Hi I am 3.5 mo post sleeve surgery and lost 37 lb. I eat almost anything but i noticed that proteins seem to get stuck in my stomach. Meaning i can eat cookies and chocolate (I try to not over indulge) and feel ok, also fruits and veggies pass ok. But proteins like meat and eggs make me feel like the food is stuck. After an hour or so it gets better. Also bread, pizza etc is horrible. Nuts, muesli seem yo irtitate my stomach so I avoid them. Also I am still on PPIs. When were you able to eat anything but in small quantities? When did u leave PPIs? Thanks.

Hi Thank you all for the responses. First I never said I only eat junk and no nutritional food, what I wanted to know was if you notice the same differences. Everybody's food plan is different. Mine says that solid food means I can eat anything. I found that nuts and dough in general makes me feel bad, so I avoid it. I eat on a daily basis Protein, veggies and fruits and I take my vits regularly. I eat once a day fruit or 2 dried dates, thats my sugar. In the weekends i sometimes nibble something sweet because I enjoy food and deprivation was what brought me to 70 lbs overweight. I was a regular semi chubby teen(now looking back at the pics I looked ok) and started dieting at 14 yo. This cycle of deprivation and bingeing brought me here. I dieted all my life so I am not dieting anymore, I do eat healthy because I now treat my body with kindness and bcause health and not weight loss is my primary goal. I run and ride a bicycle 3-4 times a week and although I am still overweight and something like 30 or 40 lbs from goal, I feel better. You all jumped and judged me preaching me about my food choices. I just wanted you to tell me it is going to be ok. The Proteins will go down better in the future and you will feel better. So again, my questions were for all the veterans sleevers, how long it took you to be able to eat animal protein without it being stuck? Is it normal? And what about bread and pizza? I can eat cheeses soft and hard, fruits and veggies with no prob. eggs, fish , poultry and meat feel stuck. I eat small quantities and I stop when the first sign of fullness comes. Ppis solw down the acid and enzyme production in thr stimach, i tried not taking ppis and it felt awful, acid reflux, lots of liquids moviing in my stomach and burning. I was told that the decrease in stomach enzymes dimishes the ability to digest. So one last question: Did u notice a difference in the food digestion after leaving the PPIs? Thanks D

Hi I was wondering which protein bars do you use. Like how many gr of protein? With or without sugar? How many calories each? Ive noticed they can be 200-400 calories each.

I've been sleeved on dec 6th and I am in puree stage. Today I ate a homemade Soup (sweet potatoes and some lean chicken), was seating like led in my stomach, like it is stuck. I have trouble eating Protein, since all dairy and soy gives me an upset stomach (dhiarrhea and gas). So I wonder, what can I use? I am also hungry all the time. My stomach can be heard growling.... I am regretting it a bit. Wondering when I will feel normal again. Lost 10 lbs already. Thanks D -
I am 5 weeks post op, and last week I resumed my workouts as per doctor's permission. Everything was ok the first time but after the second time I felt like something tore or something, in the muscle I guess. I've browsing the complications forum for a while and understood that it makes me anxious and sad. I was terrified. It's been 6 days now, no fever and the pain is only in certain positions. I will definitely go to the doctor this week, but I guess is probably that I tore scar tissue or the internal stitches in the muscle (I did some stretching uh!) The chance of a leak is around 2%. But it depends on the surgeon skills a lot. That's why going for a very experienced professional might mitigate the risk. I read here in the forums about people getting leaks because of stomach ulcers after 2 years, but that's the exception not the rule. Almost 200K people get sleeved in the US a year.

Hi I am 4 wks post op. I almost cannot have proteins. Chicken even pureed gets stuck in my stomach. I have lactose intolerance since my surgery. I dont like fish. So i am on egg based protein shakes. I found that having some small sips of tea or warm water helps get the food down. Is it dangerous? Why are we not supposed to eat and drink at the same time? Thx D

When eating hard to digest foods, for example foods rich in fat and sugar, sometimes taking ppis makes digestion difficult. Before the sleeve some years ago I was prescribed omprazole and found that it made things worse. For me identifying the trigger foods for my heartburn was the answer. I also found that taking dogestive enzymes with difficult foods helped. The enzymses contained betaine hcl among others.

Hi I was sleeved dec 6th and I am going back to work next week. I told some coworkers about my surgery, since I thought people will see me lose weight or eat and ask questions. I heard that people were asking about me and if it is true I had a surgery for weight loss and I started panicking. What did u do? Did u tell? I am afraid of being judged for taking an easy way out as they perceive it. No easy way out at all...btw. I am afraid of questions like "did u try everything before?" "Why couldn't you do it on your own?" Overweight people are judged and seen as lazy and lacking willpower. So, what did u say? It is too late not to tell since some already know. I've seen people doing this surgery around me for 4 years I have had issues with my liver for the past 2 years with digestive problems and elevated liver enzymes. My father and brother have type 2 diabetes. I've been told by my doctors I need to lose 60 lbs so my liver will function better. It took me another 2 years and 3 times rescheduling until I finally had my surgery done 10 days ago. Thanks. D

I've been sleeved in dec 6th, and I was full of regret for the first 10 days or so. I am in the puree stage and I can't have any Protein at all. Dairy gives me dhiarrhea and pureed chicken or fish feel like lead in the stomach. I've been trying to eat all the foods I am supposed to, but I don't tolerate them. As soon as I realized that some foods are not good for me now (everybody says in the future it will get back to normal), I started feeling better. I have lots of energy and I will be back to work this coming week. Reading this forum helped me a lot to understand everybody feels like this at some point. I think the turning point for me was 2 days ago when I started to eat something that tastes ike food and did not feel like lead in my stomach (100% corn Pasta in onion clear Soup (pureed)), this made me feel better. -
when do you feel normal eating again (small portions still)?
denisa replied to denisa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks so much You all helped me feel better and stop thinking I made a mistake It kinda reminds me of the first months of my babies, they are now 10 yo and 8 yo. I had c sections and had to "survive" the pain, the sleepless nights and all the adjustments to a new life. I guess now I am the baby since this is my new life. I guess it is like being reborn. I was thinking about this today when I was eating my pureed food just like a baby... Thanks for your support. D -

Hi thanks for the replies, it helps me feel less lonely... I started Clear Liquids at day 2 post op, ful liquids at day 5 post op and now at day 9 post op I am at puree stage. I prepared a soup with seet potato and some small piece of chicken breast and blended it to death, Ate 3 tbsp and fell like led in my stomach for 2-3 hours (or maybe still feels like this) I cannot have dairy (cottage, youghurt and millk) they gave me dhiarrhea and gas. Neither soy. I was eating very low qtys of dairy for the past year, so it is not new, just makes it more of challenge. What else can I eat? thanks
