HI there, I havent been on here for a while now, but its all good. I got my band done in March 08 just over two years now. I lost most of my weight 35 kgs in the first year and have kept it all off since my banding. I think its the best thing I have ever done, and love it as I know I will not let myself go back to how I was before. I am a bit like you that I have not told many people, as they judge you different and a lot of people are jealous of you. I have only just two of my family members last week, and still havent told my mum yet. As I did not want to be judged every timeI had to take a trip to the toilet to remvove the food that got stuck. Which is no fault of my own for eating the wrong foods. Over the past two years I have been back in twice to have my port hole loweedr into my stomach as it was sticking out everytime I was standing up. But it is great now. I go thru stages that one day I can eat what I like and the other day I cant, so I know I can handle this as I have good and bad days, depends on what I eat and who I am eating with. If I am stressed more, then nothing stays down. But I dont over eat also. The only thing I dont like like is that my hair is falling out heaps. The doc just recommends taking heaps of Vitamins, as he says its just your body adjusting. I would like it to stop, as I dont want to have to wear a wig. hehehehe. And now I have no boobs so I am looking into having them replaced, I dont want to be vain, but I like to have something there, now that I can wear a bikini in summer. My Aunty has also had the banding and she has lost 70 kgs and is still going, I am her support person as she can fall off the band wagon sometimes. She now has to have excess skin removed form her legs, stomach, arms and reduction in her boobs. we are going to KL to have all this done in July. So lets hope this wil be all the end of it. Good luck to you all, dont give up, use this band as a tool and dont think it will work for you if you dont use it correctly.

Hi all I was banded on March 30th 2008 by Tony Keirath, hes great, he has given me back my life, I feel great and confident now its not funny. I started at 95kgs and I am now at 67 kgs, I ony have two more kgs to go. But I am not to worried if I get there as I am pretty happy where I am now. let me know if anyone organises a get together some time soon. -
HI there, I have not been on here since my op was done back on 30th March. Back then the cost of the surger ywas about $1900 for Tony Kierath, after medicare and Medibank. He is really quiet but very nice. Once you see him it usually takes two weeks to get booked in for surgery. He does his ops on a Monday and Tuesday at Bethasda Hospital. Your fills will cost you around $60 after medicare have paid there part. Try to see him every month to get a fill, this way you will know how much you need.I have lost 27 kgs since march and have only really got another 3 - 5kgs to go if I want to, I do nt find it hard as I find it easier now as I cant eat all the junk food I used to eat, only sometimes I miss have a good burger, bt if i didnt have this done then I would stillbe eating all the wrong stuff. all the best with it:thumbup:

HI Jen Good to see you are finally home, and things are getting better for you. After hearing what had happened to you I did question myself as to weather I was doing the right thing. I was really worried about not making it thru the operation. However I got over that and went ahead anyway. Banded on 31st March, I am going ok. have lost 6kg and now I am at a stand still, can't seem to budge anymore. I do wish you all the best for your future recovery, I am sure with the will power you will get better and things will be back to normal soon. You may be a little slower in things that you do now, but remember you have to walk first befoer you can run. i am sure your arm will get better and you will speed typing very soon. Once again glad to see you back on here. I will always remember you, as you were banded on my birthday. keep up the good work.

HI all I had my first fill on Friday 18th April, 2 1/2 weeks after my op, it doesnt normally get done this early, however my doctor said he would do it as I have to drive in over an hour. the needle was fine, and I hate needles, so I thought I was really brave. i felt a little restriction after it, as I eat the wrong thing, and it hurt like hell. I have experienced the bringing back up thing, as I tried to have some Water afterwards to ease the pain and it just came straight back up. My port is still a littlel uncomfortable, great when I am laying down, but not when I am standing up. Seems to sick out a bit and is still a bit tender around this area. It is getting better when i sneeze, dosn't feel like its diving deep into my stomach as much now. I have lost just over 6 kgs in 3 weeks so I am happy with that, I haven't got into the excercise thing as of yet. But hopefully I will manage that soon. chow for now

HI everyone I am now banded and two days gone. At the moment I am just relaxing and trying to get used to moving a little slower than usaul. The day I left the hospital they did not give me any pain relief tablets, however they told me to just take Panadol or pandeine. Just as I walked out I ahd to go back in to ask for some tablets as I thought I would not make it he in a ggod state of mind. After taking the tablets on an empty somach I new they would not stay down, as I do not cope with no food and tablets. My food did not stay down after Breakfast as I think the anthestic made me a little sick. So trying to be sick and not hurt even more than I already was, was a little hard going. On the way home, I had to do a quick stop on the side of the road and bring up the tablets that I knew would not stay down. I am finding the best pain relief at the moment is the panadine dissovables. I have to take these every four hours. I had a better night sleep last night, managed to sleep on my side with a pillow restng underneath. I am hearig alot of wind moving around and sounds like I am really hungry when I am not. The foods I am taking at the moment is porridge for breakfast or puree fruit, lunch is Soups and Snacks are youghurt and dinner so far again soups. Other wise all is going well for me at the moment. :tt2:

Thanks for that info Mshansy I am not in America, I am locatedin Perh WA Over here they do things a bit different, I am not sure why. My doctor told me to be on blended food untils I see him i two weeks times. In the hospital after the op , they serve you Yoghurt or porridge for breakie, Soup for lunch and jelly or lite icream for dinner.

Thanks Kitty for the info The porridge I have is very running. My doctor basically told me to go on blended food until I see him next. I am finding the porridge good for me in the morning, sometimes I change it with yoghurt. However when I do have some Soup or liquid foods in an hour or so I am blowing up like a blow fish. When will this settle down?? Sometimes the breathng is still a little slow and very tight in my stomach also. I a located in Perth Wa

HI Nat and all others giving me support. I can't wait until next Monday its all down hill from now. My starting weight is 94kg, I want to get down to 60 kg, I went out for my final big meal yesterday with my husbnad and kids, as he does FIFO, I wont see him again now until the day after the op when he picks me up. I know I will be nervous and restless on Sunday night. Any suggestion on what to wear when I go home, Im thinking of loose fitting clothing???
-
HI Chickie, thanks for the support, You look amazing, I showed my husband your before and after pics, and he was so amazed at the difference. I hope I get my head around all this. And have just as much sucess as you have.:biggrin2:  :crying:

HI Luscious No I am not on Optifast, over here we do ot do that for some reason. Maybe as I am only 35 kg over weight I am not sure if I should have done it or not. I was not told to, Here in Aus we do othave t wait long before e go for the op, I could have gone 2 weeks after my first consult. But had to wait until my husband booked the time off.
-
Well ladies I have one week to go, I can't wait. My op is 31st March WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Yippee it finally going to happen
-
I have heel spur in my foot also, I used to work standing up all the time at my work. As the pain got too much i had a quater zone shot put in my hill before going on a holiday to Bali, as i needed to walk around alot with out any pain. That only lasted a few months. I now only ever wear shoes that have a bit of a solid heel on them, and I have never looked back, I do not have anymore pain in my heel. If I walk around the house with no shoes on or in thongs for long periods of time, then my foot starts aching again. My foot has been pain free now for 2 1/2 years now, and have taken a position where I dont stand up anymore. I do recommend trying it, I used to wear inserts in my shoes before and that only caused me more pain. My shoes only have a solid heel though, I think the foot has to be raised a little to take the pressure of the heel and put it back on the front part of the foot.

Thanks luscious , where are you having your surgery done? I am in Perth, Wesern Australia

Is there anyone else that is getting banded on the 31st Mach by Dr Tony Kierath?:rolleyes2:
-
I have been informed by my Aunty do not tell anyone, as a lot of perple treat her differently, as she eats different from other people that dont get invited for dinner a much anymore. My only concern is that I normally tell my mum every thing, and I know she will be judgement and blame her sister for stearing me in this direction. I just hope I wake from the operation and get to come back and see my two wonderful boys. My app is 26th Feb, I can't wait.
-
Oh my god I can't believe this has happened to Jen, I was wondering why she hasn't been on here. I just hope this was not caused from the surgery or the band, as it now makes me reconsider is it worth it??? I do not want to go thru something like that, and would not wish it on anyone. I just hope she has a good recovery and gets back to a healthy and normal life. Good luck Jen, Thinking of you.
