Totally normal! My stomach is not hungry but my brain is starving for the food! LOL I am hoping through this journey that I can reconcile the mental part of this. -

waking up after surgery
Swim Mom replied to Joanna240's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a great experience. Checked in at 7am and was home by 1pm (I live 20 minutes from the hospital). Both the catheter & breathing tube were put in and taken out while I was asleep. I never even knew they were there. 10 minutes after I woke up, I was up & walking to the bathroom. I did not need them to give me additional pain meds. There was anti-nausea drugs in my IV. Painwise, it just really felt as if I did too many sit-ups. About an hour before I left, I had to sip a small amount of Water to see if it stayed down & it did. The hospital staff, my doctor & PA were absolutely wonderful. They gave me a pillow for my stomach & autographed it with quotes of encouragement. I have had a total of 7 surgeries in my life, including one that was 4 weeks prior to my WLS. I would have to say that this was the best experience that I had out of all 7. -
Question for Bandsters... Are you hungry???
Swim Mom replied to BandyMama's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am definately mentally hungry for food, but physically I am not. I am one month post op & had my first fill a week ago. The mental is still a big issue. When I get to that point in the meal where I know that physically, I have had enough, but want "one more bite", I really feel as if I am at a crossroads. Sometimes I put the fork down & walk away and sometimes I go ahead and eat a few more bites. I am learning that taking a few more bites comes with reprocussions! -
Anyone having problems with constipation?
Swim Mom replied to aubrie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello - I was banded one month ago on 12/11/07 and before surgery I was also regular - at least once a day. Post op, I am lucky if it's twice a week. I have been taking fiber supplements for a week and started with the stool softeners today. Hopefully that will provide some relief. Thanks for the tips! -
Lap-band surgery Dec 31, 2007

Hi Brandi - I was banded in December also (12/11). The pain from the CO2 lasted 2 weeks with me, but from what my support group tells me, it varies. Make sure you get up and walk around, that might help dissipate the gas. 3 days after surgery they took out the small out of Fluid already in my band due to dehydration. To be honest, I was pretty much in a bad state due to the dehydration and still swollen from surgery, so it was very unconfortable and somewhat painful. I went back in on 1/3 to get filled and it was much, much better. It didn't hurt at all, and I have a low profile port. As far as the procedure goes, my doctor had me lie flat & put a hard pillow under my left side. He manipulated my belly & found the port. The needle stings at first, but it wasn't painful. He filled me up all the way and then sat me up (with the needle in) to drink Water. We made some adjustments for about 5 minutes until I could swallow confortably. And then it was done! Hope this helps - congrats on your weight loss! -
For me, the procedure was much simpler than I thought. I was banded just a month ago on 12/11/07. I had knee surgery the previous month, which was way more painful than getting the band. Make sure you get in plenty of water. If you feel too nauseated to drink, make sure you let your doctor know. 3 days after surgery I became to nauseated to drink water, 24 hours later I was being treated for dehydration. Good luck to you!
