  1. Congratulations on your surgery!! I hope you are doing well. I still have 13 weeks left of the diet/exercise program and then I can meet with my surgeon. I found out yesterday that I have sleep apnea and will be needing another sleep study with the CPAP. yay. I am so very tired of waiting, I started this process in December and if feels like forever. I am still positive though and trying to slowly take pounds off. At least now I know that I have a co-morbidity with the apnea, so if I go under the 40 BMI I will still be eligible. Let us all know how things are going with your post op!
  2. As many have said before me, there are several straws that have broken my camels back. For me it is just being tired of being tired & feeling like crap all the time. I have three German Shepherds that I would love to walk but there is too much pain in my back and hips to tolerate it. I have recently discovered the restaurant booth issue. I have always been the one to ask for a booth because they are more comfortable. Not anymore!! Not only are they not comfortable but when I look across at my husband and see that he has a huge amount of room between him and the table even after I pushed the table over, is ridiculous. I have also recently discovered Facetime which is awesome because I get to see my daughter while I am talking to her but ugh, why do I have to see myself as well! I despise having my picture taken and for some reason, people who are not obese do not seem to understand that. I have been outright rude sometimes to avoid it & have had to practically beg to not have my picture shared on facebook. I don't want to be that person anymore. I am tired of having to sit on a stool to fix dinner or do dishes. I am tired of having to take breaks when I am cleaning house. I have been in denial for way too long. I have used food and alcohol to avoid dealing with myself. I am ready to find a way to love myself. I was actually just recently promoted at work. I was completely blown away by this promotion because of my self-image issues, I didn't think I had a chance. I started my WL journey in Dec 2015 and am not looking back. I believe that 2016 will be my year to shine. I am half way through my 6 month diet/exercise program and have the sleep study in May. After that I will hopefully be scheduled for surgery in July. I have read this entire feed and I am so grateful for everyone's input. A lot of what has been said really hits home for me & I wish you all the best of luck in your WL journey.
  3. That is soooooooo true! I guess that is why I get so angry when people want to "do pictures". Yuck! I can't wait till I want to do that again.
  4. I am 3 months into my 6 month diet & exercise program. All of my appointments are complete. Now all I can do is wait until my 6 months is up. I have a couple of questions: My surgeon is requiring me to pay up front before they will schedule surgery. I have called and asked for a quote of sorts, something to give me an idea of how much I need be saving. I have insurance with BC/BS of Georgia. My individual deductible is $3800 & family is $7600. So far the insurance has covered the majority of the costs. I also had $1200 in an HRA account which has been used. I was able to find out the the surgeon charges $3480 for Gastric Bypass and $2575 for the Sleeve. I was told that his fees are what I need to cover to get a surgery date. I just wish I could get a straight answer. Has anyone else had to deal with this and approximately how much out of pocket did you have to pay to the surgeon. Also, I will not be able to meet with the surgeon until my 6 months is up. Is that normal? I would have thought that a consult of some sorts would be part of the evaluation process. Any thoughts are appreciated.
  5. I kinda figured that would be the case. My 6 month diet/exercise program is up the middle of June. I am thinking that my surgery will be in August. I'm trying to give enough time for surgeon appt., insurance approval and scheduling of surgery date. Am I being realistic or does that seem like too much time?

    My consultation...

  7. I'm only 3 months into the 6 month diet/exercise. I have had all of my appointments/evaluations. Did an Oxygen study at home last night. Waiting to hear back to see if I need to do the sleep study or not. Where are you from in VA? I just moved to NC 1.5 years ago from Harrisonburg, VA. I would have never even considered WLS if I hadn't moved here. I am still in the "Whatever" mode right now because I know it will still be awhile yet. Just trying to keep myself busy. Good luck to you!
  8. I did meet one of the surgeons during the educational seminar, he also performed my Endoscopy. But I have not had an opportunity to sit down with him and ask questions. I have been to several support group meetings, but that isn't the same as being one on one with the surgeon. I just hope I'm not making a mistake with this particular group.
  9. Sorry for all of the duplicate posts! I'm still new here and the internet isn't cooperating. Did you just now find that out or have you known?
  10. I appreciate your input, thank you very much. I am aware of additional costs that will be applied, all of those will go to insurance first and then I will be billed. I'm just wondering how much I need just to schedule the surgery. In other words, the surgeons fee. I know you can't tell me that, but I do appreciate your input. 11. How far in advance did they do that? Or was it right before your surgery?
  12. I'm not sure I understand why anyone would lose less with the sleeve procedure. Aren't diet and exercise with the tool that gets you to the goal you want? Not the type of procedure? Why does it matter which procedure you use if you are doing these things, shouldn't you continue to lose no matter what? I'm new at this, so I'm just wondering.
  13. My name is Shelley and I am new to my weight loss journey. I am 48 days into my 180 day or 6 month, diet and exercise insurance required program. I am coming up on my 3rd weigh in for this as well. I have had my Cardiologist evaluation and passed with flying colors. Feb. is a big month for me as I have Pulmonary evaluation, Nutritionist, Endoscopy, Bariatric testing & Psych evaluation. I have attended two support group meetings. The first of which I was the center of attention, which I did not like at all. The second was better as there were more people and the focus was not all on me. I currently weigh 280 lbs. BMI is 46.6. My highest weight was when I started this process at 290 lbs. My choice of surgery at this point is Gastric Bypass since I have a terrible sweet tooth and love all things fried. My husband is being incredibly supportive and I believe he wants to get healthier as well. He doesn't have near as much to lose but the scales have been moving up on him the last few months. He wants to start working out at a gym, which I have told him is great, but I am not ready for that yet. I want to lose enough so that it doesn't hurt my back to stand or walk further than to the mailbox and back. I have done an incredible amount of research and I am presently reading the Big Book on Gastric Bypass. Learning a lot from that. I also watched All Of Me, which I was not very impressed with at all. I like to look at peoples stories on You tube as well. I am open to discussing anything at this point since I have not officially chosen a surgeon or surgery type yet. Where I am at at this point is choosing between two surgeons where I have been attending meetings as well as evaluations. I believe I will be choosing the surgeon that presented information at the weight loss surgery seminar. I look forward to having conversations with you all soon.
  14. Thank you for sharing with me. I have also struggled with the sleeve vs RNY. I will probably go with RNY. I am just so very excited about the whole thing. I have never been a very patient person but I think that the 6 month diet exercise was a good thing for me. So that I could really take a look at and think about what I am doing. I can also be over-analytical, which doesn't help.
