Lol! After taking 5 meds for a heart condition, I was happy to get off anything. Now I'm not too sure... Sent from my SM-G900I using the BariatricPal App

Howdy, no palpitations. I had dilated cardiomyopathy several years ago & my heart function is back to normal. He also ceased a couple of other meds. It's frustrating gaining the water weight back when I've only been losing. I sure hope it settles down so I can start dropping more weight. Sent from my SM-G900I using the BariatricPal App I also don't know if I should increasey Fluid intake to counteract the retention or leave it as it is. So much different medical advice on what we can eat post op.

So much different medical advice on what we can eat post op.
sallo replied to Megan1982's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't believe that people are told no carbs until all weight is lost. My Nutritionist & surgeon allowed me to eat anything (within reason) and I've lost weight as successfully as someone with a restricted diet. I also stopped Protein shakes as soon as I could tolerate solid foods. Post op diets in America sound hard core! Anyhow, I agree with eating greek yogurt. I used to have some with fruit puree to jazz it up. -
Maybe you're working out too much & not eating enough. Your body could be hanging on to the weight because you're using so much energy. I dont track anything & haven't experienced any stalls (yet). Maybe loosen up a bit? Sent from my SM-G900I using the BariatricPal App

Thanks for sharing. I can't understand why some people are so unsupportive & quick to judge someone who is struggling. I mean, we all got WLS because we didn't know when or how to stop eating, right?? I can't stand the people who get all high and mighty. I'm only 4 months out & have started to struggle as I can tolerate more foods. Good luck getting back on track.

Who do you share the news with?

I told everyone, but I make it my duty to inform people of the struggles & issues to inform them it was not the easy way out. -
Don't shoot the messenger- carbonated drinks
sallo replied to LisaMergs's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi Lisa, I too have had a few sips of Diet Coke & it was great, but the bubbles crept back up and it was just too hard lol I also burp enough already without adding to the cause. My Nutritionist said I can have it occasionally if I choose. I'll have a sip every now & then...it will never compare to my old habit of 3 cans a day -
Welcome Jonno. Nice to see another Aussie here (even if you're from the UK)

What's your comfort food?
sallo replied to foodfighter78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What has your surgeon or nutritionist said about that? That's a lot of food you can't tolerate, you poor thing. -
Didn't know it would be so hard
sallo replied to dcd1397's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My hint would be to weigh yourself once a week or so. For days you think you're not losing anything, then suddenly bam, 2 pounds comes off. Save your sanity lol -
Yet I have no problem with pasta or rice. It really does vary from person to person I don't think I have dumped yet, but I did get a really upset tummy when I ate too much chocolate bunny over easter.

Transitioning to regular diet
sallo replied to kahula18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i wouldn't worry too much. At 2 weeks out your food choices are limited & you need those vegetable soup carbs. I'd be more focused on them when your in a later food stage. Im in week 9 & haven't been too worried about eating them in moderation. My weight loss has been great. -
Awesome. One of my deciding factors was to help my heart condition too. I'm around 9 weeks out now.

How many calories per day in the first few months?
sallo replied to swizzle's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I stopped protein shakes around a month in. My dietician wanted me getting protein in via food. Lucky because I was sick of the shakes after the pre op phase lol -

I mean struggling as in I'm not putting much effort into eating them lol I ate broccoli tonight & it haa been a success. I need to eat more to help with the bowels I think. I hate relying on medications. -

I'm only 2 months out, but I was also weaned off Protein Shakes weeks ago. I was only on puree for a couple of weeks too. I'm struggling with my veggie consumption and have been eating the protein first. -
Hi all, I had my 8 week visit with the Dietician today and have been progressed onto 'normal foods'. Yayyy! I've lost 12.5kg (28 lb) since my Op & feel good. She was happy with my weight loss, but slightly concerned how quickly I'm losing and queried whether I have been eating enough. I assured her that I have and don't let myself get too hungry. I've only been walking 2-3 times a week and she doesn't recommend upping the ante just yet as I'm still recovering. She said I can try toast, crispbread, soft drink & I alcohol (keeping in mind it will affect me more). I also told her how I've eaten chocolate and wasn't scolded- just told it's a 'sometimes food' and to know my limits. It was pleasantly refreshing because some people in the bariatric community talk like it's the antichrist lol I can hear the US weight loss patients collectively gasp at how much free reign I'm allowed. I have faith in her professional advice as she works closely with my surgeon, who is well regarded in my state & has trained most other GB surgeons in the city. What I am wondering is whether other people have been given the same advice. I don't really have much contact with other GB patients in Australia, so can't compare. I wonder whether pre & post op diets are that much stricter in the US because insurance companies fund the surgery costs, therefore want the patient to drop weight super quickly? I might be way off....I don't know much about US insurance. I just know that I paid hospital cover for 12 months and was instantly approved for surgery, whereas it seems like the process is much more complicated in America. So glad to be progressing on to the next stage in this journey.

It sounds like you are doing great. I am in the US and I did gasp when I read your NUT recommended you drink carbonation and alcohol, especially so early post-op. My insurance didn't cover my surgery, but my surgeon is excellent and has performed thousands of successful surgeries. You didn't mention Protein at all. My primary focus was and is getting AT LEAST 100 grams protein and 64 oz of (non carbonated, no caffeinated, and nonalcoholic) liquid a day. on my next appt we are discussing counting protein ☺Great! According to my surgeon getting enough protein is critical: for healing and for weight loss. I have found that getting in my protein is a major success factor. My dietician has said its important, but I've also made sure I've aimed for high protein because of what I've read on this forum ☺ I find that it satiates my hunger and helps me to not overeat.

Transitioning to regular diet

I'm 8 weeks out today Seafood has been good for me. chicken breast & thigh, not so much. -
Hi all, I had GB on Feb 10th & have lost around 9 kilos since. I'm realising despite the loss, I'm really not contributing much. I barely exercise, I don't measure my portions anymore, I don't journal anything (I wasn't told to by any of my team), I'm able to gulp liquids down & I succumbed to chocolate & a smalllll bit of cheesecake. I'm worried this is all going to eventually bite me on the ass. I have been feeling emotionally out of sorts lately, so perhaps that's a factor. I also don't want to train too hard & lose weight so quickly that my skin suffers. I know that I should walk every day, but my head says why bother, I'll lose weight anyway. This won't always be the case...I should be blasting through this period for maximum results. Can anyone else relate?

Hi Sallo are you in Perth by any chance? Your surgeon sounds a lot like my proffessor surgeon. So glad to find another Aussie on here! Did you have RNY or a "mini"/omega loop bypass? I look forward to following your progess...my surgery is 19 April. Scared as hell!!! Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App Hello fellow Aussie, Close- I'm in Adelaide I had RNY and stayed in hospital 2 nights. No complications thus far (touch wood)! I haven't even heard of that other procedure. Which one are you getting?
