Surgery In 2.5 Weeks and I Haven't Told Husband Yet...
amschuttpelz replied to Boldilocks's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hope you’re doing well....can’t wait to hear how everything turned out. I had a sleeve 3 years ago, and will be having a revision to the rny in the coming months. I’d love to be buddies! Message me! 😉 -
New here! Revision patient!
amschuttpelz posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi everyone! I was originally sleeved in March of 2016. I had an annoying burping thing pretty much from the beginning, but I lost about 90lbs in 6 months...and have held pretty steady since. Then the extreme reflux started! Fast forward to yesterday....I spoke with my surgeon and it has been decided that I need to be revised to an rny. Definitely not happy about it, but I’ve been taking 3 nexium a day and still having reflux and regurgitation. The newest issue appears to be an ulcer. This is really the last thing I wanted to do, but I’m very worried about the damage that’s being done to my esophagus. I have developed a raspy voice and scratchy throat, so I know it’s becoming a problem. It looks like I’ll have surgery either in March or April....I’ll probably know in a week or so. Anyone else here a revision from VSG to RNY?? -
New here! Revision patient!

Well....saw the surgeon yesterday. Was hoping for a surgery date so I can plan, but sadly it’s still up in the air. Maybe March, maybe April. It’s kind of making me crazy. I’m definitely not in a hurry, I am just a planner and need to know things. I did find out that I can’t use the Tespo like I had hoped. Taking pills sucks so I was hoping for an easier alternative. Not so much. So I went onto Bariatric Advantage and ordered some stuff to try. Any recommendations for great bariatric products? -

I’d love to connect with others in the area! There’s a support group for our hospital that meets once a month, however, since it’s a military hospital, we’re all pretty spread out. If anyone finds him, tell him to message me! Thanks! -

I am no longer losing weight....so I guess maintenance. That’s super disappointing to hear! I was really hoping there would be restriction with the new surgery. I’d definitely like to lose more weight. My surgeon told me I’d probably lose somewhere between 15-50lbs. I’m hoping I can squeeze more out of it than that. -
I've been looking for info as well!! So glad I found this thread!! I'll be having my revision in a few months.

I was originally sleeved on March 3, 2016, but I've been having some issues. I saw my surgeon recently for my one year appointment, and he said that the only way to fix my problems is to revise me from a VSG to an RNY. I'm a little freaked out honestly! I avoided that surgery to begin with because it scared me, now it looks like if I want to lead a normal life I need to do this. Of course I started reading stuff online, and I'm even more freaked out now! People talking about all the issues they've had, even talking about having reversals because things were so bad! Could anyone that's had a VSG to RNY please post your experience...either on here, or message me. I couldn't find a thread about this revision...just the band to RNY. Hoping someone out there has some info for me. Thanks!!

Anyone is San Francisco East bay area?
amschuttpelz replied to Karen Kenney's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am in Walnut Creek. I had my VSG on March 3, 2016...but it looks like I need a revision to a RNY. I'll be having it done at Travis AFB again of course. I told my surgeon that my sleeve is his handy work, and I don't want anyone else messing around in there! I am pretty hesitant about the RNY, and I'd like to talk to people that have done it. Please message me if you'd like to chat, or email me at: aschuttpelz@gmail.com Thanks!! -
I did have an EGD prior to surgery. They didn't find any damage from reflux, but they did find a hiatal hernia. I knew I had reflux when I chose the sleeve, however, there was no way to be sure whether or not fixing the hernia would fix the reflux. So I took the chance. Keep in mind, at that point, I was taking the lowest dose of nexium a couple of times a week...and there was no pain with it. This burping thing is the main issue though. It's ridiculous!
-
Well yes. Apparently the issues I'm having are SUPER rare according to my surgeon, but they do happen. So I am having really bad reflux (taking 80mg of Nexium daily), but that's not rare...I know a lot of people say that they have that issue. My big problem is the burping. Doesn't matter what I eat or drink, I burp. I don't mean cute little lady burps...I mean manly belching that lasts anywhere from 15 minutes to 2 hours depending on how much I ate or drank! It's really annoying, very uncomfortable, and down right embarrassing! The surgeon had me do an upper GI in which he saw that my sleeve was having some trouble emptying. So he did an EGD, and injected Botox into the pyloric valve at the bottom of the sleeve to hopefully make it stay open a little more so that my food can empty. Well, I just went for my one year appointment, and we discussed how things are going. Apparently the only way to fix this is to do a revision to the RNY. Still not sure how I feel about it.

Hi all! I am in Walnut Creek. I had my surgery done March 3, 2016...just passed my one year mark. Due to some complications from the sleeve, it looks like I'm going to have a revision to an RNY. I'd like to find people to talk to about all this. My husband is wonderful, but he hasn't experienced anything like this, so he doesn't have information or opinions to offer me. If anyone wants to chat, message me!!

Anyone having surgery at a military base?
amschuttpelz replied to cookarue's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for responding!! I'm pretty hopeful after reading what you wrote. I was thinking it was going to be a LONG process with LOTS of visits, and LOTS of waiting for something to happen. 2 months is amazing!! Would you mind updating me about your journey?? I know a lot of people are on here doing that, but having it all done at a military base kind of changes things. I want to know what to look forward to...and not, lol. Feel free to private message me, and I'll give you my email address. Thanks again! -
Anyone having surgery at a military base?
amschuttpelz replied to cookarue's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Can anyone that's having or has had their surgery done on a military base, tell me what the whole process is like? I went to see the plastic surgeon on base for something totally unrelated, but she said if I wanted she would have the bariatric dept call me to start the process. I'm just curious what I'm in for. Were there a lot of visits, etc? I live about 45 mins away from the base so I'm hoping it's not a ton. Oh...to the person who asked about plastic surgery....I couldn't help myself, so I asked the doctor about a tummy tuck and a breast lift while I was there. She said (here at this base), it's done on a fee schedule. She said she only charges for one procedure. So basically, a breast lift and a tummy tuck together would normally cost about $20k...at this base it's about $5k.
