    Seeking Buddies 5'2" & Under

I'm 5 feet and just hit 189. I really want to set a lower goal weight but I'm scared of failing.

    Food allergies

Hi guys. This is not the first time I've tried to bump a thread about food allergies or celiac but I really am curious to speak with other sleepers/WLS patients who are in the same boat. I was diagnosed with celiac thanks to the upper endoscopy that was part of my pre-op requirements and a subsequent blood test as well. So I'm learning a gluten free lifestyle as well as the post WLS lifestyle. I think the two play nicely with each other. I also have a lifelong allergy to shellfish, tree nuts, and rice. I always ignored my rice allergy because it caused no symptoms that I knew of but now I am taking it seriously and discussing w/ my new BFF - my GI doc. Plus- no room for rice on my post sleeve diet at this stage anyway. I also have allergic skin reactions to watermelon and kiwi. Anyone else with similar issues? Sleevers not sleepers.....
  3. I had surgery on a Thursday morning and went home around 3 pm Friday. I was in my office on Tuesday and traveled for work at 2 and a half weeks post op.
  4. My surgeon cleared me for the pool at my 1 week post op visit and I have been happily getting aquatic exercise since!

    Magnesium Citrate Day

I had to do this the night before my surgery. It worked in about 30 minutes. Slept through the night, woke up with some light cramping and had another loose movement. Make sure to drink a ton of water.

    "Powerful Yogurt"

I like the skyr as well but haven't found a brand without super high sugar content. Anyone know?
  7. Back in the USA, 3 and a half weeks post op, stepped on the scale and looks like I dropped 5 lbs on my trip. That's 25 lbs since surgery. I set my expectations at 1.5-2 lb loss per week so it's going to be quite some time before I offset that average with this head start. Damn. Amazing decision, I feel like a million bucks.

Congratulations! I am happy for you. I am also glad you have realistic expectations. 1 to 2 lbs per week average really is about right and it all evens out in the end. Some lose faster and some slower but in the end it seems most of us get there as long as we remained focused.

Thanks! I thought it would take months to lose this poundage so I'll keep that foremost in my mind when the weight loss inevitably slows and evens out. That or I need to buy a new scale !

  8. The better department stores have personal shoppers: bergdorfs, neimans, nordstroms, saks etc. and they also do alterations in house.
  9. I still rely on protein drinks and I'm through pureed and onto soft food. If you can't have dairy try pureed or very well chewed fish. Soft cooked white fish is delicious and goes down easy for me as do canned tuna and salmon.

    2nd week post op

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one struggling with this phase, it sounds like you have it all together, I may try some of those things you're doing and see it works for me! I live in a foreign country so I understand! I guess I'm finding it hard because I'm just not hungry so I don't want to eat, but I know I need to but if I'm still full from the previous meal why force myself to eat?! The struggle is real Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I hear you but you do have to force yourself on the protein a bit. My doctor wants me getting at least 60-70 grams a day. That's why the shakes are so clutch. Honestly I grabbed a bunch of single packs for this trip last minute and thank god I did. I don't know how I would have hit my goals without them. I just checked and I only have 3 left for 4 more days and I had been relying on them 2x a day. So I'm going to need to force myself to eat like fish or something on a strict schedule over the next 4 days or I won't hit my goals. It's really hard though. Like this morning I had to leave for the airport around 6 am. I woke up at 5 and forced myself to choke down a half a Greek yogurt. I sooo didn't want it, I'm never hungry that early. But now I'm on a plane and won't be anywhere near food/protein until at least noon. I looked frantically in the airport for a protein shake but they didn't have them. So even the measly 7 grams of protein I got from the yogurt was a worthwhile battle because without it I'd be at 0. Actually I just remembered I threw my last babybel in my bag so I can eat that now. I don't think we're ever supposed to be "hungry" at this stage. I would happily just sip fuids at this point. If it helps you at all- I make my Protein Shakes with milk for added protein. They have milk in Germany!

    2nd week post op

I'm on soft food/purées and I have to agree- it is seriously a full time job to get this right at this stage. All the advice about planning and regimenting consumption to a schedule is spot on. For the past week I've been traveling in a foreign country and I've been so busy with work or sightseeing for the bigger part of the day that I've actually been forcing myself to wake up 2 hours earlier than I need to in order to start getting in fluids and Protein. So I wake up and down 8-16 oz of Water and a Protein shake. That takes me 60-90 minutes. Then I wait 30-45 minutes and have my 2 oz of yogurt or cottage cheese. While I'm out and about I have loads of water and a Powerade zero. I've been packing a yogurt and a piece of cheese. Then when I get home at night I have another protein shake and another piece of cheese. Wait 30- 45 minutes and finish a 16 oz water before bed. Almost exclusively dairy which is annoying. When I was home last week I was eating canned or cooked soft fish and sometimes eggs which made a nice difference. I'm heading to an all inclusive resort tomorrow for the rest of the week and I'm planning to get my 2 oz of soft protein rich food at least 4 times a day and break the dairy dependence.
  12. 3 weeks post op. Walking almost 9 miles a day in a foreign capital. Haven't tried the cuisine LOL. But loving it anyway :-)

9 miles!! That's amazing! Keep up the awesome work

  13. naruto rolls are amazing. I am looking forward to trying one when I am further along. That's when they wrap the fish in cucumber instead of rice and seaweed. So fresh and delicious.
  14. Raw fish is on my plan at the soft food stage and so is rice (in small amounts, after you get your Protein in.) I'm finding I'm eating such small amounts of protein that there's no room for any carbs after on my plan at this point in time. So I won't be touching rice personally. But rice is allowed on my plan and must be on others. They all vary.

    Water and smell issues

I had a very easy time with liquids at first. But now that I've moved on to puree and soft food I'm finding that it can be a little uncomfortable to drink water after consuming real food. The 30 minute wait is not quite long enough for me to take big sips, those have to wait to 1-2 hours after eating my 2 oz of food.
  16. Hi there, I was sleeved on 7/7 and also had no problem with liquids since day 1. I can actually chug Water like I did pre surgery. I try not to do that though, but every now and then I find myself taking big gulps when I'm walking outside in the heat or whatever. Since I've been on purees and soft foods I DO feel a nice restriction. My plan recommends no more than 2 oz of food at a time so I've carefully weighed out my food on a scale. I feel the restriction right at 2 oz usually or just before. Less so with something like Greek yogurt than with say a scrambled egg. It's pretty cool. I have a much easier time getting 2 oz of food down at Breakfast than I do later in the day as well. Later in the day I am often satisfied with a small spoonful or two of food and will have to end my day with a Protein shake to get my protein in the liquid way.
  17. I'm on pureed/soft foods. I'm finding it's a full time job to get enough protein from the small amounts of food I can eat so am still supplementing with at least 1-2 protein shakes a day. I've had scrambled eggs with and without cheese, canned salmon, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, hummus, other kinds of cheese, Greek yogurt, soft fish. 2 oz max at a time.
  18. Hey guys. I have a stupid question. Am I supposed to feel this good? I had surgery at around noon on Thursday 7/7. By 7:30 pm that night I was feeling great- I walked over a hundred laps around my unit and went home at 4 pm on Friday. Since then- no real issues. I've read about so many on this board. No constipation, no major fatigue, liquids are going down very easy, I don't even really have to sip and I'm getting over 60 grams of Protein (shakes) and at least 80 oz of fluids (mostly water) everyday. My urine is running clear and I'm not constipated. I'm sleeping better than I did pre-op and stopped taking pain meds yesterday. Yesterday and today I was out and about, shopping and helping out an elderly relative. I've been going for long walks in my neighborhood. This morning I competently handled some international business matters before 9 am. Tomorrow I'm planning to swing by my office to handle some business, walk around the city, get a facial and babysit my nephew. So this post is not a humblebrag. I'm seriously wondering- is something going to come smack in the face in a few days? Did anyone else feel totally fine after surgery? Is my perspective skewed from reading too many posts about complications?

    Odd, but good!, NSV

    Totally awesome!
  23. @@LisaMergs thank you! It is just a 5-6 hour flight and I have room to stretch out in first but will try to remember to do a couple of laps. My surgeon didn't blink when I mentioned it, but I'm a little worried about the altitude and the purée/soft food diet. I'll probably fall back on shakes to make sure I get that protein in. One of the world's great food capitals and I'll be on protein shakes....and I don't even feel bad about it!
