the scheduling error did the trick! Honestly, I'm shocked. But happy. Surgery late Jan or early Feb. and healed up by spring break when we have travel plans! Jess, mom to Ysabel, 6 and Maggie, 3
  5. My kids are 3 and 6. I have been thinking about this too. My 6 yr old is aware that I am fat. We have talked about mommy working to be healthier. I've been getting on the treadmill. So I think I'm going to tell them that the dr is fixing my stomach to help me be healthier. I'm a single mom, so a friend and/or grandma will be with them while I am in the hospital. That will be the hardest part for them. Jess, mom to Ysabel, 6 and Maggie, 3

    So frustrated

I'm glad you've found time goes fast. But I already jumped through all their hoops. I did the 6 months. But due to a scheduling error by my pcp's office, they may only count the last 3 visits. I'm not annoyed they had the 6 month requirement. Im annoyed that they do this hoping we will give up and they won't have to pay. I'm annoyed that I am being penalized for something that was beyond my control. I'm annoyed at how much additional money it will cost. I've already waited-first 9 months until my child didn't need to be lifted into a crib. Then 2 months to get into my pcp plus 6 months of visits. Not including the year of thinking before that. So yes, I'm frustrated and pissed that such a minor thing (an appt a week late) can have such a major impact. Jess, mom to Ysabel, 6 and Maggie, 3
  7. I just met with the nutrituinist yesterday. She said the key to the pre op diet is no sugar. So if you are starving, eat more Protein. She says better a few ounces of chicken than vegetables. And definitely no fruit. Jess, mom to Ysabel, 6 and Maggie, 3
  8. This is more of a long term question. But I'm seeing a lot of posts about Protein powder. I know I will need to use it short term to bump up the protein and calories, but I thought by a year out I'd be eating what I need. And not eating more than that. Is Protein Powder a long term thing for many people? Jess, mom to Ysabel, 6 and Maggie, 3
  9. Whew! Thanks everyone. I figured I might need it at the beginning but was hoping that food is the long term source. Jess, mom to Ysabel, 6 and Maggie, 3
  10. Hi. I'm new here, and hoping to have sleeve surgery in January. My biggest concern, aside from just slowly returning to bad habits, is fitting in exercise. I am a single mom with 2 kids. Age 3.5 and 6.5. I am a single mom by choice, so there is no other adult doing some of the driving or cooking or any other household running, income earning tasks. I work full time and we are usually away from home from 7:45-5:45. Then it's dinner and family time. And by the time the kids are in bed I'm beat and still have to do all the running of the household stuff. I need an hour of true downtime to sleep, so I end up in bed around 11, and get up at 6. I have no idea where or how to fit in exercise. Icahn squeeze in a 10 minute walk at work. And I do have a treadmill. But I'm just so tired that the thought of getting the adrenaline pumping right before bedtime is terrifying. But I've never done well getting up earlier. Partly because isn't get to sleep earlier. I already average less than 6 hours sleep a night despite my efforts to get 7 hrs. I don't want to give that up. Jess, mom to Ysabel, 6 and Maggie, 3
