  1. I'm considering a sleeve on my doctors recommendation. I'm 6'4", about 320. I carry all of it in my chest and midsection. Have joint pain, apnea, mild hypertension, etc. I see the surgery as a way to reset my body, my metabolism, my eating habits, mane my relationship with food. I don't exercise right now because it hurts, and I feel self conscious doing it in public. I do strenuous work when i need to, but no way in Hell I'm going for a jog... What worries me is, is if go ahead with surgery and hit my goal of +/- 205 and start running again, or cycling, or whatever: will I be able to take in enough calories to be strong? I don't want to get the surgery and be tired all the time or unable to have an active lifestyle because I have no energy. Both my kids are college athletes, and the sheer number of calories per day they consume is ridiculous. I'm not thinking I'll ever have that level of activity, but the question remains. Thanks for any input! A
  2. Awesome. That's what I was wondering. Were you a runner before, or is it something you've taken up since losing weight? And if you don't mind my asking, how much had you lost before you started running, and did you notice your weight loss increase, decrease, or stay about the same after starting to exercise?

    Coffee?

No coffee would literally be a deal-killer for me! Not only my life, but part of my livelihood.

11 months out. Just ran my 4th 10K!

Hey Bob B-how tall are you?
  5. I'm pre-sleeve, but I can tell you that when I hit goal, I'm buying another sportbike. Had a Yamaha FJ-1200 that served me well for many years and many pounds gained, but it burned up in a barn fire a couple years ago. I've looked halfheartedly at replacements, but I know that at my current size, I look pretty ridiculous on anything really sporty. I rode a friend's Ducati 996 awhile back, and I think half the bike disappeared up my ass-crack...
  6. Funny-I found myself thinking, 'that's about 10 months out!' No...it's a little over 6... Where does the time go?
  7. My son is a college middle-distance runner (4:03 miler), and he's been on CPAP since he was 13... Not an extra pound on that kid. Sometimes, it is what it is...

    Losing trust in my husband

It sounds like everything is resolved, but just to reiterate... Us guys deal with stress and worry a lot differently than you girls. We tend to bottle stuff up and push it down inside, letting it manifest through drinking, building awesome stuff, and feats of strength. When we absolutely can't cope with stuff alone, we usually go to the people a ) we trust the most, and b ) who we don't worry about looking vulnerable in front of. I'm sure you fall into category (a) for him, but in our traditional role as husbands, we really don't want to let on that we have...feelings...and fears...and that we worry. You have every right to be pissed, and he knows that, too. But I'll give you dollars to donuts that his intent wasn't to disappoint you. Best wishes and good vibes for your surgery.

    NOT HAPPY

Stress fractures are pretty common, even with competitive runners. One rule of thumb is to increase mileage no more than 10% per week.
  11. Hi All- Just in the early exploration stages right now, and as you can see from my username, I'm a coffee person. I want to know what kind of experiences VSG'ers have had with coffee after the procedure. I'm in the coffee business, so not drinking it is out of the question. I generally drink 3-4 120z cups a day. Usually 2 of them black, and 2 with half/half. I really don't drink milk drinks like lattes, mochas, etc. I kinda HAVE to drink it for tasting and roast quality control.. Thanks in advance, J.
  12. I just joined this forum a few minutes ago, and this was literally the first thread I clicked on. I sometimes read things like this and say a little silent prayer as I'm scrolling, but this was the first time I actually stopped, shut my eyes, and prayed for someone I don't know. Wishing you strength and focus, your son peace and resolve, and his doctors wisdom and guidance. Jeff
