Under 200lbs & want the VGS
sallo replied to SouthernSunshine's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi, I don't really have any information about the sleeve or being approved, but I did just have bypass and have Dilated Cardiomyopathy. At least your heart looks good enough to proceed. Has your Cardiologist approved or you haven't asked yet? Fortunately my EF is also at the normal range now, 57% with minimal regurgitation. Good luck to you. -
38 BMI and only 75 to lose
sallo replied to claddagh66's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'd say your definitely making the right decision for yourself. If you ever need to talk I'm here for you. I know it's very scary. I keep trying to look at the end like a year from now and how good we will feel! Hang in there and message me anytime! Hiya, Thanks for your message. I'm 3 days out and at home resting up. The soreness is going away, but I've been very emotional and thinking wtf have I done. I know the beginning is difficult...I just want to eat normal food again. It's also a hassle crushing all my meds, dissolving some and having to inject a blood thinner twice a day to prevent clots. I'm sure it will get better and my attitude will improve lol -

Hiya, my BMI is 38 & I'm 106KG (234lb). I'm having bypass due to Type 2 Diabetes & a cardiac condition. I've lost 6kg since the start of Jan & my surgery is in 2 days time. I'm so scared! -
Hi, I'm day 12 into the Optifast diet. Are you doing the intensive phase? (ie. just Opti & greens?). You're doing it for a long time if you've already done 3 weeks and surgery isn't until Feb 10. Mine was scheduled for Feb 5, but has now been pushed back to mid Feb. Tonight I broke the 'diet' and had pizza for dinner. Now I've gotta get back on track.

Looking for people who are just starting the bariatric process
sallo replied to XxStephYxX's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't have one. Ask if they use one or not. From what I can tell most don't. They will have you up and walking pretty quickly so you really won't need one. From wjat I've read they only insert catheters if the surgery is open & not laparoscopic/keyhole. -

you're lucky. Im5on day 7 of shakes & veggies/salad. I know I'm going to have a cheat meal before it's over- even if it's just a steak & potato! -
Hi everyone, I'm scheduled to start the 3 week pre op liquid diet on Friday & I'm dreading it. I'm already worried I'm going to cave & be hungry. I've been replacing 2 meals for the last couple of weeks to try to transition easier. My surgery is Feb 5 & I'm getting very emotional. I guess that's to be expected? One minute I'm positive & the next I'm wondering if I'm going to die from complications & start to tear up. I've thought about this op for years & decided a year ago that I'd do it & now I'm petrified of the changes. I'm a tragic comfort eater & I think my heads all over the place because I've been making a concerted effort to stop. I was referred to a psychologist by the surgeon but she's on holidays. I'm 32, 110kg (250ish lb), have Type 2 diabetes & a heart condition (dilated cardiomyopathy). I keep asking myself if I can lose the weight alone, but I don't think I can anymore. But the psych & surgeon keep telling me I can't put my life in the hands of others to fix me. I can already tell the next few months are going to be emotionally overwhelming. I also worry when I read about people feeling more lethargic than they felt pre op & that some medication (like anti depressants) sometimes don't metabolize properly post op. Sorry for the scatterbrain post. Sally

I agree! Expecting a person who has problems over eating to follow a liquid diet is beyond ridiculous! -

Your surgical team including your nutritionist can better explain their specifics as no two centers are exactly alike. My 3 month pre-op process was a 13wk fitness program requiring me to work out at least 30 mins 3x wkly. I also had to meet with my nutritionist 4x over that course. My plan didn't require a specific diet other than to learning to cut out bad carbs and processed sugars. I also wasn't required to lose a specific amount of weight pre-op. Wow, it's amazing how the plans differ. I've only seen a Nutritionist once (due another session next week), no exercise programme & just this 3 week pre op diet. -

Hiya, I started the 3 week pre op diet today of Optifast VLCD products & salad/veg. My surgery is booked for Feb 5, providing my endoscopy goes well. The first day has sucked!! I think it's only 800 calories. Everyone says it gets better....I bloody hope so! -
Thank you both for your wise words. It really does seem like the best option for getting my health under control, and weight loss is just a bonus. I suppose one of my other key goals is wanting to have children. I don't know if I'd even be able to conceive in my current condition, but I know I wouldn't have the energy level to do it. I'm going to try my best to look at this experience positively and not focus on the food and what I'm missing. Thanks again x

Why do some surgeons do it & some don't? I've heard its to shrink your liver & get you used to a liquid diet so you find it easier post op.

Mine is Feb 5 & I need to start the liquid diet/steamed veggies 3 weeks prior.

Thanks for the tips everyone. I'm going to start 3 Opti's and a proper dinner for the next week. I'm going to attempt to drink 2 litres of Water a day & cut down to one diet coke. I'm going to be so grumpy!!! I think I'll be less anxious if I do this and see that the weight loss is possible. Then I need to do it properly the few weeks leading to surgery in Feb 5.

Hi everyone, This is my first post. I'm 112kg (250lbs) and booked in for Gastric Bypass Feb 5 2016. I'm worried that I won't lose enough weight in time & the surgeon won't agree to proceed. The dietitian has told me to start Optifast low calorie shakes 3 weeks beforehand along with salad/vegetables. Based on my BMI, she said I should lose 7.8kg in that time (approx 15lb). Is this even possible?? I think I need to start right now. She said I can have 4 Optifast shakes/products per day and the appropriate veggies etc Any advice? Should I just replace 1 or 2 meals to start with then go 'full intensity' the last 3 weeks? I've had a year to prepare and feel like I've stupidly left it too late! Thank you.

My date is Feb 5 ???? so you're just doing opti- not eating anything else? When are u starting it?

Thanks so much for your replies. I definitely need to increase exercise & cut down the Diet Coke. I drink at least 2 cans a day, so that's going to be difficult! Also need to research how I'm going to go taking my medications post surgery. Hopefully there's a few posts on this forum.
