Where to shop after you won't fit in plus size anymore?

I also like Francesca's. Sometimes I get nice high end pieces on eBay. :-) -
First Month: How many lbs did you lose?
psychprof replied to newjrny85's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Lbs lost isn't useful because we all weigh different amounts to start. We all have various hormonal fluctuations, will handle the IV fluids and bloating and a million other factors differently. I might lose 10 lbs my first month, which for me would be 4% of my body weight, while someone starting 100 lbs heavier than me might lose 15 lbs in the first month. But guess what--that's also 4% of his or her body weight. So who did better? No point in comparing. The heavier you are to start, the more weight you are likely to lose in the first month. But the heavier you are to start, the more you have to lose anyway. -
I didn't see it either, but playing devils advocate, maybe it was more like "good for you" ... For being able to get the weight down without surgery, because most people (like 90%) will never be able to do that... In other words, good for you that you didn't have to take the difficult route!

Sitting in the hospital crying
psychprof replied to serendipity1457's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Would it help to bring in another bariatric surgeon for a second opinion as to what's causing the problem or what could have caused the problem? Do you have an advocate? Many hospitals provide these for folks in your situation, but you may also try to get one that's not affiliated with the hospital where you had the procedure. This is someone who can speak up for you, keep careful records of what you're being told and what's going in (or being left out) of your medical records...I don't normally advocate for being litigious but if mistakes were made you may wish you had kept careful detailed records later. Just something to think about. -

Anthropologie, urban outfitters, and H &M might interest you. Also check out ModCloth (website). -
Waiting for insurance approval is getting to me
psychprof replied to Learningtolive's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It seems to me that most programs will appeal for you if you are denied. I wouldn't worry about it. The surgeon knows what he needs to file for you--they aren't going to waste time doing a lot of pre stuff if they know you'll be denied. PS I'd add a week due to the holidays, and if it comes back sooner, bonus -
Depends on your insurance. My hospital weighs me at each visit, including the nutritionists, psych eval, echoes and EKGs, the whole thing. They measure my height each time too. Then they send the whole file off to the insurance company, which may decide to average them or may decide to go with my lowest or may decide to go with the highest. Just depends on who is doing the case I guess. My program encouraged me to lose a little weight but no more than 10 lbs because that would put me under 40 BMI. Thankfully I have good insurance that doesn't require a waiting period, so I only have to wait three weeks (the minimum time my program requires to have two nutrition visits). If I had to do 6 mos of weight loss I probably wouldn't qualify. Then I'd just gain it all back anyway.

Gastric bypass over sleeve
psychprof replied to Good apple's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I chose the sleeve because I don't like the thought of having my digestive system re-routed, and the sleeve keeps everything in its original place. I also don't like the thought of having my stomach/other detached parts remaining dormant in my body, where they can still grow ulcers or cancer. A lot of people think the RNY is the way to go because it's the "gold standard," but my surgeon/team at Beth Israel in Boston made compelling arguments why that could soon change. There simply isn't enough/old enough data on the sleeve yet to compare to the RNY, but all indications are pointing to the sleeve overtaking as the new gold standard based on new data, so I'm told. People are generally having as good of results with the sleeve, without all the complications (e.g., dumping). Just my two cents. -
I'm interested in the patch as well. Did you move it around to different parts of your body?

To tell or not to tell? WLS
psychprof replied to RLH7882's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had originally planned to tell no one. I live alone and my family are all four states away, so it seemed possible to pull it off. However, my hospital will not let me move forward with the surgery without knowing that I have a support system in place, so they made me agree to at least tell someone in my family. I'm with many of the posters here--my health is nobody's business. My weight is nobody's business either. And people are snarky and nasty. So, no one needs to know except for whomever my hospital decides, I guess. -
I had my initial consultation today for the sleeve. Everything went well--at this program they do an initial group consult where we meet with an admin, nurse, and dietician. While the nurse and dietician are speaking, the admin is processing paperwork and scheduling all of the appointments (except the surgery). At the end she handed out all of our appointment times. I can see that everyone else has an entire list of appointments, but my sheet is blank save for a piece of paper stapled to it that says they cannot continue booking until they further screen for my "diagnosis." But they don't say what diagnosis. So, I stay after to find out more. Turns out that my PCP had given me a diagnosis of binge eating some time ago and now that it's in my medical record the hospital has to do all these additional tests and measures to make sure I am a candidate for the surgery. The problem is that we never talked about my supposed disorder, nor did he evaluate me in any way. Save for this one incident in my file, there are no other medical records regarding binge eating to be examined. When I saw him last month I mentioned that I am a stress eater (this is true) but had no idea saying that to him would result in a diagnosis of an eating disorder. Is this going to ruin my chances of being approved?

My Bariatric program at Beth Israel used to do clothing swaps for their WLS veterans, but they stopped because nobody ever needed the clothing that was being donated and they didn't have the clothing that newly transformed people needed because no one was obese anymore! Hehe... I have some experience with swaps in the "normal world" (maybe I should say average world?). I never could fit into anything that the other girls brought and no one ever picked up my stuff. They weren't all that fun. I do sell some of my things and buy some things on eBay.

Dump the band. Seriously though, my bariatric program isn't even doing them anymore -
Flying while sleeved!
psychprof replied to taylor2621's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I fly a lot. I'm not sleeved yet, but I did ask the surgeon about travel after WLS. He didn't mention either the bypass or the sleeve but did discuss challenges for people who are banded. Apparently the band can tighten considerably at 30,000 ft requiring many to make trips to the ER immediately upon landing. This can be more complicated if you have landed in an unfamiliar, remote location with less than stellar health care. That he didn't seem concerned about sleeve/bypass seemed good enough for me. Hope that helps a little! -
It was explained to me that past abuse would not disqualify one from the surgery but just help the team put together the best plan for support.
-
There's evidence in the literature that victims of abuse/trauma are at higher risk post-surgery for regain and other complications.

February 2016 sleevers?
psychprof replied to NYGirlxo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Right now it looks like February for me too -
What diets have you tried? What do you expect from this surgery? What does a normal day of eating look like? Do you binge? Do you graze? Have you ever been physically, sexually, or emotionally abused? How much do you drink? Are any of the members of your immediate family alcoholic? Are you now or have you ever used illicit drugs? Do you now or have you ever smoked? Who in your family knows of your decision to pursue WLS? Who lives in your household?

Looking for post op and Pre op friends
psychprof replied to healthyamy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It is very strange to post threats through your wife's account. It is not ok to prohibit your wife from talking to someone. That's abuse. Seek help. -
I guess I fail to see where the OP asked for anyone's opinion...

JEEZ. Someone is awfully insecure. I hope Amy is ok.
