Help - I gained 4 pounds
FinallyFree replied to Teestir333's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tee, My insurance company and the medicaid office at the state level confirmed what mamma59 wrote. So hang in there, drink lots of Water, and don't beat yourself up! -
Helllllp Please!!!
FinallyFree replied to LOOKIN2LOOSE's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lookin2loose, YOUR'E OK. Hind site is great, and I'm looking back to where you are now. It's your husband's birthday, and you're going to go out to a nice restaurant and have Soup. Last year, you ate the whole entree, including appatizer, and desert and cake and ice cream later in the day. Right???????? Well next year, honey, you will go out proudly with your husband as a "HOTTIE" which do you think would be the best gift you could give to your husband (and yourself)? Hang in there. You're freaking out on the negative, but look at the positive! -
I didn't realize how self defensive and angry I was when I was heavy....now I am much more accepting and understanding of others. I was surprised at an angry look I received from a woman in a store a few months ago. Then I realized she was angry at me because she thought I looked nice and slim, and she didn't. WOW!

I've noticed I crave ice cream after all my surgeries I've had over the years. Affects from the anethesia? I'm not sure, but it does pass.

Welcome, Gigim. Your best course of action would be to contact your insurance company first and find out the guidelines for bariatric surgery.
I had to be on a 6 mo. supervised diet with my GP, have 4 co morbidities, and have 5 yrs of dr. records showing my wgt.

Disappointed No Weight loss week 2
FinallyFree replied to alice150's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Alice! Eleven pounds is fantastic! It sounds like your body has gone into shock and is trying to save you from yourself! I know it's hard but it sounds like you might be having a problem with getting enough Water. Remember, without enough water with your daily food intake you're making cement! Right now it's all about YOU and what you are eating. It's a fine balance. Welcome to the other side! You can do it! -
Yay my surgery date is April 23rd-I'm scared
FinallyFree replied to yvonneb3's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey, Yvonne!!! I too had a defeatist attitude, but decided to let it go when I had the surgery, stop making it so difficult for myself this time and just go with it!! It's worked! You are going to look so great by the start of summer. -
Rick, If you went to your dr. for wgt loss, there would be documetation from the dr. stating he told you to lose wgt and how much you weighed at the appt. I had 5 years of my medical records from 5 drs. sent to the insurance company. It showed a steady wgt. gain, minimum loss. But every visit had a wgt. even if the visit was for a sinus infection, etc. Good luck!

Jaylow, I paniced too when I went shopping and discovered I fit into "normal" size clothes. The only advice I'd like to offer is, don't buy too many items in the extra large size. You'll be out of them before you know it when banded. Isn't it great!!!!

Great - 6 months of diet before band
FinallyFree replied to Hope4Joy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there, it will be worth it!! I had to go through the same process. I asked the insurance company what would happen if I lost too much wgt. The agent reassured me the wgt loss would be good for me, but the 6 mo. program is set up to filter out the ones who can't follow the plan for 6 mo. I gained 9 lbs. and over 6 months lost 13, but because I kept the appts. and filled out the necessary paperwork when it was due, I was approved. 6 months is a short period of time, and it will go fast! -

FinallyFree replied to Tangerine4's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
T. With the gastric bypass, etc. people have to be careful of mal absorbption for the rest of their lives. That was a major concern to me. I was also worried because I knew in my heart of hearts I could eat around gastric by pass. With the band I will be able have a fill when I need it. Just my opinion. -
Why do you ask, Kathy? What concerns do you have that we can help you with?
-
Miralax worked for me along with a daily Activa yogurt. The benefiber chewable and powder did nothing.

Tangerine, How is it going? -
Discouraged and Overwhelmed!!
FinallyFree replied to Tamihott's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tamihott, I spoke with a rep. at 3 insurance companies, and all told me the same thing....It's not if you lose nor how much you lose during the 6 mo. wgt loss program but if you can stick to it and show you are trying to lose. As for the year you are missing....did you have an annual pap or mamogram, visit to the public health nurse you could provide? Best of Luck to you hang in there!! I did and was approved! -
Have not been to Dr. in 3 yrs.. I need 5 yr history
FinallyFree replied to MyNuLife's topic in Insurance & Financing
Did you not have an annual pap or mamogram during the 3 yrs? I used any and all dr. records I could find for the 5 yr period. -
Staying in Hospital
FinallyFree replied to ronwifey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to stay overnight too. Ronwifey, make sure you get up and walk as much as possible!! It will help relieve gas and help get the anesthesia out of your system sooner. -
Out of my element - need some guidance
FinallyFree replied to 65toGo's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Please call your insurance company and find out what is covered. They will tell you what the guidelines are for qualifying. Make sure you get the name of the person you talk to. Good luck!! -
What did your dr. say when you told him/her about only losing when you stuck to liquids? How did the fill go? How are you feeling now?
-
Approved..had Surgery..now Insurance Is Trying Not To Pay!
FinallyFree replied to CATHY1102's topic in Insurance & Financing
Cathy, the same thing happened to me. I called the hospital and insurance company, it turned out to be what QTkidsmom described. The insurance company was waiting for paperwork, and according to both the hospital and insurance co. this can take up to 3 weeks before being received. Don't freak out, especially since you have your approval letter. Be nice on the phone, it will be ok. -
It must be because I had the same problem!! For months I felt like my body was shedding old fat dead cells, my husband would scratch my back several times a night. Eventually the itching stops.

Angeleyes, Do you know what is going on with your thyroid? Do you think you had thyroid problems before your band? I have a friend who is interested in the band, but she has thyroid problems and is wondering if she could still have the band. slcmommy!! You go!! I've posted before I added a ticker to my signature. I've lost 75 lbs since Jan. 07, was banded June 07. My bmi dropped from 38.7 if I remember correctly to 24. Keep us updated on your progress!
