I got a wine shipment from one of my California vineyard clubs yesterday...I racked them in the basement and walked away. I KNOW I'm not ready for red wine yet Ooooh what did you get? I'm crazy for a good Napa Valley Cab. I'm not ready for wine either. White wine was my surgeons first suggestion but I haven't really had anything with sugar content since surgery so I've steered clear. It's too hot for red. A nice Sancerre though.... This is wine from Carmel Valley...I got 3 pinot noirs from Talbott. They're really more my husband's wine, I'm a huge fan of big, fat Zins and Cabs :-) My favorite wines of all time are the Zinfandels that Ridge produces. I've been having them shipped to me for 20 years, yum! Right now, I've only had some Oregon pinot gris, and small amounts. For some reason wine makes me a little nervous? Wine makes me nervous too. I think that's a good thing. I've always known that one small glass of incredibly good wine is satisfying enough but we've all had those nights where the bottles are flowing. I'm not looking to have one of those nights again post op for a lonnnnnng time. Plus I'm doing well and don't want to introduce the carbs/calories. But ask me again when I'm at an airport, my flight is delayed for 2 hours, and the bar is offering The Prisoner by the glass. Why do airport bars always have the best reds?!?! I'm a fan of the big fat ones too. Dark and chewy are how I like them. High fruit content. My favorite wine shop has started raving about the big Zins but I haven't tried any of them yet. You'll have to teach me about them when I'm ready! Until then it's the occasional petite glass of espolon and soda which I've somehow rendered guilt-free.

Clothing Sizes: What do they even mean anymore?!?!?

That's awesome @@OutsideMatchInside ! At size 12 you can start wearing a lot of the Italian designers. And Chanel. -
I don't think it's standard operating procedure for him. Maybe he just thought I was special. Or a lush. Imma' lush. For realz... Me too. A total wino pre-op. The euphemism I like to use is oenophile. I haven't visited my wine collection for almost 3 months at this point. The lush tendencies are on hold indefinitely....I'll see how that goes when I get to goal.

At my 1 week visit my surgery team told me I would be cleared for alcohol at 2 weeks post op. We discussed it at length- the different drink options, what kind of drinks I usually order. I pretty much exclusively stick to tequila and soda Water and they were fine with that- but stressed that I avoid stuff that's very caloric and sugary like margaritas, flavored alcohols etc. I was surprised by their approach but I trust my surgeon. And I appreciate that he trusts me to make my own good decisions. Since that talk, I had about a half of a Bloody Mary at 3 weeks post op, and a half a tequila and soda on 2 occasions. I'm 5 weeks out now. Each time I made sure I was getting all my Protein and upped the water intake for the day. The drinks hit me more than they have in the past, hence why I haven't finished any of them.

True that- it is a seriously bad a s s NSV

Re: shoes. My job involves lots of walking and running through airports, long hallways, marble floors etc etc and the women are pretty much expected to wear heels. I don't always, because they've been harder to wear the more I weigh but one trick I learned is to just not spare a cent when it comes to footwear. You cannot beat an exquisitely crafted European shoe for comfort and sturdiness. So what I like to do is check out high end comfort show stores. Washington, DC has one of the best stores I've found- it's called Comfort One and they also have an online store. Comfort shoe stores like Comfort One or Tip Top, Eneslow or Harry's in NYC specialize in problem feet- they have a solution for literally any foot. You can give them a call and explain your needs and order some pairs to try on at home. The best thing about the high end comfort shoes is that they don't all LOOK like orthopedics. I look through their limited selection of heels (they don't carry a ton because heels DO NOT equal comfort) but they have a ton of gorgeous flat shoes in all varieties. And in terms of budget, these shoes are so well made that they last forever. I just have a good cobbler tune them up for the season and I'm good to go.

I've never seen them either but they look like Ryvita crisps.

I'm 5 weeks as well. I had most of a tequila and soda the other night and felt it good. I guess we all react differently.

I feel like this chart is being fake nice to me. -
Shit- I could have sworn bars usually changes. Did it not? Is it bar ?

Although it is funny when the words become hyperlinks totally out of context. Like if I'm talking about going and getting shithoused at bars.

This board is the f u c k I n g worst in that way, and so many others. And, I agree I was just reading that old thread too and your pictures are insanely inspirational.

One month out expectations
higher replied to cogal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hit the 5 week mark today. I'm down 28 lbs from surgery, which is way way more than I was expecting. I haven't had my 1 month follow up yet because I've been busy but am going next week. I was allowed to have well chewed meat by week 3 and at week 4 my doctor told me to introduce regular foods - but I've been filling up on Protein so I haven't really had anything new and different. I have to ask him what he actually means by that. If he means tougher meats like steak, then I already tried that and am all good. Most days I am around 7-800 calories, although one day when I ate refried Beans w/ cheese and sour cream I was over 1,000 which surprised me. My biggest concern at this point is that I'm eating too much cheese. I'm too lazy/busy to cook so unless I am in a restaurant or I order prepared food I'm not eating meat. I'm getting my protein from dairy. I'm interested to see what my cholesterol is at now. -
When Did People Notice and Driver's License
higher replied to IveGotThePower's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'm so short that even a little weight gain/loss is very noticeable so my friends and family have all commented on it (they don't know I had WLS.) Unfortunately my driver's license photo is from 10 years ago when I was 21 and under my current goal weight......LOL -
Hi there. Starting from puberty I always had very regular 28 day cycles. But in the last 2-3 years as I steadily gained weight I began having irregular periods (missed periods, very very long heavy periods etc) and then I suffered from amenorrhea for almost a year. No PCOS or hormonal irregularities. Two weeks after surgery I had my first normal cycle in a year, it was like a miracle. It was also a gentle period - my previous irregular periods were very very heavy and crampy. The amenorrhea was one of my main reasons for having WLS. I'm eager to freeze my eggs and I needed my cycles to normalize in order to do that. I'm hopeful that my next period will come 28 days after the last.

I saw a striking cater waiter at a visiting ballet company reception recently who had a closely shaved head of dark hair but electric blue eyebrows. For some reason, I was expecting something more like that! -
Not a dolt and the ill-feeling wasn't overblown—a follow-up:
higher replied to fatgirlsvelte's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm sorry that happened but it is heart warming to hear other people spoke up on the matter. Bias against women's health issues in medicine and research is well documented and starting to get some more attention nationwide. It's sad that things have been this way for so long, and I'm not holding my breath but do hope we start to see more positive changes. -
Long term overseas travel 4 months post op
higher replied to Nikkinee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi @@Nikkinee - wow! What an amazing couple of years you have planned. I am not a WLS vet, I'm just a month post-op but I'm a world traveler myself and having been to most of those locales I can tell you I can't wait to go back post-op and *really* experience them properly. I missed out on so much by being too sluggish and overweight. I've also spent a significant amount of time in various Mexican regions- don't worry about Mexico! Yeah, tortillas abound but the fruits and vegetables are SO SO fresh and they prepare world class Proteins. You'll never miss out on spectacular flavor. I was just in DF a couple of weeks ago and some street vendors told me it's trendy for chilangos to order taco fillings to go with a fork- no tortilla! So that's what I did and it was DELICIOUS. Keep us posted on your travels! You'll do great. -
