If you think the WLS is causing absorption problems for the paineds, there are alternatives. Patch, suppositories, and injection. Can you get that?

I have a hard time visualizing why one with a plication would need banding as well. Eager to hear this variation's theory.

Looking for Sleeve Buddy for Dec 7th.
Emilie.Lancaster replied to Fat2Phat2016's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I got sick this week and that broke my stall. My tummy is sore from coughing, but at 5.5 weeks post surgery, I'm down 25 pounds. I'll take it. I've seen lots of folks with numbers better than mine, but I won't complain about 5 pounds a week. Wore the first non- shapeless dress to work Friday, and so many people noticed! The variety of comments went from You are melting away - to - hunny what you lost I found. It was nice to hear the world noticed. -
What does it feel like right afterwards?
Emilie.Lancaster replied to ld33's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had lots of pain and nausea and ended up back in the hospital in shock like state. But I'm not typical, I guess. However, I felt much better in less than a week - two weeks after surgery - I hiked in the mountains. Think of it this way: if it's the worst pain you can imagine - can you tough it out for a week? That's really all it was, and the narcotics helped - very yes. Read this: http://www.bariatricfoodie.com/five-not-so-stupid-questions-about-life-after-weight-loss-surgery/ -
I can see you trying to catch your breath in that first picture, but you're taking folks breath away in the second. You. Go. Girl. Also, I have cheekbone envy. Wow! You've got good bones.

Averaging 5 pounds a week... That's not slow, I don't think. 40 pounds down is amazing. -
1 Month Sleeved
Emilie.Lancaster replied to rosebud_char's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I eat about 850 calories each day fairly consistently. I hit my 80 g protein each day. I have a thin cup of coffee each morning, it helps me poo (don't judge.) And I eat half a zone perfect bar at work over the course of the morning. Then school lunch option (sometimes a half chicken Patty or a short cup of beans or their boiled yellow squash, something like that, but I can't ever finish it in one sitting. I take it back with me and finish it two hours later) I drink a protein drink. Premier is my favorite, over ice and usually over two or three hours. A cheese stick gets in there somewhere and soup for dinner. Maybe a yogurt popsicle if the calorie count allows. I count the cals... Every day. I have tried lots of foods I am not supposed to be ready for yet, and don't think I've done any damage. If it does not go down easy, I stop, and back up to mostly liquids. I had half a piece of pizza the other day. No problems. Beef, not so good. I had ricotta bake the other day and it was good, but the same thing today, and three bites on I wanted to barf. Only barfed once since sleeve Dec. 8. That was the dry trout. Ick. I believe that it's all a matter of calories, protein, and liquids. If I drink them all or chew, it makes little to no difference if I stay in parameters. I am down 25 pounds from surgery day, 30 from "go" date (11/23) I think it's a nice steady decline I can live with. -

nutritional yeast
Emilie.Lancaster replied to Kristin7676's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like nutritional yeast because it makes salad taste like bread. Try mixing it in a vinaigrette, or sprinkle it anywhere you would Parmesan. It is low volume protein. 2 tablespoons gives you 6g ish. Also, it is my understanding that it is grown on molasses, which is high in iron. The yeast breaks down much of it to a very mild and digestible form. I hope this is true... Bragg's brand is at most supermarkets, but you can find it much cheaper at a health food store that sells bulk items. I love the stuff. -
Kinda scared..problems with sleeve
Emilie.Lancaster replied to ZombieQueen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Deep breath, everyone. Everyone has a point here. And clearly, depending on what we eat, none of our poop smells like roses. ZombieQueen , you asked the question and posed your situation, and folks freaked out with concern for you. It boils down to a hive mind consensus that you may be dehydrated, and we all think upping the protein as you can is a win. Be careful, be safe, be wise, and make your choices for you. Peace... And sip, sip sip. -
Need help getting water in
Emilie.Lancaster replied to curlychic32's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Two things: Me, too, about the straw. I can't drink enough without a straw. They say it's about the air in the tummy with a straw, but I burb easily and that's the the ends of it. Secondly - having to get up in the middle of the night to pee is also a sign of many other things -- including being well hydrated. -
Kinda scared..problems with sleeve
Emilie.Lancaster replied to ZombieQueen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This sounds a lot like dehydration. One of the dangers of getting too little Water in you is that your blood has a hard time circulating and your heart has to work harder and everything IN your blood (nutrients, wastes, ect) can't move efficiently. Your extreme low water intake is going to kill you if you are not careful. Your Protein seems low, too. SEEK THY NUTRITIONIST! DRINK THY WATER! SCREW THEE NOT AROUND WITH THIS. -
Staying on track when you're under the weather
Emilie.Lancaster replied to lauraellen80's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Me, too. Woke with a cold on Sunday. Here's the thing: a certain amount of snot is going down the back of my throat and getting swallowed. I feel like I am full with the stuff in my stomach. What are you all taking for congestion, because the dayquil gel caps have given me heartburn from hell. Also, the coughing is making the underside of my incisions sore... is that normal? -
One month after a gastric sleeve.... Ups and downs. I'm eating all kinds of things, in tiny amounts, and sipping. 23 pounds down since surgery day, so, not too quick, not too slow. I now take two chewable multivitamins, calcium+D, and biotin. I am off the pain meds, but I've saved some percosets for when I'm feeling better... *wink* I just took my last prilosec. I wonder how that will shake out. Physically, I feel mostly back together, but not 100%. I teach 7th grade, and I have enough energy to teach all day, so a win there in the recovery column, but I'm having a devil of a time finding all the words I know that I know. Several files in my brain have bad directories now. Very frustrating, but I have hope that it will resolve soon. Stoopid anesthesia.... My incisions are still angry red, but totally sealed up. I had a pesky suture that kept poking out of one, but I finally clipped it off below the skin and it covered and closed itself. I realize just now that the itching has gone down dramatically in the last day or so. Win. My waist and thighs are drawing in, but that makes my flabby lower abdomen look bigger! I know it's melting, too, but not as quickly, and relativity is a bitch. I'm tracking all my foods, and I'm hovering around 8 to 9 hundred calories on a good day, sometimes less, but I am getting consistent patterns established. I can go on this way indefinitely, I think. In 30 minutes, on an empty stomach, I can bring 12-16 ounces of water. I can totally feel the water flow through the pylorus. More solid things, say, cottage cheese, I can take about 4 ounces, but I need to take a break in the middle. Fish, I can get 2-3 ounces in, and no more. And it must be very wet fish - not overcooked. I threw up once, and it was overcooked trout. I had slime first, and when I could not stand the discomfort any more, my husband said, just get it over with. I don't like to vomit. Myself needed convincing, but I felt better after. I've only puked once on the soft foods, so I count that as a win, too. I've tried some other more solids, too. A bite of carrot even. No problems. But I don't want to push it. I'm cooking and shopping out of habit, and my freezer is FULL. I think I will just stop cooking altogether. What I cooked tonight will literally take me a week to eat. Maybe over sharing here, but the first real poop was rough. A week after surgery, we were shopping and I realized what needed to happen. I made a nice normal poo, and then felt nausea. I think the intestines had been in a shock and the waking to do their job was too much for them. It's gotten better since, but its days between the little poops. Small eats means small outs. Doesn't bother me much. Similarly, sex was a cautious adventure, too. A week out, we managed a gentle try, three weeks after surgery, all systems were ready for anything. Win. And, as always when I am on a diet, I want to put hot sauce on everything. However, I don't think this is a good idea just yet. I am curious as to what comes next and to see how this goes. At one point several years ago, I was 293 pounds (5'11"). I worked hard and dieted down to 187. That was impossible to maintain through a divorce, a brief time of homelessness, a career change, and a new relationship. I'm at 227 as of this morning. I'm pretty sure that losing some more is in the cards, but how much more? At my lowest, I was thin looking. Some said too thin, but 10 or more pounds would not change that look much, not at my height. My doc says 149 is a healthy weight for me, but I think that is WAY too thin. I'd be a bag of bones! My boobs would be two empty purses with olives at the bottom! So, goal... 175, and then reevaluate? That's 52 pounds from here, and if I go 2 pounds per week that gets me there by summer. We shall see... Lastly, my husband is taking this opportunity to get himself back on track. He was banded 7-ish years ago. He dropped 150 pounds, but he's put 25 or so back on in the last year. We've been happy and eating like newlyweds... Anyway. He's been super supportive. His goal is 210, from his staring point of 275. Doing the math, from collective high weights to goals, 400 & 293 to 210 & 175, we will have lost a collective 308 pounds. That's like two people... It's us getting ourselves in better health together.

Walking around in a pool is excellent for fluid retention relief. 15 minutes of pool movement provides enough gentile pressure across your whole body to push much extra fluid back into your core where the kidney can dispose of it. That is why one has to pee after swimming like a Russian race horse on derby day. -
10 Days Post-Op: Amount of Food
Emilie.Lancaster replied to NJGuy78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not sure what you are asking. But, I think you are saying, did I eat too much? Are you in discomfort? Knowing what the last bite feels like is important and I think it takes some getting used to. My understanding is that if rupture your line, you will become super ill pretty fast. Fever and pain. That's all I got... -
New Whey Protein Shots
Emilie.Lancaster replied to Thecloude1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ugg. Isopure. Most flavors taste like feet. Apple Melon is tolerable and tastes better cut with water. Ya know, as far as protein, clear and tastes good go together, bone broth and clear meat stock is about the best there is. Sipping that all day may be the least bad option. -
What day was most painful for you?
Emilie.Lancaster replied to misi324's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My pain was the worst on surgery day, after I got sent home and then started the dry heaving. By the time my husband got me back to the hospital, I had started to go into shock. So, yeah. Day one. My advice is don't let the pain get ahead of you. Get the anti nausea meds - pronto. -
Stomach pain
Emilie.Lancaster replied to bluejeanbaby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I read my surgical report and did not realize the number of cuts the doc has to make to have the body let go of that part of the stomach which is removed. Quick pains that disappear quickly could be spasms or adhesions, sutures, but I bet that is very scary to experience. I can't wait to here what your doctor says. -
9 days post surgery questions
Emilie.Lancaster replied to Craig Wildi's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
One factor is how heavy were you pre surgery. I am at 1 month tomorrow, and I've only lost 21 or so pounds. At 249.6 on surgery day and 5'11", AND ALL ACTIONS BEING EQUAL, I won't loose as quickly as a person the same water, height, and calorie intake who starts at 360 lbs. Also, they may be sicker than you, or you may be hanging more muscle than them. But... This road leads to madness. You are comparing apples to oranges highway cones. If you are happy, just keep truckin'. -
Are you COLDER after surgery?

I keep hearing my cold spells are part hormones melting out of the fat, part anesthesia, part having less insulation. But cold don't need a reason. -
