    Exhaustion

I'm at 7 weeks out and no exhaustion issues. My only thought is I eat closer to 800 calories a day (sometimes as many as 1000.) So maybe @@Inner Surfer Girl is on to something?

How Has Your Food Budget Changed?

Today was the first day I had to buy lunch at work. I had to get out super early this AM and forgot to pack my lunch. I walked 8 blocks round trip to the organic grocery store and paid $3.79 for 3 oz of freshly roasted herbed turkey breast. Pre-op I regularly ordered in lunch often spending as much as $25 to have sushi, sandwiches, Soups, salads etc delivered to my office. With a side of chips. And maybe a brownie. Seems to me from this thread that people with families to feed are spending MORE because they have to supplement their family food budget with WLS friendly food. But us single folk who fend for ourselves are seeing the savings.

    I have a date

I've thought about that. Even if I never hear from him after tomorrow, chatting with him has been fun and a nice little ego boost. Yess - and now you get to ride that ego boost onto more dates with more guys! Run with it.

    What's on your plate?

I'm 7 weeks out as well. This is my usual routine if I don't eat out: Breakfast: 1 fage greek yogurt or a Protein shake made w/ fairlife milk Mid morning snack: a small piece of cheese Lunch: 2-3 oz of grilled chicken breast or more cheese Afternoon snack: usually another small piece of cheese If I have more chicken I'll have another 2 oz or so Dinner: often 2-3 slices of boars head turkey rolled up with cheese When I eat out, which is at least 3-4x a week I stick with protein. eggs for Breakfast, sometimes an omelet with turkey bacon baked into the eggs (and cheese), grilled octopus, salmon or tuna, sometimes lamb for lunch and dinner. If I need a late night treat I have a sugar free popsicle...or a piece of cheese.

    Veggies Anyone?

I'm 7 weeks out and have started to incorporate veggies both cooked and raw with increasing regularity. It's important to me to eat vegetables. I've found I'm able to get all my protein in via food and have plenty of room left for veggies. I've had raw kale and spinach as well as grilled squash, tomatoes and eggplant. So good.

    NSV shout outs

7 weeks post op and they keep coming. I visited a friend who lives in a 5th floor walkup for the first time since surgery. Used to end up panting and wheezing by the time I got up there, red in the face etc. This time I went bounding up the stairs, dancing the whole way up. He couldn't believe it. I haven't used my asthma inhaler since surgery.

Clothing Sizes: What do they even mean anymore?!?!?

Sizes are THE WORST. I've been fitting into some 12s from some brands and some stuff I had at home. I ordered this one dress for a wedding I have next month in a 12 and a 14 to try at home and I couldn't get the 14 past my boobs haha. Barely got it over my head. 2 other dresses (from a different brand) came in the same package in size 14 and I was drowning in them. Back they all go. Basically, nothing looks good unless it's fitted but I don't want to spend a ton on new clothes while I'm losing. Plus, stuff that's fitted now hopefully won't be fitted in a few months. I'm gonna wear all my too big clothes for a few more weeks and reevaluate. I just feel like loose clothes don't highlight the weight loss and all around look kind of sloppy. It's a struggle.

From fat and firm to fit and floppy.

How do you pee in all that? Not that I am dealing with tons of loose skin yet but I do have a lot of experience with shapewear - they make similar "vests" like these without the extended thigh coverage so you can just pull the panties to the side like you would with a one piece bathing suit when you need to pee, or, you know, have an inappropriate quickie.

I agree, cheese IS a reason to live. Chicken is pretty high in protein if you are looking for a good source, but it's not as nice as cheese ;-)

    How do you look normal?

So true. If you are like me and you live in a big city, hang out with lots of other young professionals everryonnnnnne is in the midst of some kind of a food thing. I can be like "Oh, I'm on a shellfish and dragonfruit cleanse, I heard Gwyneth does it" and literally no one would blink.

    How do you look normal?

The only person who really pays attention to what I'm eating is my mom. I eat at restaurants 4-5 times a week socially and no one has noticed. Like today for a work lunch, I ordered an octopus entree that came with about 5 small pieces of octopus, a piece of bread slathered in hummus and a side arugula salad. No one questions when you don't eat bread - plenty of people push aside the bread these days. I ate all the octopus and picked at the arugula. I eat so slow that by the time I was done the two men I was with had already polished off their half sandwiches and Soups and boom there was the waitress to take our plates away. I think once or twice I've said something like "I don't want to eat anything too rich because I'm busy later" or "I had a big lunch so I'm not that hungry" but probably more out of my own self-consciousness than any external prompting. At 3 weeks out I was on a trip with friends and ate 3 meals a day with them - seriously no one noticed. They just thought I was dieting, which everyone does sometimes.

From fat and firm to fit and floppy.

Whether in a pool, a lake or the sea, that always made me so self-conscious and humiliated. Sadly, I think I felt that way even at 160 or 170, a great, big apple. "Cheap" in terms of quality or in floozy terms? I'm really not sure which you mean. Oh, I am solely referring to quality. I live for floozy.

@@OutsideMatchInside thank you! I will try the body by victoria. I have never heard of Soma - do they sell that brand at department stores? They do have some poor quality bras, but if you dig a little deeper, they have some super soft push up bras that give good coverage and a lot of support. When I get home, I will look for the style name for you. thanks!!!!

@@jenn1 thanks! the fig leaves one is worth trying I think! So far I ordered these, but I'm skeptical as most of the straps are sooo thick and the backs come so high. But I guess that's the only choice when you are trying to squish in the loose parts: I really loved the color and style of these two but they only have size 24. Size 24 ladies check them out!! They're beautiful.

Thanks for the post. I am looking forward to loose skin being a problem at this point. Way preferable to fat for me. Which Victoria's Secret bra do you buy? I have never shopped there because it always felt cheap to me but someone gave me a gift certificate and I do need new bras.
  22. How mortifying. I will NEVER comment about my kids' weight to them like that. They already know they have weight issues. What good does constantly reminding them about do except make them feel like sh*t? It wasn't mortifying, because we were alone, and also because my weight was a regular topic. At this point, I was more than used to it. What good did it do? Well, as I said it's what got me to look into surgery which I had never considered before. And although I'm only 6 weeks out I'm very happy with my decision to have surgery. I think parents who are/were overweight themselves are in a BETTER position to discuss obesity with their children than parents like my mom who is thin. This is because they understand the complex web of issues that are the cause of obesity in a way that others can't. Maybe there's a tactful way to broach the subject. Just offering a different perspective than most of the other comments here. Is my mom a total b about my weight? Sure. Is she incapable of speaking to me about it in a respectful, supportive, caring way? Probably. But I've spent enough time soul searching alone and in therapy to understand that she has her own issues that come from her own struggles and demons and that's why she speaks that way. So I forgive her.
  23. Only 6 weeks out but I totally lost weight in my feet. Most of my shoes are too big on me now. I've had to get inserts for many of my nicer shoes and I think I went from a 7 to a 6-61/2.
