Can't feed the food addition... Now what?
sallo replied to swizzle's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I felt exactly the same. I'm almost 8 weeks out and it is getting better. -
Has anyone used super for gastric bypass
sallo replied to denniso's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Dennis, I was approved for early release of super for compassionate reasons. I had to have my surgeon & GP fill out an application from the Dept of Human Services. It was a relatively straight forward process. I also had the appropriate level of hospital cover through Bupa and waited the 12 months. My surgery was around $5500 all up, but it would have been 11 or 13 grand if I had no cover (I think...sorry my memory is sketchy). I would recommend waiting the 12 months so you can save some of your money. Give me a bell if you have any further questions. I'm from SA & had my GB on Feb 10. -
I'm 7 weeks out and still burp a lot lol

I feel like I'm not doing the right thing
sallo replied to sallo's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'd like to thank you all for your observations & advice. I've started to log my fluid/fluid intake and started to go walking around the neighborhood. I'm feeling much better for making an effort to contribute to this weight loss journey. I definitely have some mental hurdles to overcome....I still crave my trigger sweet foods and I feel guilty for having surgery and taking the 'easy way out'. I know having the surgery was the best decision for my health, but it's going to take a while to 'forgive' myself for not losing the old fashioned way. I don't want to waste this gift though, and I'll try my hardest to do the right thing. Thanks again everyone, it means a lot x -
I understand. I ate junk right to the end & didnt lose weight until the last 2 months, despite having a year to preparr. Don't get too caught up in what you will & wont be able to eat post op. I have to say I'm in mournimg of bread, but you just have to make peace with it. Good luck.

Hi, I had one inserted a year ago and have never looked back. I was 32, no kids & didn't track my cycle either. They made me take some Ibuprofen beforehand (thankfully) and the worst part of it all was cramping while the cervix dilates. It can take some time because you can't help but feel tense lol I was crampy that night and used a warm wheatbag to ease the pain. From what I remember, I had light spotting for a few weeks and experience no bleeding whatsoever now. Good luck. Try to relax as much as you can to make the process easier.

Hello, Can someone please explain how Protein affects weight loss? I'm concerned because I feel like I'm not getting enough in. I do have Optifast shakes left from the pre-op stage, but I'm hesitant to drink them as they're quite high in sugar (17.8 grams) per serving. Can anyone recommend a good tasting, low sugar Protein powder available in Australia? Thank you.

How does protein affect weight loss?
sallo replied to sallo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for your replies- it makes sense. I really have to lift my game! -
I understand. I've been eating whatever goes down and is tolerated, even if it's not the best choice health wise. I'm going to try and do better this week. I don't want to fall back into old habits either.

Wow! Do you have a job?? 2 hrs a day is massive. -
I hope this isn't taken the wrong way, but your before pic os great. You didn't look like you needed WLS.

They took me off my Metformin, but I still think my sugars are slightly too high. I wonder if I should go back on it for a while.

Hiya, I only had bypass done at the start of February & started at 250 lbs. I too have a heart condition (Dilated Cardiomyopathy) and was given the all clear from my Cardiologist. I queried whether bypass would hinder absorption of medications and he said no. There's still a tiny bit in my brain that worries that it will and I will end up sick again. All I can do is remain positive. I also worry about malnutrition, but I already was malnourished with the garbage I ate. My surgeon suggested bypass to me because I'm more of a 'sweet eater' than a general 'grazer'. I agreed because it has the operation has a long history and there's no way I'm letting anyone remove most of my stomach!! He said stomach tissue is important for grafts in the case of Esophageal cancer. Not saying it's going to happen- but I like the option. Just my 2 cents (from a noob).

Hi, I've sent a friend request -
Oatmeal and my pouch are not friends

I feel your pain. I did it the other day with boiled egg & vomited for the first time since surgery. -
Thank you. I believe I've hit one (surgery was 2/10). Gotta be patient
-
Happened to me today with a boiled egg. I don't know what I was thinking! It got stuck in my chest and I threw it up. Won't be doing that again!

It's so weird how everyone's post op diets differ. My RNY was Feb 10th & I get to start soft foods tomorrow. Anyway, my biggest craving so far has been fish! Also a strange one lol
-
And it sounds to me like you're more focused on being skinny & that's dangerous. As others have mentioned, this surgery isn't easy. I'm not trying to be harsh, but I feel like I need to be honest. All the best with whatever you decide.
-
Being 2 weeks out, I wouldnt recommend bypass unless you have co morbidities. Sorry, just saying.
-
All I know is that as a sweet eater, I was recommended the bypass over sleeve. I also felt assured the surgery has a long history & none of my stomach would be physically taken out.
-
Hi all, Tomorrow marks a week since by bypass. My team advised a puree diet after the barium x-ray (the following day) to make sure nothing leaked. I feel like everywhere I read, people started on clear fluids for up to 2 weeks. I understand each surgeon & nutritionist is different, but it makes me worry I'm going too fast! I keep reading the information to make sure I'm doing the right thing, and I'm pretty sure I am. Why does it differ so much??

Congrats. I had mine the same day & have only lost 6lbs. I guess it depends on starting weight?? I thought i may have dropped more. -
Bypass on 2/9, drinking and eating questions.
sallo replied to ml832001's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I got mine on the 10th and feel the same way! How are you supposed to even consume all that Protein with how little we're allowed to eat & drink?? I just got back from a walk and felt like I could guzzle a glass of Water. I really didn't need to sip. -
Clear or puree after surgery
