GI Ills:: Foreign Travel Post VSG

Doesn't anyone on this board travel outside the country? How have you dealt with it post VSG? Took all the usual precautions with bottled Water, etc. I would hate to think that my traveling days are over now that my stomach is small.

    United Healthcare - Just Beginning

Had UHC and approval was easy but did have to do the six mos nutrition classes. Needed clearance from cardio, polmonologist, & psych, too. They required co-pays and there was a $250.00 inpatient deductible, too. The total bill said $26,000+ so I feel like it's a small outlay of cash in retrospect. Anyone struggling?

I am loosing more slowly and stalling more than I expected to as well. Being sick may impact your weight loss as well as not exercising. Good job staying away from the carbs; we all know how hard that can be!! Be patient with yourself and make friends with Beans. Protein supplements with dairy intolerance

You are right to look into this beforehand. I did not realize the degree of my food allergies and it has definitely made things challenging. Having a hard time finding Protein powders that are tolerable and at 2 mos post surgery getting the stink eye for not consuming enough protein. I found Garden of Life protein powders to work for me. Organic, gluten free, dairy free soy free. Good luck to you and let us know what you find Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    How much can you eat

Hey All, I am 8 weeks post op and ate an entire 5 inch sub this weekend! It was so good I just gobbled it up but paid for it later. I don't throw up when I eat too much but kinda wish I did. Just feel really miserable for a while. Not sure why but I have been able to tolerate most foods since about 2 wks post op. Milk, spicy and carbonated stuff don't work well but just about everything else seems to be ok, in much smaller amounts than pre-surgery though. Sometimes I wonder if it would be better if I couldn't tolerate most things but as long as the weight is coming off its all good. I tackle the restaurant issue by getting stuff boxed up and eating only what feels comfortable. I find myself more tempted to drink fluids with my meals at restaurants. My family "support team" will gently remind me not to drink that glass of Water at the table
  7. Hello Fellow Delawarean! Having the same slow weight loss issue. I think its better in the long run if it DOES come off more slowly. I'm not really keen on the whole skin removal thing and the more rapid the loss the greater likelihood of that happening. As long as the scale is moving in the right direction I can be ok with it.

    Dates & Weights

Congratulations and thanks for posting. Looking at weight loss by the month is a good idea. I see after the first three months your weight loss slowed a bit, too. Its so helpful to know how others have progressed to get a benchmark of where you should be.

    Dates & Weights

I had surgery the same day. I'm down 26. I saw my doctor today and they said I am on track. I thought it'd be more as well. I've been in a stall for almost two weeks, for the weight on the scale. When I take my measurements I have still been losing. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App I wish I started out doing my measurements. I reached my stall at 3 weeks but I can tell I'm losing inches. Surgery: 1-22-16 Down: 21 pounds Didn't do measurements from the beginning either. I will try that. I am down a couple lbs since my last post but its definitely slowed. Everyone in my house has been sick except me in the last two weeks. Yay!! bariatric Vitamin regiment! So I guess I should be happy I'm not sick at least.

    HELLO JANUARY SLEEVERS!

I was a 1/6 surgery, too. Surgery went very well. Quick recovery but now stalled out after losing 23lbs post surgery.

    HELLO JANUARY SLEEVERS!

Hi There!! I am a 1/6 surgery, too. My recovery was very quick as well. Did not throw up once! Now I seem to be slowing down with my weight loss. Still can't eat much, so can't figure out why. Always had this problem with dieting before and was really hoping with the sleeve it would be different.

    Dates & Weights

1/6 23 lbs I feel like it should be more but as long as I keep losing it'll be ok. Feel like I hit my first stall around Valentines Day and I'm still stuck. Didn't think it would happen this soon. Haven't been able to exercise with all the yucky weather. I'm sure that doesn't help. Any suggestions on breaking a stall are most welcome and appreciated.
  13. Hey Everybody! Hello! Glad to see a place for January Sleevers. All through December while I was suffering through my Pre-Op diet there was no Jan Sleever area. Well, glad to see that's changed!! Went into surgery at 226lbs on 1/6/16 and am 208 right now. Don't want to lose it too quickly. Would like to avoid the plastic surgery/skin removal if possible. I hear that's a lot more painful than WLS. So, lots of firming lotion everywhere, lol
  14. Homemade Soups and stews were my favorites.Sugare free puddings. The cream of wheat was helpful, too. I have luckily not had problems with nausea so my biggest issue was just getting that uncomf feeling when I overate. I do think people are spot on about trying not to focus on the food as much as other outlets to be successful with weight loss. That said, old habits die hard and it may be good to have a few lower calorie favorites to fall back on to make it through. I used to not be so thrilled about Crystal Light but now its my best friend, lol.

    Fit Bits

Hi! II would like to join up my email is andrea@mystwood.net Thanks!
  16. I appreciate your honesty. Anytime I've tried to eat stuff I wasn't suppose to my stomach let me know pretty quick and that was that. I'm guessing that's why people throw up so much at the beginning of this. According the program director of my bariatric unit everyone progresses at different rates with what they are able to tolerate. Listen to your body, if it complains put down your fork.Everybody slips up sometimes or we wouldn't be here in the first place, would we?

    Low BMI and Gastric Sleeve

Yes, I have had many people say "why are you having WLS you are not that big ",too. Could not have waited until I was "that big" because if I had I would have been dead!I have prediabetes, sleep apnea, joint pain, high cholestoral, borderline high blood pressure, etc. this is not vanity it is insurance that I will be alive to see my kids graduate from college and see my grandchildren. Many in my family were not so lucky. That said, some will never understand so I would think before telling people who don't really need to know.

If this wasn't so pathetic it would be hilarious

Wow, that is bleak. If it makes you feel any better my 20 something is having the same issues. What about trying some in- person experiences where you can meet face to face? I live in the Philly area and they have these adventure dating singles meet up programs. You do a fun activity like kayaking a river with other singles. I have been married 25 years but I met my hubby on a blind date so "keep the faith" and try some non-cyber possibilities. Good Luck in your search.

    HELLO JANUARY SLEEVERS!

Had my surgery 1/6/16. Getting bored with the liquid diet but feel pretty good otherwise. Glad to have a Jan 2016 Sleeve Group up and running. Welcome to the New Year!
  20. I was out of it from the anesthesia at first but tried to get up and walking asap. Felt like I had been punched in the stomach; sore but not terrible. Did not vomit at all! This was my big fear. Yay!! Lots of gas to get rid of but the more I moved the faster it seemed to dissipate. In week two now and feeling good, almost too good, because I want to eat different foods. Finding it challenging to stick to the liquid diet already. Gotta stick to the plan! Hard to stay regular and the Colace plus exercise doesn't seem to help too much. I miss my morning java My BM's are like those first post-baby BM's, girls, yeck ! All in all this surgery wasn't too bad. I just hope I can keep up with the weight loss.

    Complications

They told me my heart was enlarged after I had my echo - never knew that but am always out of breath so not really surprised. They cleared me for surgery then at last appt w/surgeon he wanted another EKG so went to my internal medicine doc and they did one - said possible septal infarction, not good. now wondering if am having my surgery next week. So I understand why you are concerned.
  23. First off, congrats on your surgery! Hope you are feeling well and healing comfortably. Its difficult when your family is not as supportive as you would like them to be. My husband does not really want me to have the surgery but he is going along with it because he knows its important to me. My Mother and brother are in the same camp as my hubby but there's no other way I feel I can lose weight successfully and keep it off. God knows I've tried. As far as telling people about my surgery my immediate family knows and I'll happily chat with the health professionals at the Lab or Dr's office about it. I'm not gonna shout it from the rooftops but if someone asks me how I've lost weight I will be honest. I think doing this takes a lot of courage. I have an extended family member who the rest of the family has speculated had bariatric surgery because of a drastic weight loss and she hasn't admitted to it. We all think its kinda silly but ultimately its her business who she tells. Although it seems pretty obvious to us what has happened. What people seem to not get is that this is a health issue not a vanity one. If we were not dangerously overweight we could not be eligible to get this surgery in the first place. Obesity is not a moral failing it is a disease; one perpetuated by a food industry that puts profits before people and the production of healthful food products. Good luck to you and hopefully you can educate your family as you move though this process. I know I am sure gonna try
  24. Hi Chris, I am set for sleeve surgery in early January 2016. too. I guess they haven't been thinking about the New Year yet! I sure have! Let me know if a 2016 space appears. I want to hear about it all. the good. the bad and the ugly. lol. That way I know I will be prepared for whatever happens.

    Protein Problems

Hi Mermaid I just started my Optifast pre-surgery diet and have been wondering about this, too. I have beeneating a mostly vegan diet before beginning this Sleeve adventure and have noticed some dairy and gluten sensitivities. Lots of the Protein based products seem to rely on both of these ingredients and I'm wondering if there are alternatives.Gonna be talking to my Surgery Center about it on Monday. You might have a similar problem, too. I've been bloated headachy and kinda miserable since starting this pre-op diet - hope it gets better. Good luck to you.
