Attn nurses and other with jobs that r demanding
LDNurse replied to patience9115's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I thought I could go back after 2 weeks--Dr said no way. I ended up with 4 weeks off--and I needed every bit of it. We lift a lot of weight too. So, I would listen to my Dr and take off 4 weeks...It helped with post op diet too. I work at night and used to have to eat to stay awake. I would have been weak and shaky on clear liquids trying to work. Good luck to you!!! -
Craziest Things People Have Said Coming From Under General Anesthesia...
LDNurse replied to kabeerah's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
After my upper GI they were wheeling me into recovery and i was singing at the top of my lungs "HOW MUCH IS THAT DOGGIE IN THE WINDOW!!!WEEEEEEEEEEEE" My husband said "Is she all right?" And whenI passed gas, I announced it to everybody "Oh my God, I farted. I farted again. Oh you think I'm gross don't you?" AS my husband tried to quiet me. After lap band surgery I said to the recovery nurse," Dorcus, I'm hurting." She looked at me kind of funny, and got me pain medicine. Then I said, "Dorcus, I need my glasses." When she got them for me, I noticed her name was Debbie. I said"I'm so sorry, I kept calling you Dorcus. Is there somebody here named Dorcus?" She laughed and said, "Honey, the secretary that checked you in this morning is named Dorcus." Well thank God i didn't make it up. -
Oh, I definately had that. I was at a theme park with my son, and I had to get off of the ride, because the bar wouldn't lock over my tummy. My son did the ride by himself, but I had to get off in front of everyone and walk back along the line. I'll never, ever forget that moment. I told my son that this summer we would go back and ride that ride 100 times if he wants to.

Scared about actual surgery
LDNurse replied to dogluvr's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my sugery 1/9/08. It was pretty much like everyone said. Checked in. weighed. To pre-op room. Into the gown. IV. And wait. And wait. Surgery was delayed by previous surgery. As If I wasn't nervous enough. I was an hour and a half behind schedule. Aesthesia came in and talked to me. Surgeon came in and talked to me and then anesthesia again. But this time he came in with a gift...VERSED. Hello...relaxation. Wheeled to the O.R.. Looking up at ceiling, I said, "Hey you have more lights than we do where I work. How many do you have?" They answered "2". I said, "Oh that's how many we have." And everyone laughed at me. And then, it seems like no time at all, and they were waking me up in recovery. When I woke up a had a sore throat and kept looking around for that cat they have that took a crap in my mouth. HA! My back hurt, so I told the nurse,"Dorcus, I'm hurting" She looked at me kind of funny and went and got some morphine. And I asked her for my glasses. Then I saw that her name was Debbie. I apollogized and asked if there was somebody named Dorcus? "Honey, that was the secretary that checked you in this morning". Well, at least I'm not crazy. That versed is some funny stuff. Make sure you ask for something if your anxious, it does help!! GOod Luck!!! -
Benson, I work in labor and delivery too. And even though I knew the answer, I still asked if I could wear my undies. Nope.

How bad is the pain from the surgery?
LDNurse replied to Startingover!'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I guess I'm just a big wimp. I thought I had a high pain tolerence--I had a vaginal delivery with no pain meds, but I was not really prepared for surgery. It was a totally different kind of pain. I rated it 6-7 out of 10. But the pain medicine helped. My doctor keeps all his pts over night--and I was so glad. HELLLLLO MORPHINE!! I also had liquid lortab at home and only took it for 1 1/2 days. It is worth it! -
Need some reassurance!
LDNurse replied to zetajenn5's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I woke up in the hospital--I was like What in the world have I done to myself? I'd never had surgery before, and honestly I wasn't prepared. But It will be a month on Wed. and I feel great. Have had more energy and all that. Just get through that first 2 weeks and you'll fell so much better. -
My body, my band, my BETRAYAL
LDNurse replied to MamaJava's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Krista, I'm in the same boat. I was banded 1/9/08 and have only lost 14 lbs. All my friends that have been banded had lost like 20-30 pounds by this time. I haven't lost any weight for 2 weeks. But it is that time of the month, and I always gain water weight. And I've read that when you start really working out that your muscles retain water. What I'm expecting to happen is to wake up and have lost a couple of pounds. That's just how my body works--plateau--drop--plateau--drop---etc. I bet that is what you'll do too. Don't get discouraged...we've all felt that way. It will work for you. -
A Tip for making the shots more comfortable: Pinch your skin in the area where your gonna give yourself the shot. Hold the pinch and put needle right in your pinched skin. You really won't feel the needle. A nurse in the hospital did this on my 2nd injection and I couldn't believe it! Good luck!

Do you tell your kids about having LBS?
LDNurse replied to Blund's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a 10 yr old son, and I definately told him. He went to the hospital with my husband and I. He's been very supportive and carries anything over 10 lbs for me. He needed to know, so he'd understand why Mommy didn't feel good, and why I'm not eating with the family. He also understands that it will be a lifestyle change for the whole family. We're ALL gonna start eating right. We should have been anyway. I don't want him to have all my bad habits. -

Small red blisters near post site - HELP!
LDNurse replied to Jeni's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi. I was banded on 1/9/08 and when i removed my dressing for the first time, I noticed I had developed a line of blisters at the top of my dressing. This is about 2 1/2 inches above my port incision. I thought that maybe I was having an allergic reaction to the tape. The blisters are now gone, but I still have a line across my abd where they were. At my two week post op, my doctor looked at it, and agreed that it could have been an allergy. If it dosen't start to get better, you should call your doctor.
