Has anyone done any sort of detoxes post op? I am 14 months post op and have done detox cleanses in the past before having had surgery. , but hadn't done one post-op. A friend of mine who has not had surgery is currently doing one that I was thinking of trying. While I don't think medically there should be an issue, just thought I'd see if anyone had done one post op and how it compared to detoxes you may have done pre-op. TIA

I must have accidentally turned my notifications off, I had no idea you guys had replied lol I have several friends who swear by the Nature Made 7 Day Detox cleanse. It's supposed to be all nature and good for your digestive system, skin, etc I used to do various ones every year , but I also ate a lot more junk food then as well.

I have several of the Vassarette brand and Fruit of the Loom underwire Tshirt bras from my local Walmart that I use for my everyday economical bras. I lost a lot of volume post wls and they keep the girls up and perky and the underwire on both are comfortable for long 10-12 hr days: https://www.walmart.com/ip/VANITY-FAIR-BRANDS-BRA/39422521 https://www.walmart.com/ip/WMR-FT487-2-PACK-T-SHIRT-BRA/39404796 I have found the sizing to be inconsistent between brands on cheaper bras, so definitely go to your local Walmart and try them on.

Anyone 5'3-ish and HW around 230?
losergrl75 replied to SunshineUnicorn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First pic is me the day I started my 2 week preop diet at around 240. Second pic is my 1 year surgiversary (1/14/17) at 145. Third pic is me walking a 10K at either 3 or 4 months post op. Last pic is me on vacation at 6 months out wearing a bikini for the first time in about 20 years! I think I was ~160. Sent from my XT1565 using the BariatricPal App -

How will I know I'm advancing too quickly?
losergrl75 replied to TheRevisionedVagabond's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Depends, some feel nausea, some vomit, some people feel clammy or flush and some just feel pain. I tried grilled shrimp at about 8 weeks out and as soon as the first bite hit my sleeve, I knew it was all bad lol. It felt like a lead ball just sitting there, uncomfortably. I feel the boost from coffee now and never felt it preop, I think it's because this is the only caffeine I get now. Before, I also drank soda all day and ate lots of chocolate. Sent from my XT1565 using the BariatricPal App

You'll get responses all over the place on this one because everyone has different post op plans. My plan allowed decaf during the first 6 weeks and the decaf was because it can be a diuretic, so they wanted to make sure I didn't become dehydrated. After 6 weeks, I was released to drink regular coffee. Most days, I brew my coffee at home and add 2 tbsp of a sugar free, flavored liquid creamer and a pack of Splenda. Twice a week, I allow myself a nonfat latte with sugar free flavored syrup from either Starbucks or a local coffee shop. The nonfat milk makes it a little higher in calories and carbs but it also contains protein. My NUT knows and was fine with it as long as I was tracking it and making sure to stay under my daily calories, carbs etc. These were also the only other liquid calories I consumed because I prefer to drink plain Water. Also worth noting, I had hiatal hernia repair during surgery and have had no problem with acid reflux since as that is another concern with coffee. Sent from my XT1565 using the BariatricPal App

How will I know I'm advancing too quickly?
losergrl75 replied to TheRevisionedVagabond's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had very minimal swelling, so I did not feel any sort of restriction or discomfort during the early stages since those foods are very easy on the sleeve. It wasn't until I was released to all foods and tried a dense Protein that I felt the restriction everyone else talks about. Because of this, I religiously measured everything I ate ( and for the most part, still do at 1yr out). That way I knew I was eating my proper portion size and it didn't matter that I didn't "feel full" , I knew I was full because that was the capacity for my sleeve. Wanting anything beyond that is my brain, not my body. This is when I worked with my nutritionist to understand that I never really knew what full was preop. I knew what overfull was---discomfort. Any time you are eating until you feel discomfort, you're eating too much. One of the benefits of this surgery, for me at least, is knowing that I'm not really hungry and it's all in my brain. As long as I eat to plan, my body is full, anything else is brain. Sent from my XT1565 using the BariatricPal App -
I really like the Danskin line at Walmart, they are cute but affordable. I have this one in black, white and blue. It has some padding to lift up the girls ( since I lost so much volume in them) and it clasps in the back just like a regular bra so you can adjust the fit up or down.

Two years out - Zero Pounds lost, no restrictions
losergrl75 replied to ab123.'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm curious, when you say you have no restriction--are you saying you can eat the same volume of food you ate pre-op? Same volume of foods such as dense protein etc and not slider foods? Or when you say no restriction are you saying you do not have a sensation of fullness or saiety? -
Will eating ever feel close to normal again?
losergrl75 replied to Sheran4eva's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I actually had to learn what full felt like because I always ate until stuffed. It was weird to realize full shouldn't feel uncomfortable. I measured everything for the first 6 months ( I still measure most of the time now) just teaching myself what a true portion size is. In the beginning, I struggled with eating one bite too many when out and I had to eyeball. Now I've gotten pretty good at it. Sent from my XT1565 using BariatricPal mobile app -
My surgeon never real set a "goal weight" he just told me what is normal BMI and gave anecdotal information as to what he usually sees most patients lose in the first year. With that being said, when I told him what I had set my personal goal weight at ( which is still technically overweight according to BMI) he conceded that most people are not in what is considered an normal BMI range anyway and that most patients will have their co-morbidities improved if not completed resolved just by getting into the middle of the overweight BMI range. And he was dead on, all of my co-morbid conditions were resolved once I hit about mid-way into the overweight BMI range. When I first had surgery I set my goal weight as 165 ( I'm 5'2") because at the time it seemed like such a huge amount of weight to loose. Once I saw how quickly I was going to hit that initial goal, I adjusted it to 150 and finally settled around 145 which put my BMI at 26 which is on the lower end of the overweight BMI. However, I have maintained at this weight since around the 9 or 10 month mark without any issues doing so ( I fluctuate between 142 to 147). I talked about it with my nutritionist and I did not want to set myself up on a lower goal weight and then constantly struggle to maintain. I have no issues staying at around 1300 calories a day at this weight ( this is my BMR) and bump it up a little on heavy work out days. And for nothing more than pure vanity, I lost most of my boobs and butt and I wanted to preserve just a little bit of it . 125 would have taken the little bit I have left with it lol

Will eating ever feel close to normal again?
losergrl75 replied to Sheran4eva's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 1 year post op and it does get normal --or as normal as eating about 8oz of food and making sure it's lean protein/low carb can be. I go out to eat all the time with my husband, co-workers, friends etc. I switched jobs about 8 or 9 months post op, so most of my new coworkers have no idea I had surgery. They just see me as someone who eats clean and eats small portions. I say that to say, my eating habits seem perfectly normal to them. I think it became habit and normal to me around the 5 or 6 month mark---where I got to the place of knowing my body and knowing how many bites would be 1 bite too many before I took it. And knowing what foods agreed with my sleeve and what foods make me uncomfortable. Have faith, our new way of eating soon becomes our new normal! -

Thanks so much! You're very welcome. That's why I put up the pic with my hair in case someone had a similar texture to mine. Sent from my XT1565 using the BariatricPal App I'm half white and black too. Hair just like that, if I went natural. Lol. I can't stand to comb it out all the time, thus I relax. But I suspect during the "hair loss phase" I probably shouldn't. Lol. Hoping I won't lose too much if any anyway. Great job on the weight loss. You look great! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Thanks so much! I think about relaxing again every wash and deep condition day grrrrr lol Good luck on your journey! I'm 41 and 1 yr post op. I'm 5'2" and was 242 when I started my 2 week preop diet, 225 day of surgery. I met my personal goal of 145 around the 9 or 10 month mark. While I'm still technically overweight, all my health issues have resolved and I like the way I look/feel in clothes. I have very minimal sagging skin on my thighs and arms (batwings). I thankfully do not have wrinkles or sunken in cheeks. I actually look way younger post op. When I was researching preop, it seemed like those who looked the healthiest post op either ran or cycled. I kept that in mind and started walking the indoor track at 2 weeks out, doing combo walk/jog at 4 weeks and spin class at 6 weeks. I also do resistance occasionally. On the subject of hair, I'm mixed (half black half white) and have thick, curly hair. I went natural and stopped relaxing several years ago. I did have some thinning (mostly my edges) months 3-7, but it isn't noticeable to anyone except me and my stylist. Now that it's growing again, like @@JamieLogical mentioned, you can see the fine new growth in my edges so I have to use edge control when I pull it back. The photo I'm attaching is the day I started my preop diet and on my 1 yr surgiversary last week. And the other is just a face shot, so you can see my edges. Ladies, what do you consider your ideal dress size ?
losergrl75 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am 1 year post op. Started out a size 20 and my sizing is all over the place. Anywhere between a 6 to 10. I am in love with Ralph Lauren right now, due to their vanity sizing I wear a 6 in that brand. Most others I wear an 8. Brands like Forever 21, Charlotte Russe, etc which are geared toward a younger demographic (I'm 42), I wear a 10 or a L. Sent from my XT1565 using the BariatricPal App -

I'm currently obsessed with reading the Mexico travel forums on TripAdvisor. My hubby and I are going there for vacation on Monday. We've stayed at this resort before but I'm still obsessed with checking for new reviews and photos daily. Reading all the Q&As and every single post on the forum.Drives my hubby crazy because he is a go with the flow person on vacation. I, on the other hand, have to try and plan out everything. I think I have FOMO. Sent from my XT1565 using the BariatricPal App

I'm 10 months out and haven't had any hair loss. I feel like it's a little thinner, but not noticeably so. I'm also natural (but I color my hair). I do wear my hair in a silk press a lot , so I held out in that for a couple of months immediately post op just because I didn't want to put any added stress on my hair. A lot of folks swear by Biotin but I already struggle with facial hair due to PCOS and didn't want to risk making it worse when it's finally getting better! losergrl75 replied to Candygyrl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I swear you and I were separated at birth girl! Lol. I know exactly what you mean. I know that I have read that surgery resets your metabolism, so I am curious if this is why it also changes the way we have lost weight vs how we have lost it in the past. I have yoyo dieted for years and as I was losing weight and hitting certain goals--my body and how my weight is distributed is way tinier than it has been in the past. I am currently bouncing back and forth between 145-147 and I am in some 6's mostly 8's. In the past , I would have been struggling to get a size 10 over my thighs just to wear a belt around my waist to compensate. My legs/thighs are skinny and I have never had skinny legs , even when I was young and naturally skinny. I'm definitely not complaining, it's nice to actually be able to wear clothes off the rack without having them taken in because I had to buy a size up to compensate my butt and thighs. I did end up stopping my weight loss phase and moving to maintenance at a little bit higher weight because I was smaller at this weight than I had anticipated. I guess it's a good problem for us to have lol I wear slight control top boy short style underwear just because I feel like they push my booty up a little bit. I am going on vacation soon where I will be wearing some halter maxi dresses and body con dresses and I plan on ordering some of those butt enhancing underwear that have the butt out ( like the infamous Prince pants). My girlfriend ordered some off Ebay and they really lifted her butt up and made it fuller! And they come down on the thighs to hold that all in nice and tight too. -
