  1. I'm 35, 6' tall, and weigh 380. I've been overweight my whole life. This past year or so has been rough. I received diagnoses of diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and I'm on meds for the blood pressure and the diabetes. There's been a few cases of heart disease in my family, so this kind of scared me. I've struggled to maintain a healthier lifestyle before, and slip into old habits slowly over time. I'm ready for a drastic change in my life, and I feel like this is the best way to achieve that. I imagine it's because of the diagnoses I received this year, but getting covered by my insurance and getting a date set with my surgeon, Dr. Veninga in Carrollton, TX, took maybe a month. Some of this was just because of everyone rushing to get things done before the end of the year. I visit the hospital tomorrow for some preliminary stuff, like an endoscopy, and then surgery on Friday. Everyone's mileage varies. I'd be happy to lose a hundred pounds, but I hope that I'll be able to push it further than that. I'll report back soon, if anyone is curious how it goes. If there's anyone out there that had a similar build prior to surgery, I'd be curious to hear about your progress and experience. Wish me luck!

    January 8 is the day!

I had my EKG and endoscopy today. I was mainly nervous about the EKG and maybe the chest xrays. I was afraid of them finding something weird, but everything was normal. I was a little worried about how bad an IV was going to hurt (it didn't), or whether I'd have a weird reaction to anesthesia (I didn't). I'm not nervous at all anymore. Is it weird to actually be looking forward to surgery? I'm excited because this will help me make the changes I know I need in my life. I've already made some changes to my diet and my level of exercise, but everything combined is going to give me such a good chance to finally keep the weight off this time that I can't help but be excited. I can't wait to fit in smaller jeans, or smaller shirts, and to not worry if I'm going to fit in a booth at a restaurant.

    Getting Closer!

Good luck! Let us know how it went!
  4. I'm not aware of having any heart issues, but I'm concerned that they'll find something during my pre-operation tests that will either push back my date, which is 01/08/16, or rule me out of having WLS at all. Don't get me wrong: I'd rather know than not know, but it would still bother me to have to wait, especially since I've already arranged for time off from work and whatnot. Did anyone have experiences like this, where your surgery was delayed, or even canceled? I'd be interested to hear how the process went.
  5. Thanks for the responses, everyone. It sounds like I don't need to worry quite as much as I am. Everything has been ridiculously easy up to now, so I think I had just been waiting for the other shoe to drop. Truly, thanks everyone! Not too much longer until my day!
